Hi Grace,
It's good to see another Chaney fan out there. ;) I've loved that costume for
years, and every time I watch the movie I want to make it. I might wear it for
Halloween if I get it done it time, but that is doubtful. I really want to
finish it by December 6 though. I've been working on "The Jewel Song" (Ah! Je
ris de me voir) from Faust for quiet a while, and near the end of the semester I
will be singing it for a recital here at school. So I would love to have the
dress to perform the song in. I'm looking for a different pattern now, but if I
can't find one I'll try to make the two I have work. I know one thing for sure,
I'm definitely doing a trial run of the dress with cheap fabric before I make
the real thing. I'll let you know when I know more. More pictures are being

Just a little update. I just added several more pictures to my album
for this dress. The stills galleries on the ultimate edition DVD have
so many great pictures. I also posted on a general costume group on
Live Journal and already have a reply. Someone there suggested S4488
http://www.simplicity.com/assets/4488/4488.jpg or a similar pattern. I
will still probably use my McCall's pattern for the sleeves though. I
guess I'll be going pattern shopping soon. :)

Hi Heather,
I already sent you a reply, but I just thought I'd try to clear up any
confusion there might be here. Thanks for the help. Simplicity 4479 is a
beautiful pattern, and I already have it in my stash. But it's not a pattern I
would consider using for this dress. It would be great for the "Think of me"
dress or the "Masquerade" dress from Andrew Lloyd Webber's 2004 movie, but I am
not making a 19th century dress. I am looking for a pattern to make Christine's
dress from the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera. She wears this dress when
singing the part of Marguerite in the opera Faust (as well as in many of her
dressing room scenes and the final scene in the house on the lake). If anyone
knows of a good medieval pattern with a gathered skirt please let me know. I
would be very grateful. For now I'll keep looking.

P.S. I'm posting some more shots from the DVD's still gallery in my folder.

Oic. Guess I can get away with using the similar drape as seen in

rite?

Maybe taffeta?
Ya, I was thinking of Taffeta but I think I might have a problem
affording an actual Silk Taffeta; not even sure if I can find it
here in Singapore as the ones I see are mostly 2-Tones; Silk or
Polyester. :-P
Any other fabric that could be used for it?
So maybe this cloak does take after the type of fabric used for the
Musical one which I see might had been a 2-Tone Silk Taffeta, except
for the absent of the Hood?
Thanks! ^__^

Our group lives!
As for the back of the Wishing dress, I don't think we have any
pictures of it. These are the closest:
http://www.freewebs.com/kristinamy/christine_cemetary3.jpghttp://www.freewebs.com/kristinamy/christine_cemetary.jpg
It looks like the back is draped sort of like this pattern:
http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/catalog/290.html
I don't know if the back has a bustle because I haven't seen the
profile of the dress and the previous pictures were from the ebay
sale, so supports might be removed. I think that this dress is, for
some reason, one piece. At least that's what it looks like. And the
cloak is some sort of very light, irridescent fabric. Maybe taffeta?
I haven't studied the Giry Masquerade costume but it's probably boned
and lined with a stiff lining.

Hiya! ^__^
Am new here and my name is Fatimah. A few months back, I suddenly
got attracted to some of the outfits seen in the Movie and Musical
Versions of The Phantom Of The Opera. :-P
For now, my eyes is upon Movie Christine's "Wishing You Were Somehow
Here Again" Gown and Musicial Madame Giry's Outfit (with the
Masquerade Cape).
For the Movie Christine's "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again"
Gown, can someone offer some hints on how the back of the Gown
looked like? I had been to a few Research Webpages on it but haven't
seen much info about its back or actual design. And how about the
Cloak; what type of Silk it had been used?
Has anyone successfully made it before?
As for the Musical Madame Giry's Outfit, has anyone done this outfit
before or seen the original in close up? Any infos on it?
I can see the Outfit being Princess Cut, the cutting of the collar
and how stiff the Blouse is but wonder what kind of material can be
used for it and whether it's stiffen with interfacing/bukram(sp?) or
boned. Any detail photo of it available online?
Thanks! ^__^

Here is a great link for any of the stage costumes
http://www.geocities.com/amintacostume/versions
Also www.phantomess.com has a great forum where the stage costumes are
disscussed. Also if that is your costume in the new photos for this group,
great job on the movie aminta costume.

from Wicked, but after that I'm planning on attempting the Aminta

I'm also planning on making the dressing gown from the stage version

Hi everyone,
Yes it's been a looooooooong time and very quiet around here. Sorry about
that, on my end. I was VERY sick for quite a few months, got better, was
dealing with making an audition CD, got sick again.
I haven't done any sewing because of being sick either :( On the other hand,
if anyone wants to hear me sing, e-mail me and I'll send an .mp3 of one of
my songs!
Hope everyone is doing well,
Sarah

Then there is also http://www.freewebs.com/kristinamy/ , which I
heartily recommend.

HI all, it has been so quiet around here lately, how is everyone
doing???
Well I am great, I just bought these gloves on ebay that are perfect
for christine's masquerade gown. They look almost identical to the
ones from the movie. Now I need to make myself this dress :-)
