MEET "Striperella," the most scantily clad superheroine ever dreamed up for
television.
She's a stripper by night and a power-packed defender of justice, well, a little
later at night.
She's also the first superhero who can't resist a good sale on lingerie, even
when the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
"I thought: 'Wouldn't it be fun to have a superheroine who's really an exotic
dancer in a gentleman's club?' " says creator Stan Lee, the legendary comic book
writer who co-created Spider-Man in 1960s.
"Pam Anderson loved the idea. We worked on it together and, lo, Striperella was
born," says Lee. "I guess I'm mostly known for superheroes, but I've written a
number of humorous books that have been published. I love comedy and this is
really a funny, exotic show."
The show is part of a new block of animated shows for adults on TNN (soon to be
renamed Spike TV).
Despite the obvious sexual overtones, Stan Lee says "Striperella" is not Playboy
Channel material.
"They [the network] know that I am a man of impeccable good taste and would
never do anything that would be offensive," says Lee.
The Pam Anderson show will air alongside a new cartoon called "Gary the Rat"
featuring Kelsey Grammer (or his voice, at least) as a slick lawyer so loathsome
he is actually transformed into a man-sized rat.
The shows debut later this month but it's been "Striperella" that's drawn the
most attention.
Anderson plays an exotic dancer named Erotica Jones whose alter-ego is
Stripperella, secret agent 0069, who works for a top-secret anti-crime
organization.
She's tipped off about trouble when her belly ring vibrates and swings into
action against villains like Cheapo (a bad-guy so cheap he and his henchmen
share one gun), a diabolical fashion designer Pushy Galore and the evil plastic
surgeon, Dr. Cesarean (played by "Star Wars' " Mark Hamill).
Striperella's most dangerous foe is a villain whose name is so X-rated it can't
be printed here (Hint: it rhymes with the name Queen Dolores.
"They're not of the Doctor Doom [nemesis of the Fantastic Four] or Magneto
[X-Men] variety," says Lee. "They're a little bit funnier."
To fight crime, Stiperella is armed with gadgets, like laser-lipstick as well as
her natural abilities: breasts that are natural lie-detectors and a hair-a-chute
which allows her to float safely down from great heights.
