Heartbreak Kid, The
Awful remake of the 1972 Neil Simon classic. On the third day of his honeymoon, Eddie Cantrow (Ben Stiller) believes he's finally found true love. Unfortunately, it's not with his new bride. After years of bachelorhood and ample pressure from his father, Doc (Jerry Stiller) and best friend Mac (Rob Corddry), Eddie starts to wonder if he is being too picky about the women he meets. So when a chance encounter with an alluring blonde named Lila (Malin Akerman) leads to a sweet romance, Eddie impulsively proposes. But right after the wedding, as the newlyweds get to know each other on the drive down the California coast, Eddie begins to realize he's made a terrible mistake. Soon after reaching their exotic Mexican hideaway, he falls for the down-to-earth Miranda (Michelle Monaghan), who has no clue he's on his honeymoon. "American Pie Presents: Beta House" (2007) another direct-to-video edition of the "American Pie" series, this time taking place in college, from Universal ... In "The Brothers Solomon" (2007), starring Will Arnett, Will Forte, Chi McBride, Kristen Wiig, Malin Akerman and Lee Majors, two well-meaning but socially-inept brothers go on a mission to make good on their dad's dying wish for a grandchild; from Sony ... "Robin-B-Hood" (2006) is a Jackie Chan Kung-fu action comedy in which Chan plays a compulsive gambler who turns to robbery to pay off his debts; the real trouble starts when his buddies try to score a big payout by kidnapping a baby and he's thrust into a world filled with diapers, milk bottles and droning lullabies; from Dragon Dynasty/Weinstein Company/Genius Products ... "Maximum Cage Fighting" (2007)is a mixed mixed martial arts actioner with a typical plot: A retired, once-prominent Tae Kwon Do champion is forced to face off against an old nemesis when his daughter is kidnapped; from Echo Bridge Home Entertainment ... In "Jackass 2.5" (2007), Johnny Knoxville and crew return for another foray into stupidity with outrageous stunts, from Paramount.

On the Indie Front:
When a middle-aged Hollywood actor and a small-town boy with big dreams are cast together in a local independent film in rural Texas, these seemingly different characters learn they have worlds in common in "Paradise, Texas" (2005), starring Timothy Bottoms, Ben Estus, Meredith Baxter, Sheryl Lee and Polly Bergen; from Monarch Home Video.

A Taste of January:
Coming January 1 are "Resident Evil: Extinction," the third and final installment of the $100 million Resident Evil trilogy; Jet Li and Jason Statham thriller "War," and "Indie Sex," which aired as a miniseries event on IFCtv in August 2007 and garnered the highest ratings in the channel's history. The two-disc set explores how independent films have provided a forum to discover society's deepest and darkest sexual fantasies played out on the big screen; $29.95 from Genius Products.
