In a small town on the outskirts of an American military base in
South Korea, three teenagers struggle to find their way in the
violent wake of the Korean war. Chang-guk (Yang Dong-kun), the

soldier father who abandoned him. Timid Ji-hum (Kim Young-min)
can't deal with his boastful, disabled veteran father. And
withdrawn Eunok (Ban Min-jung), blinded in one eye by a sibling's
prank, falls for James, a U.S. soldier, who promises to pay for
restorative surgery. All lives collide as each one's hope and
longing for a better future returns upon them like a letter
"marked" Address Unknown. In Korean with English subtitles.

to solve the mystery and find her daughter. Director: Robert

FOG, THE
A remake of the 1980 horror classic. Exactly 100 years ago, off
the rocky shore of an isolated Northern California town, a ship
of lepers was horribly wrecked in an eerie fog when the founders
of the town purposefully misguided the ship, dooming everyone
aboard. Now, tonight, the ghosts of the long-dead mariners have
returned from their watery graves to exact revenge. Shrouded
within a supernatural fog, the ghosts trap the residents of the
remote community, intent on seeking out the descendants of those
who founded the town ... and killing anyone who stands in their
murderous path. Director: Rupert Wainwright. Stars: Tom Welling,
Maggie Grace, Selma Blair, DeRay Davis, Kenneth Welsh, Adrian
Hough, Sara Botsford. 2005, CC, MPAA rating: PG-13, 100 min.,

young orphan boy who gets involved with a gang of pickpockets in
19th Century London. Abandoned at an early age, Oliver Twist
(Barney Clark) is forced to live in a workhouse lorded over by
the awful Mr. Bumble, who cheats boys of their meager rations.
Desperate yet determined, Oliver makes his escape to the streets
of London. Penniless and alone, he is lured into a world of crime
by the sinister Fagin (Ben Kingsley) -- the mastermind of a gang
of pint-sized pickpockets. Oliver's rescue by the kindly Mr.
Brownlow is only the beginning of a series of adventures that
lead him to the promise of a better life. Director: Roman
Polanski. Stars: Ben Kingsley, Barney Clark, Leanne Rowe, Mark
Strong, Jamie Foreman, Harry Eden. 2005, CC, MPAA rating: PG-13,

THUMBSUCKER
At the age of 17, Justin Cobb (Lou Pucci) still sucks his thumb.
Worried that his childish habit is disrupting his family, his
love life and his identity, he decides to stop. Hoping that
quitting his crutch will make him feel "normal," he turns to
hypnosis therapy administered by his free-spirited orthodontist
(Keanu Reeves). Meanwhile, on the home front, Justin's father, a
disgruntled ex-football player, is ashamed of his son's
thumbsucking. His mother, like Justin, is struggling to discover
who she is and how she became a "grown-up." After being diagnosed
with ADHD and prescribed Ritalin, Justin becomes more focused and
evolves into a debate superstar. When he realizes his newfound
success is not helping his popularity or home life, Justin turns
to prescription drugs and sex to replace his thumb. Director:
Mike Mills. Stars: Lou Taylor Pucci, Tilda Swinton, Vincent
D'Onofrio, Vince Vaughn, Keanu Reeves, Benjamin Bratt. 2005, CC,

VITAL
A look beneath the skin of humanity into the dark foundations of
memories, love and loss. Hiroshi Takagi (Tadanobu Asano), a young
man in his 20s, awakens in a hospital bed to find an auto
accident has completely wiped away his memory. Back home with his
parents and attempting to rebuild his life, he comes across a
medical textbook full of detailed drawings of dissection. Utterly
fascinated by the subject, Hiroshi is drawn to the medical school
to which he was once accepted, but refused to attend. There he
catches the eye of Ikumi Yoshimoto (Kiki), a brilliant, taunting
fellow student who desires his affections. But it's another who
becomes his obsession -- the dead woman on the cadaver table
(Nami Tsukamoto). Soon Hiroshi begins to have visions -- or are
they memories? -- of a life with this beautiful woman and a
career as an artist, not a doctor. Could she be the key to
unlocking his forgotten past? In Japanese with English subtitles.
Director: Shinya Tsukamoto. Stars: Tadanobu Asano, Nami
Tsukamoto, Kiki, Kazuyoshi Kushida. 2004, CC, MPAA rating: NA, 84

Verow and winner of the Chicago International Film Festival's
Silver Prize.
"Broken" (2005) is an indie film from director Alex Ferrari,
starring Samantha Jane Polay, Paul Gordon, Amber Crawford, Derek
Evans and Tony Gomez. The 19-minute, $8,000 horror film uses 100
special effects shots and comes on a DVD with six commentary
tracks explaining the filmmakers' techniques for getting a
professional look on a low budget. The film is about a young
woman who is kidnapped after having a violent nightmare: A gun
blast, a flash of light, and the young woman awakens to the
comfort of her own bed. Bonnie Clayton has it all, a great
relationship, a challenging career, and the burden of a dream
that grows more vivid and disturbing with each passing night. But
when Bonnie is abducted by a sadistic stranger and his colorful
entourage, she discovers that the key to her survival lies within
the familiar realms of her recurring dream. Film critic Roger
Ebert says that "Broken is essentially a demonstration of the
mastery of horror imagery and techniques ... effective and
professional." The film is available exclusively at
