CALL FOR SCREENPLAYS for the 2005 Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards
-sponsored by www.InkTip.com and Independent Pictures
For Immediate Release: April 29, 2005
Contact: Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillota, Co-Founding Artistic Directors of
Independent Pictures, (216) 651-7315
The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards introduce aspiring writers to the
professionals
who can propel real writing careers. "…my script received more industry exposure
than I
got from other contests I've won or placed in," states Rich Figel, winner of the
Best Voice
of Color Screenplay Award for his script INUGAMI. Over the years, winning
screenplays
have been optioned, other winners have been produced into full-length feature
films;
additionally, some winning writers are now well on their way to professional
writing
careers. "I've gotten such personal, individualized attention from Independent
Pictures, I'm
certain that same attitude will be reflected in the attention I get from
potential producers
as a result of my win," says Lily Mariye, winner of the Best of Voice of Color
Screenplay
Award for her script THE SHANGRI-LA CAFE. The 2005 Ohio Independent Screenplay
Awards marks Independent Pictures' 9th annual screenplay competition and boasts
a
seasoned judging process.
Personal coverage and feedback from programmers and readers on your screenplay
will be
available to every screenplay entrant. Exclaims writer Ken Johnson of the
coverage and
feedback, "Loved it. May be more valuable than the screenplay competition
itself." Writers
Joe Amato & Kass Fleisher add, "This is a tough industry to break into and we
found your
insights especially useful." Finalists and winners are awarded submission to
Hollywood and
NYC producers, talent management companies and production companies-the
introduction to a real writing career. On top of all that, winners receive even
more-
including representation/promotion by www.InkTip.com. Declares Spiro Skentzos,

Re: RFP for Independent Pictures website
Independent Pictures, a non-profit organization which is dedicated to the
support of the
freedom of expression through a number of programs and events, has a need for a
website re-design that would represent both Independent Pictures and The Ohio
Independent Film Festival in an exciting, interesting and efficient way. We are
seeking a
production group to complete graphic design and programming for the project,
including
necessary middleware for inputting of this data from the website to a simple
back-end
database or existing database. The finished piece must also include an
attractive front
"page" or what we assume to be a "flash" animation. As part of your proposed
budget,
please also include all fees for design of site, programming, and hosting of
site.
Although we have ideas for navigation and content, we look to you for
recommendations.
Optimally, the finished site needs to do the following:
• Present information about Independent Pictures, its purpose and history,
through use of
a historical section, FAQ's, a listing of sponsors and benefactors, and a
solicitation for
donations section.
• Present detailed information about The Ohio Independent Film Festival
including
historical references, schedule of present festival films and events,
descriptions of films,
and information on submitting films and attending festival.
• Present information about other events throughout the year, perhaps through
the use of
an updateable calendar.
• Allow direct purchases of items and tickets, or link customers to ticket
purchase point.
• Allow film submission applications and fees to be processed.
• Add festival attendees, applicants, volunteers, and/or other interested
persons to
mailing list and/or database.
• Allow for simple updating of information by Independent Pictures, through the
use of a
content management tool.
The due date for proposals is Friday, May 13, 2005. Please include:
• A line-itemed budget up to $3,000.00 (final billing must not exceed this
budget)
• An estimated production schedule, with the site-launch goal of October 1, 2005
in mind.
This schedule would include testing time.
• One or more initial design interpretations.
• Recommendations and explanations of middleware and database collection and
storage.
Assume no additional assets, beyond what is included with this RFP.
Thank you, in advance, for considering this project. If you need more
information, please
don't hesitate to contact me.

CALL FOR FILMS AND VIDEOS 2005 Ohio Independent Film Festival (OIFF)
For Immediate Release: February 9, 2005

Independent Pictures, presenter of the OIFF, (216) 651-7315
"What would filmmaking be without quality film festivals? The OIFF ranks with
the best,"
say Patrick Shen and Greg Bennick, festival veterans with their film FLIGHT FROM
DEATH:
THE QUEST FOR IMMORTALITY. The Ohio Independent Film Festival is one of the
leading
independent film events in Ohio. The 2005 OIFF, this November in Cleveland,
Ohio, will
mark the organization's 19th festival. Like many festivals, the OIFF is a judged
and
internationally recognized line-up of first-class independent films from around
the world.
But here's what is unique about the OIFF: it only accepts film and video
submissions
*without* theatrical distribution and the festival is programmed 100% from those
submissions. Exclaims Gina Carducci of STONE WELCOME MAT, "(The) OIFF has a way
of
respecting the independent filmmaker like no other festival… Maybe other film
festivals
will take a hint!" Additionally, every film and video entrant is offered a free
festival pass
regardless of acceptance status. "The Ohio Independent Film Festival is that
rare festival
that understands filmmakers, probably because it is run by and for filmmakers,"
adds
Sheldon Gleisser of FILTERED IMAGES. So submit your films and videos! Deadlines
to

OSCAR MAGIC BEING MADE IN CLEVELAND
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillota, 216/651-7315
(Cleveland, Ohio) Feb. 4, 2005—Oscar® magic will be shared with Clevelanders in
very
special ways on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at 7 p.m. The 77th Academy Awards®
ceremony
will be broadcast at Grays Armory in an evening of glamour and excitement.
"This year, Cleveland Oscar Night® America will feature some unique features and
talents," says Redwin Lewis, the event's director. From musical drama to
culinary flare,
Lewis promises an event of which Cleveland can boast.
Historic Grays Armory will lend itself to the evening's drama by its grand
spaces and
features. Cleveland's gathering is the only Oscar Night America celebration to
feature a
theatre organ. As guests enter the main hall of the Armory, they will be
surrounded by
their favorite film music played on one of the last theatre pipe organs created.
Donated to Grays by the Warner Brothers Company in 1969, the organ was
relocated,
installed and is now maintained by the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society.
"For
decades, theatre organs have generated excitement for movie patrons and we are
so
excited that this instrument is being doing so again for this year's Oscar
night," says Doug
Powers, President of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society.
Powers is also thrilled that Steven Ball has agreed to play Grays organ for the
evening.
According to Powers, Ball has "a unique perspective, energy, improvisatory
abilities and
performance style have kept audiences in theatres on the edge of their seats and
have
generated a new and unexpected excitement about the future of this instrument in
America."
The evening's Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be local showman
Christopher G.
Axelrod. Known for his warm and spontaneous humor, Axelrod has a long history
of
engaging audiences. "Oscar Night America offers Clevelanders a fantastic
opportunity to
celebrate with style and class and I'm pleased to be such a part of it."
For the second consecutive year, proceeds from Cleveland Oscar Night America

Feb. 27, 2005 at

record-breaking
crowd for Oscar Night® America in Cleveland.
Last year Cleveland Oscar Night® America saw its largest crowd yet, with over

America 2005 is produced by Christopher G. Axelrod and directed by Redwin Lewis.
"Cleveland Oscar Night® America has evolved from a more casual affair to an
annual,
must-attend social gala," Lewis says. "Our city has a long tradition of
supporting all types
of art, and the growth of this event is one more sign of that ongoing
commitment."
"Oscar Night® has always been a night for friends and families to gather and
cheer for
their favorite films and stars," says Ric Robertson, executive administrator of
the Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. "This nationwide network of fundraising
parties is a
natural extension of that shared experience."

Cleveland eras. The 1930's Kingsbury Run Torso murders are happening again.

Ness' modern counterpart has to defy history to unmask the past and present
killers in the
only case Ness never closed. The 1st runner up in this category is HALCYON DAYS
by
Daniel P. Moriarty.
Finally, the Best Screenplay Award goes to the most overall well-written and
crafted story.

Instead
of a summer of US History, Tommy must hide in the Mall of America while he works
to
clear his father's name and plot revenge on the dirty cops who framed him. The

up in this category is NOT HERE, YOU WON'T by Jack Kilpatrick.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2004 OHIO INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL, NOVEMBER 7-14, 2004
For Immediate Release: October 21, 2004
Contact: Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillota, Co-Founding Artistic Directors of
Independent Pictures, (216) 651-7315
Cleveland, Ohio-Highlights include:
· Sunday, November 7, 9a-6p: 5th ANNUAL DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY (DP) WORKSHOP
AND AIVF SALON with Tiffany Laufer (Los Angeles) and Cleveland legend Robert C.
Banks,
Jr. An IP signature event, this wildly popular, hands-on workshop allows
participants to
help DPs light and shoot scenes on 16mm film, which is then screened the next
weekend
at the festival. Fee is $50, which includes lunch the day of the workshop and
admission to
the 2004 OIFF Friday evening, November 12. Limited seating available,
reservations must
be made and paid for in advance, deadline November 4. Location is at WVIZ/PBS-
IdeaStream, 4300 Brookpark Road.
· Monday, November 8, 7p and 8p: Film and Art Opening Night reception at 7p
(free and
open to the public), and at 8p the Ohio premiere of the short LONELY PLACE (When
drifter
Jesse secures a farm job, wife Stella-played by film veteran Tess Harper-is
forced to
reconsider Love's role in the institution of Marriage), followed by the Ohio
premiere of the
feature film NOISE.
· Tuesday, November 9, 7p and 9p: a short film program at 7p, and the Ohio
premiere of
the feature film ENTERTAINING VIETNAM. Many of the performers who toured during
the
Vietnam War were well known ... but not all. The entertainers we meet returned
repeatedly
to Vietnam, hitching rides from base to base to perform on the backs of trucks
and on
landing zones at remote outposts ... some died in the process. Interweaving rare
archival
footage and interviews with veteran performers from Australia and the U.S., the
film offers
new insight into a tumultuous time by taking us to a place only a few really
experienced.
· Wednesday, November 10, 7p and 9p: a short film program at 7p including the
world
premiere of BUSHMEN (A telling satire on President George W. Bush), and at 9p
the world
premiere of the feature film PHOTO-FINISH.
· Thursday, November 11, 9a-8p: OHIO DAY, films written, directed,
photographed, and
starring Ohioans, including at 2p the world premiere of the feature film TURNING
THE
CORNER. A college student, also a quadriplegic, must overcome his slacker nature
to face
the future he has so skillfully avoided. Its not his disability that scares
him, its adulthood.
· Friday, November 12: noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night, one
highlight
at 2p is the world premiere of the feature film SADAA E ZAN (VOICES OF WOMEN).
The film
is an intimate look at the contemporary challenges facing the women in
Afghanistan.
Composed of testimonials from women and girls, the film offers no easy answers,
but it
captures the resilient spirit of these women as they bravely emerge from the
rubble of
tyranny and oppression, determined to reach freedom.
· Saturday, November 13, noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night,
one
highlight at 6p is the world premiere of the feature film THE FUTURE OF FOOD.
There's a
revolution going on in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America-a
revolution
that is being fought behind the closed doors of corporate boardrooms, courtrooms
and
laboratories over the use of genetically modified organisms in our food. THE
FUTURE OF
FOOD offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the
unlabeled GMO
products that have filled grocery store shelves over the past decade.
· Sunday, November 14, noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night, one
highlight
at noon is the Ohio premiere of the feature film PLAGUES & PLEASURES ON THE
SALTON
SEA. There was time when the Salton Sea, tucked into the southeast corner of
California
was known as the Riviera of the West-a haven for jetsetters and vacationers.
Originally
created by accident, it‚s now one of the country‚s worst ecological disasters: a
fetid,
stagnant, salty lake, coughing up dead fish and birds by the thousands. Still,
a hardy few
have hung on there, hoping for help to come along and restore the lake to its
former
glory. Congressman Sonny Bono himself was once dedicated to saving the lake,
until he
went skiing one day. Eccentrics abound in this surreal landscape: the naked guy
who
waves to passing RVs; the man who built his own holy mountain; beer-loving
Hungarian
Hunky Daddy; the guys who plan to get rich someday when this virtual sewer
becomes a
Riviera again. Hair-raising and hilarious, part history lesson, part cautionary
tale and part
portrait of one of the strangest communities you've ever seen, this is the
American Dream
gone as stinky as a dead carp.
All programs are presented at Cleveland Public Theatre, 6415 Detroit Road, and
are $10/
program unless otherwise noted. Surf www.ohiofilms.com for hotel information and
complete festival schedule. Visit ww.ticketweb.com for directions and sales.

· Monday, November 8, 7p and 8p: Film and Art Opening Night reception at 7p
(free and
open to the public), and at 8p the Ohio premiere of the feature film NOISE. A
young
divorcee and recovering alcoholic moves into a Manhattan apartment that seems a
bit too
secluded to be true. It is: upstairs lives Charlotte Bancroft (ALLY SHEEDY),
who in addition
to having one of the all-time-great thriller names is a sociopath of some
reliability.
· Tuesday, November 9, 7p and 9p: a short film program at 7p including THE
SELECT FIT
by Mansfield, Ohio native Daniel Roemet (A video editor, with the power to
manipulate
reality, gets enlightenment from two jaded angels.), and a feature film
presentation at 9p.
· Wednesday, November 10, 7p and 9p: a short film program at 7p, and at 9p the
world
premiere of the feature film PHOTO-FINISH. Photographer Joe Wilde is devastated
when
Elen Feathers leaves him to pursue an affair with wealthy James Wise.
Descending into a
spiral of jealous obsession Joe plots an orchestrated campaign of revenge and
voyeuristically pursues James' vulnerable wife Martha. When he seduces her, the
results
are catastrophic. PHOTO-FINISH is a modern morality tale. A psychological
drama dealing
with lust, betrayal and revenge.
· Thursday, November 11, 9a-8p: OHIO DAY, films written, directed, photographed,
and
starring Ohioans, starting at 9a and ending at 8p with a double feature: the
world
premieres of science-fiction feature films MARTIANS FROM VENUS and SHADES.
· Friday, November 12: noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night, one
highlight
at noon is the Ohio premiere of the feature film IN THE LAND OF MILK AND MONEY.
When
Mothers are the "monsters" how can we react? "Are you now, or have you ever
been…a
Mother?" This outrageously daring comedy turns the `50s style sci-fi on its
head. A
scathing social satire that is scarily relevant to today's world. Bold,
experimental, and
subversively funny.
· Saturday, November 13, noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night,
one
highlight at 4p is the Ohio premiere of the feature film SINKHOLE. The story of
Jason
Griffin, a high school teacher dismissed due to alleged romantic relations with
an
underage student. When Jason, now working at the local landfill, discovers the
body of a
young woman among the refuse, he sets in motion a chain of events that ends in
violence
and emotional devastation.
· Sunday, November 14, noon-8p: Short and feature films all day and night, one
highlight
at 8p is the Ohio premiere of the feature film SO GLAD I MADE IT. The film is
the saga of
singer songwriter Roger Salloom, a 50-something former 1960s psychedelic rocker
and
1970s Nashville songwriter, who tries to jump-start his career after a 20 years
absence
from the music business.

Cleveland, Ohio-The official presentation of Independent
Pictures' Ohio Indie Awards, presented to the winning films from
the 2003 Ohio Independent Film Festival, will add to the festivities
at Cleveland's own Academy-sanctioned Oscar Night(R) America
party. The Cleveland party is one of 46 official parties that will be
held across the country when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences stages its 76th Academy Awards(R) Presentation on Sunday,
February 29, 2004.
Benefiting the Ohio Independent Film Festival, and hosted by
filmmaker Robert C. Banks, Jr. and Donald C. Shingler, D.D.S. (who
was just highlighted this past December in the Plain Dealer's
Sunday Magazine for his attention to worthy causes), the Cleveland
Oscar Night celebration will be held, complete with spectacular views
of Cleveland and Lake Erie, in the Tower at the Tower Press Building,
1900 Superior Avenue, beginning at 7 pm. Tickets ($25) are now on
sale by calling Nina Yancer at (440) 323-2032. Call now to get
tickets; space is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
The Cleveland audience will feel like stars themselves, dressed in
fashion-forward black tie optional attire, as they witness WEWS-TV 5
News Anchor Tonya Strong awarding the Ohio Indie Awards, watch the
Academy Awards telecast, and sustain themselves with wine and
appetizers. The Academy will make available to party guests in
Cleveland the same official program distributed to guests seated at
the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood, California.
Copies of the 76th Academy Awards commemorative poster, designed by
Burton Morris, will also be available in Cleveland.
Says host Donald C. Shingler, DDS, "We are excited about this
incredible venue. We have secured the 5-Story Tower of the Tower
Press Building. It may be the only time that some Clevelanders can
see the Tower with its spectacular views of Cleveland and Lake
Erie."

The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards introduce aspiring writers to
the professionals who can propel real writing careers. "…my
script received more industry exposure than I got from other contests
I've won or placed in," states Rich Figel, winner of the 2002 Best
Voice of Color Screenplay Award for his script INUGAMI. Over the
years, winning screenplays have been optioned, other winners have
been produced into full-length feature films; additionally, some
winning writers are now well on their way to professional writing
careers. "I've gotten such personal, individualized attention
from Independent Pictures, I'm certain that same attitude will be
reflected in the attention I get from potential producers as a result
of my win," says Lily Mariye, winner of the 2003 Best of Voice of
Color Screenplay Award for her script THE SHANGRI-LA CAFE. The 2004
Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards marks Independent Pictures'
8th annual screenplay competition and boasts a seasoned judging
process.
Personal coverage and feedback from programmers and readers on your
screenplay will be available to every screenplay entrant. Exclaims
writer Ken Johnson of the coverage and feedback, "Loved it. May
be more valuable than the screenplay competition itself." Writers
Joe Amato & Kass Fleisher add, "This is a tough industry to break
into and we found your insights especially useful." Finalists and
winners are awarded submission to Hollywood and NYC producers, talent
management companies and production companies-the introduction to a
real writing career. On top of all that, winners receive even more-
including cash and representation/promotion by www.InkTip.com.
Declares Spiro Skentzos, winner of the 2003 Best Screenplay Award for
his script THREE MILE FAMILY, "It was great to finally find a
screenplay competition that rewards smaller, character-orientated
films over mainstream Hollywood ideas."
Deadlines to submit screenplays for the 2004 screenplay competition
are: June 1; July 1 (late). Please call (216) 651-7315, email

CLEVELAND'S OFFICIAL OSCAR NIGHT(R) PARTY TO BENEFIT OIFF
For Immediate Release: January 29, 2004

Directors of Independent Pictures, presenter of the OIFF, (216) 651-

Cleveland, Ohio-You don't have to live in Hollywood to experience
the magic and excitement of Oscar Night. Residents of Cleveland can
join in the festivities when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences stages its 76th Academy Awards(R) Presentation on Sunday,
February 29, 2004, by attending Cleveland's own
Academy-sanctioned Oscar Night(R) America party. The Cleveland party
is one of 46 official parties that will be held across the country on
Oscar Night.
Oscar Night celebration will be held, complete with spectacular views
of Cleveland and Lake Erie, in the Tower at the Tower Press Building,
1900 Superior Avenue, beginning at 7pm. Tickets ($25) are now on
sale by calling Nina Yancer at (440) 323-2032. Call now to get
tickets; space is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
The Cleveland audience will watch the Academy Awards telecast with
support from WEWS, the Cleveland affiliate of the ABC Television
Network, which broadcasts the Academy Awards. ABC and the Academy
are cooperating for the eleventh year with local charities for these
official Oscar Night viewing parties. This year marks the eighth
year that the Cleveland party has been officially sanctioned by the
Academy.
"Watching the Academy Awards Show is one of the great American
traditions," says Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis.
"Since the public can't come to Los Angeles to attend the
Awards Presentation, we created Oscar Night America, which allows
these local parties to tie into the excitement of Oscar Night and to
support some very worthy causes." Official Oscar Night parties
last year raised over $1.7 million for local charities in 37 cities.
All money raised stays in the community; none of it goes to the
Academy.
The Academy will make available to party guests in Cleveland the same
official program distributed to guests seated at the Kodak Theatre at
Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood, California. Copies of the 76th
Academy Awards commemorative poster, designed by Burton Morris, will
also be available in Cleveland. In addition, guests may feel like
stars themselves, dressed in fashion-forward black tie optional
attire, as they are entertained by WEWS-TV 5 News Anchor Tonya Strong
and sustain themselves with wine and appetizers.
"Oscar Night generates excitement all over the world," says
host Donald C. Shingler. "With the Academy's help, our guests
will feel like they are part of the A-list. On Oscar Night there
will be two places to be: Cleveland's Oscar Night America and the
Academy Awards (themselves) in Los Angeles."

CALL FOR FILMS AND VIDEOS
2004 Ohio Independent Film Festival (OIFF)
For Immediate Release: January 22, 2004
Contact: Annetta Marion or Bernadette Gillota, Co-Founding Artistic
Directors of Independent Pictures, presenter of the OIFF, (216) 651-

"What would filmmaking be without quality film festivals? The OIFF
ranks with the best," say Patrick Shen and Greg Bennick, festival
veterans with their film FLIGHT FROM DEATH: THE QUEST FOR
IMMORTALITY. The Ohio Independent Film Festival is one of the
leading independent film events in Ohio. The 2004 OIFF, this
November in Cleveland, Ohio, will mark our 18th festival. Like many
festivals, the OIFF is a judged and internationally recognized line-
up of first-class independent films from around the world.
But here's what is unique about the OIFF: it only accepts film and
video submissions *without* theatrical distribution and the festival
is programmed 100% from those submissions. Exclaims Gina Carducci of
STONE WELCOME MAT, "(The) OIFF has a way of respecting the
independent filmmaker like no other festival… Maybe other film
festivals will take a hint!" Additionally, every film and video
entrant benefits from personal feedback from festival programmers on
his or her film. "The Ohio Independent Film Festival is that
rare festival that understands filmmakers, probably because it is run
by and for filmmakers," adds Sheldon Gleisser of FILTERED IMAGES
So submit your films and videos! Deadlines to submit films and
videos for the 2004 OIFF are: June 1; July 1 (late). Please call
(216) 651-7315, email OhioIndieFilmFest@..., or visit
