Cleveland, Ohio-In keeping with Independent Pictures' decade-long
history of highlighting Ohio artists, short and feature films
written, directed, produced, photographed, designed, and acted by
Ohioians will be presented all day Thursday, November 6, 9a-9p
($10/program), at the 10 Year Anniversary OIFF at Cleveland Public
Theatre, 6415 Detroit Road. Some highlights of Ohio Day are:
· 9:00 am: Shorts Program including the World Premiere of
SKETCHCETERA by Columbus filmmaker Peter John Ross. From humor to
drama to science fiction, many comedic parts of SKETCHCETERA feature
the cast of Second City Cleveland, and were mostly improvised.
· 11:00 am: Shorts Program including the World Premiere of
INSTANT MUSCLES by Athens filmmaker Mark Shogren. A cinematic
approach to the age-old problem of the bully and a young boy's
imaginative solution to the problem. But, will it work?
· 1:00 pm: the World Premiere of the feature film LOVE IN A
STRAIGHTJACKET by Cleveland filmmaker Marcus A. Cook. A group of
mental patients have their lives abruptly changed by an addition to
their group named Julia, a violent, borderline schizophrenic. Julia
is having trouble adjusting until she meets Shawn, a claustrophobic
who joins the group for weekend treatments. Will love cure them or
keep them locked up forever?
· 3:00 pm: the World Premiere of the feature film LOOK FOR THE
WOMAN by Cleveland filmmaker Jeff Gosnell. Reality isn't always
what it seems for Jeff, an aspiring screenwriter who has a history of
dating the wrong women. After his latest girlfriend breaks up with
him, Jeff finds himself the accidental hero when he comes to the
rescue of femme fatale, Veronica. Film noir meets murder mystery
theatre in this feature length dark comedy.
· 5:00 pm: the World Premiere of the feature film HIP HOP
RESURRECTION: FROM NY TO NZ by Michael Deet, Cleveland filmmaker now
based in Los Angeles. Documents the talent-rich music community of
South Pacific Islanders living in the country of New Zealand.
· 7:00 pm: Shorts Program including LUCKY'S by Dayton
filmmaker Alvoro Leite. A soldier returns to his old haunts and falls
for the alluring wife of a Korean grocer. Full of hope, he discovers
some things for which the service never prepared him.
· 9:00 pm: the Ohio Premiere of the feature film HUNGRY HEARTS
by Columbus filmmakers Rolf Schrader & Gaynelle W. Sloman. Miles
LaRue is a gourmet chef for the rich and famous, who is as well known
as his clientele. He has been hired to cater a feast for a small
group of beautiful women, a task that seems routine until he realizes
that this is a suicide party. Now faced with a moral dilemma and held
by a dark secret, Miles must fill their hearts as well as their
stomachs. Welcome to the ultimate feast!
