DAY BY DAY AT THE 2002 OHIO INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL NOVEMBER 2-10

Cleveland, Ohio-Please join us for the 2002 Ohio Independent Film
Festival, November 2-10, our ninth year of independent film
festivals. All events are presented at Cleveland Public
Theatre's Gordon Square Theatre, 6409 Detroit Road, unless
otherwise noted below. Please call (216) 651-7315, email

directions and advance ticket sales. Attend the festival for details
on after-festival parties Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
Some daily highlights include:

· Saturday, November 2, 9a-6p, at WVIZ/PBS-IdeaStream, 4300
Brookpark Road: DOCUMENTARY WORKSHOP with New York City-based
production company Sugar Pictures, which has produced projects for
HBO, CINEMAX, and PBS. The workshop provides hard-won lessons from
professional filmmakers on researching, fund-raising, producing, and
marketing non-fiction films. Advance registration is recommended,
space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

· Sunday, November 3, 9a-5p, at WVIZ/PBS-IdeaStream, 4300
Brookpark Road: 3RD ANNUAL DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY (DP) WORKSHOP with
local legend Robert C. Banks, Jr. This wildly popular, hands-on
workshop allows participants to help three DPs light and shoot scenes
on 16mm film, which is then screened the next weekend at the festival.

· Monday, November 4, 7p, at Shaker Square Cinemas, 13116
Shaker Blvd: PREMIERE PRESENTATION of the feature film ZELIMO (young
boy escapes anti-Semitic Russia only to be baited as a commie spy by
kids at an orthodox Jewish camp in New York), panel discussion on
TOLERANCE, reception.

· Tuesday, November 5, 8p: SCRIPT MILL, a professional,
unstaged screenplay reading of an award-winning script, is modeled
after the Nuyorican Poets Café's program in New York City.

· Wednesday, November 6, 5p: PREMIERE PRESENTATION of the
feature film REFRIGERATOR MOTHERS (about the challenges of raising an
autistic child, the pain and stigma of labels, and the strength of
courageous mothers and the unconditional love they have for their
children), panel discussion on AUTISM AND THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE,
reception.

· Wednesday, November 6, 7 and 9p: Short film programs, a
highlight at 7p is MOVE (a racial drama starring rapper turned actor
Coolio) and a highlight at 9p is TUG OF WAR (a look at the most
bizarre and riveting group of international sporting champions
you're ever likely to meet) from returning Australian filmmaker
Fiona Cochrane.

· Thursday, November 7, 9a-9p: OHIO DAY, films written,
directed, photographed, and starring Ohioans, starting at 9a and
ending at 9p with the world premiere of THIS TRAIN (country girl
becomes possessed by the spirit of the Archangel Michael) from
celebrated Ohio artist Aralee Strange with a stellar cast including
Soupy Sales.

· Friday, November 8: 9a-8p: Short films all day and night plus
the PREMIERE PRESENTATION at 5p of the feature film MYTH OF FATHER
(Jodie, a transsexual woman, comes out to her son and he begins a
journey to discover his "real" father. This documentary is
an exploration of his and his family's journey of understanding,
culminating in a family reunion), panel discussion on TRANSGENDER AND
FAMILY, reception.

· Saturday, November 9, 9a-1p: Day One of the SPECIAL EFFECTS
WORKSHOP with Los Angeles-based effects veteran Stephen Lebed
(currently Visual Effects Supervisor for the hit TV show CHARMED
starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs, past
credits include INDEPENDENCE DAY). Advance registration is
recommended, space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

· Saturday, November 9, 1-8p: Short and feature films the rest
of the day and night, one highlight is the feature film GROWNUPS at
3p (love, marriage, friendship, and wife-swapping) starring a few of
Hollywood's legends and young popular stars like John Stamos.

· Sunday, November 10, 9a-1p: Day Two of the SPECIAL EFFECTS
WORKSHOP with Los Angeles-based effects veteran Stephen Lebed
(currently Visual Effects Supervisor for the hit TV show CHARMED
starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs, past
credits include INDEPENDENCE DAY). Advance registration is
recommended, space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

· Sunday, November 10, 1-9p: Short and feature films the rest
of the day and night, one highlight at 9p is our closing film WAY OFF
BROADWAY (a fresh look at struggling New York City artists crash
coursing friendship, sex, love, failure and betrayal) starring an
exemplary ensemble cast of well-known faces from television,
Hollywood and independent films, and theater.

Independent Pictures supports emerging media artists and the
exhibition of their films and video projects to a wider audience
through the Ohio Independent Film Festival and other programs such as
the Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards, Script Mill, film training
programs, and workshops.
