Cleveland, Ohio-Winners finally announced of the 2001 Ohio
Independent Screenplay Awards (OISA), our 5th annual screenplay
competition. Please join us at the 2001 Ohio Independent Film
Festival & Market, November 6 at 8p for the presentation of this
year's awards.
The winner of the Best Screenplay Award is MELTON PORCINI, a
political satire by Jack Kilpatrick. The winner of the Best
Northcoast Screenplay Award, which we created three years ago to
specifically promote Northern Ohio as a feature film shooting
location, is CHINESE BABY, a drama by Mollie Jones.
The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards introduce aspiring writers to
the professionals who can facilitate real writing careers. Over the
years, winning screenplays have been optioned, other winners have
been produced into full-length feature films; additionally, some
winning writers are now well on their way to professional writing
careers. Among the OISA prizes are: $1,000 cash to each winner,
subscriptions to Scr(i)pt Magazine, representation by
WritersScriptNetwork.com, submission to film industry professionals
(e.g., producers, production companies, talent agencies, etc.), and a
reading at Script Mill, our professional Screenplay Reading Program.
The winning screenplay presented this year at Script Mill is MELTON
PORCINI, a political satire about a man who doesn't want to be
President but becomes just that with a little help from the mob.
Script Mill is a "movie in your imagination;" it is a raw and
unstaged performance, but professionally directed and cast. Guided
by a narrator, these readings are an important and innovative tool
for screenwriters to road-test a screenplay's dialogue and timing in
front of a live audience. Script Mill and other awards will be
presented at the 2001 Ohio Independent Film Festival & Market on
November 6 at 8p at Cleveland Public Theatre, 6415 Detroit Road.
We are very pleased this year to welcome director and actor Ernest
Hemmings as our Script Mill director. He is the writer and director
for the subversive sketch comedy group The Human Zoo, and is a
graduate of the School of Performing and Visual Arts as well as the
Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. Mr. Hemmings has
worked
across Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio.
