Independent Pictures and Greater Cleveland Community Shares co-sponsor a special
call
for films and videos with social justice themes. The selected film or films will
be shown at
the Ohio Independent Film Festival in November 2005 as part of Community Shares'
20th
Anniversary education series. In honor of its 20th year of promoting social
justice in
Greater Cleveland, Community Shares will present a special award to the
filmmaker(s),
recognizing his/her contribution to the fight against inequality and injustice.

Social justice-themed films may address one or more of the following issue
areas:
o Civil and human rights
o Gender inequity; rights of women and girls
o Health and environmental issues, particularly as they intersect with other
social issues
(such as race, poverty, etc.)
o Health care inequity, injustice
o Racism, discrimination, hate crimes
o Art that makes a difference, changes the world
o Cycle of poverty—problems and solutions
o Workers' rights
o Voter education, rights, and civic participation
o Community organizing—the collective power of people to make change
