OMG another outlander freak/lover Jaime is probably one of the best characters in fiction ever to be written and what about the rest of them? They're all so amazing and delicious I just wanna eat them all up.

I meant to do this last night, but forgot, and because I won't be home until after 10pm tonight... so I'm doing it over breakfast, instead. :)
So here we go...
Write a character study about (pick one):
Oscar Jack Mush Itey Swifty
From the point of view of (pick one): Pie-eater Kid Blink David Specs Bumlets
Think about this one. What kind of relationship will your two characters have? Will they be lovers? Best friends? Enemies? Does Bumlets idol Jack? Is Pie-eater afraid of Swifty? Does Specs even know who Itey is?
There is no word limit and no time limit. It's all up to you.
- - - NOTE ABOUT POSTING
When you have finished your challenge fic, you're free to do whatever you want. You can post it on FFN, on your personal site, whatever. One thing I, again, would really really like to see is people posting on the One Voice United fic archive (
http://onevoice.queenitsy.com/archive). See, that way we definitely have everything in one place. There's a special "challenge" category just for us! So, even if you post on FFN, please also post on OVU.
Don't forget that plugging your challenge fic is fair game... in fact, it's encouraged. Once you've finished, tell us! And tell us where to find it (or include it in the body of the email).
One more thing. When you post on One Voice United (and FFN, if you wish) please include the challenge number in the summary. This is challenge #1, next week will be #2, etc.
NOTE ABOUT CHALLENGES
"Official" challenges are sent out every Friday and numbered according to the week... so this is week one, etc etc.
"Unofficial" means everything else. If you get a really good idea for a prompt, send it to the group! If you decide you want to have "Meg's Marvelous Mondays" and sent out your own prompt every Monday - go ahead. Don't be shy.
That's it for now, cause today is my last day of school and I'm running late!
Give us a fun fact: I can stand on my head for longer than you should be able to without fainting.
Penname (on FFN): Dicefreak (I'm working on a Narnia!Sue. >D)
Favorite newsie: Spot, Race or Dutchy. Take your pick I like 'em all.
Favorite line in the movie: "We ain't got five bucks! We don't even got five cents! Your Honor, how 'bout I roll ya for it, double or nuttin'?" He's trying to get a Judge to gamble.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Bernard Cornwell, Joan Baeur, Janet Fitch, Gaarth Nix.
Favorite (published) book(s): "White Oleander,"Hope Was Here, "The Return of the King," "Defying Hitler," "Sabriel," "Rose In Bloom," "Going Postal," "Thud," "Night Watch." And many, many more.
Favorite quote: "Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show." Strange as it may be, I actually almost liked David Copperfield. And I liked that line, for it is a good one from an author's viewpoint.
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Stage, um...Ramarama...I'm not so good with remembering the names of people who wrote my favorite stories. Bad me. D:
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "Ash Wednesday" by Ramarama. It's...very different.
Favorite genre to read? To write? ANYTHING. And I am serious. As long as it is well written, I will read it. I must confess I'm partial to angst/action/adventure, though. And as to writing...I love to write mystery/supernatural, and epic.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!) Well, I don't have any Newsies fix yet. So I can either link to the on purpose Mary Sue, or the Lost fanfic...I think I'll go with Lost. Ha. "I'm At Loss:" http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3354821/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: When someone murders a thesaurus.
RP? Quiiiiite a bit, really. Aheh. MySpace/Message boards/IM.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? Yes! Who wouldn't be? You get to see what you can write for a set goal. :D
Any other comments: Mmmm...nope, not really. Other than I wish I could remember the names of authors/fics like I want to. XD

weeks for the opening of the Pirates of the Carribean in Denver. I
know it's not Hollywood, but it could be a step in that direction
Penname (on FFN): Raeghann
Favorite newsie: Which ever one presents the most challenge at the
moment. Spot is usually a favorite; he can be so much fun to work
with. Mush was a blast to make a bad boy, and I think I'm working on
one with Jack shortly
Favorite line in the movie: "Well, well if it isn't Jack be nimble
Jack be quick." There are of course more, and they tend to be
scattered throughout my stories. Battle of Fate the most.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): I could no more pick a star from the
heavens. I know another movie quote, but it is so true. I'm a
bookaholic! Right now Karen Marie Moning. Sexy Highlanders, time
travel, and love. It's great kind of like Dianna Gabaldon's Outlander
series.
Favorite (published) book(s): The Outlander series, by Dianna
Gaboldon, and then I repeat my answer to favorite authors.
Favorite quote: "Human hearts, what care I for human hearts, cold and
spiritless as porridge. A faery heart beats fierce and free." - Una,
Legend
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Falco, Kez, Arlene2, Stress,
Shortie, Brunette, and a few others I can't think of off the top of
my head
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "In New York" by Falco
Conlon, "Maldiçao de Diabo" by stress. "Long Black Veil" by
Kez, "Going Home" by RiotAct, "Eyes Closed Heart Open " byTuesday
Blue, and "Hidden Past" By Evanescing Dreamer...........to name a few
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read? Almost anything, I love
humor, and angst if it ends well, and romance. I'm a romantic at
heart.
Recommend us one of your stories... I guess Dream to Dream
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1242884/1/ I know it's such a over used
plot, but I've had so much fun trying to break the norm. I hope I
broke the norm that is. It is in major need of revision, which once
I finish it I'll probably start all over again. Oh, and for those of
you that are fans, a new chapter has been written and is in editing
as we speak.
Fanfic pet peeve: Writing in an awful New York accent and over used
plots that have no originality. I don't mind Mary Sues so long as
they are well written, because honestly who are we kidding most of
the Newsies are a Mary Sue.
RP?
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? We'll see if I can swing it,
and if I'm intrigued. Half of my writing is based on what intrigues
me. Such as writing Mush as a bad boy. Taking an over used plot and
attempting an original spin.... etc.
Any other comments: Nope I think I've over commented as it is.
I've written the pairing a little (and even /that's/ stretching it), like with
my co-authored story 'He Freakin' Blocked Me', which is modern, and written
completely in AIM, so that doesn't really count. There's also 'I'm Invisible',
but only if you read into it. Like, a lot.
Hmm...maybe this is a sign I should start writing again...

Whoops. But yes! Swifty/Bumlets = best pairing ever. (There are a few good
stories with this pairing, but I think most of them are unfinished?) - Sinhe

What should we call you?: I've always gone by Sinhe in this fandom, which is
funny because almost everyone else calls me Maddy. Either is fine with me.
Give us a fun fact: I am a week and a half away from finishing my second year
of college. Scary, huh?
Penname (on FFN): Sinhe
Favorite newsie: Dutchy. Always. Despite that Swifty/Bumlets is my favorite
pairing. Oh well, whatever.
Favorite line in the movie: Probably, "So'd I spell it right Kloppman?
Strike." Because really? It's Dutchy's only line, and I'm nothing if
not biased.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman, Lynn Flewelling,
David Mitchell, Dennis L. McKiernen. A whole lot more.
Favorite (published) book(s): The Onion Girl, American Gods, Watchmen (which,
while it is a graphic novel, is actually considered a novel), The Sparrow,
Otherland. A lot that I am forgetting at the moment.
Favorite quote: I don't really have a favorite quote, so much. I am, however,
obsessed with song lyrics. So have some of those: "there once was a time I was
sure of the bond/ when my hands and my tongue and my thoughts were enough/ we
are the same but our lives move along/ and the third one between replaces what
once was love"
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Stage, B, TSB, Hotshot, hilby, etc, etc. I
must confess that I haven't read in this fandom in a long time, and should
probably go back and reread stuff.
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): The VTones, by B and signpost, Vaudeville!
(which is now being updated, yay!), by hilby, Forbidden, by lulu, Last Chance,
by Hotshot. Against with the having to reread.
Favorite genre to read? To write?: Angst mostly, in both cases. I can't help
it, I tend to like the darker side to things. I do like romance and humor and
gen and just about everything else, but angst is what really gets me.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): I don't really like
any of the stories I wrote for this fandom, mostly because they were written
so long ago that I find them kind of hard to look at. Sorry? Whatever, I guess
I'll put up the most recent one - It Figures
(http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2196082/1/)
Fanfic pet peeve: I have so many, which is part of why I can't look at some of
the stuff I wrote without laughing. Unlikely characterizations, character
bastardization, really really thick New York accents (which I am totally
guilty of, but really, that was a long time ago! And I realized how annoying
it was before the end of the fic, ahahahah.) I'm also, specific to this
fandom, kind of sick of unoriginal plots, and how often the Newsies appear in
modern times. Also, original female characters, just because they aren't
done well often enough to make me want to read any of them.Ă‚Â
RP?: I have before, quite a bit, actually. Haven't really done it recently,
though.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? : Sure thing!
Any other comments: Uh? Just that I haven't written for this fandom in
forever, I guess. Seriously, so long.
What should we call you? Kandy's my nn. Kam's my real nick name, so
either of those work.
Give us a fun fact: My spring goal is to make an awesome butterfly
garden in my yard!
Penname (on FFN): GeckoPixie
Favorite newsie: It changes, lol. First it was Spot, then Spot/ Mush,
and I think know I'm kinda with Dutchy/ Skittery.
Favorite line in the movie: "Yeah he was here. But he put an egg in
his shoe and beat it"
---
Favorite (published) author(s): JK Rowling, C.S. Lewis, Gregory
Maguire
Favorite (published) book(s): The Chronicles of Narnia, Illusions:
The Adventures of a Reluctant Messaiah (by Richard Bach) The Harry
Potter books (esp 3!), Wicked, Son of a Witch, The Alchemist (by
Paulo Coelho), Winesburg, Ohio (by Sherwood Anderson)
Favorite quote: Hmm it changes a lot, a lot of the time it depends on
whatever I'm listening to. The book "Illusions" has a lot of good
quotes, including: "There's no such thing as a problem without gifts.
You chose your problems because you want their gifts."
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Nerikla, Thumbsucker Snitch, Stress
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "Living Art" by
studentnumber24601, "Anything But That" by Mondie, "Moon in
Capricorn" by Tuesday Blue
Favorite genre to read? To write? I'll read anything mostly. As for
writing....I think I've mostly written romance and angst...everything
I write turns into that, haha. I'd like to try writing humor or a
suspense story sometime.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): Well, I ve
only posted three stories online, lol. Here's my most recent. It's
called "Mother Says": http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2954942/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: Poorly done/ over the top NY accents. Also Mary
Sues- even though I must admit that I wrote tons of Mary Sue stories
back in the day.
RP? Yep!- when i have some time. Used to on Yahoo a lot and just
stopped doing a MySpace one. I don't think I'm that great at IM
rping. I wish I had more time to do it through online groups tho. ---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? Yes! I'd love some motivation,
lol. I feel like my creativity needs some resuscitation :-P.
Any other comments: Hmm...not that I can think of right now :)
What should we call you? I answer to a few things but, for the most part, you can't go wrong with either Jessica, Jess or stress. Or Bob.
Give us a fun fact: When I was 13 (man, I feel old...), I actually slept out on the streets of New York with my mom and my friend. (I got to meet *NSync out of it - it was
quite the experience.) Penname (on FFN): stress Favorite newsie: I wonder if there is anyone here who knows me that doesn't know the answer to this question... Anywho, for the record, its Jack.
Favorite line in the movie: "So how come you brought the rope?" ---
Favorite (published) author(s): JK Rowling, Eoin Colfer, Diana Wynne Jones, Robin McKinley, Lemony Snicket... Favorite (published) book(s): The Harry Potter books, The Artemis Fowl books, Howl's Moving Castle, Spindle's End, Wicked...
Favorite quote: " If there is no God, who pops up the next Kleenex? " -- ART HOPPE ---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Oh, I've tons. Everyone on my ff.net faves list plus quite a few that I'm too lazy to add.
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "Real Love" by Rogue, "Epic" by Keza, "In New York" by Falco, "Glass Houses" by Brunette, "V-Tones" by flashing light, "Boy Anachronism" by Raven's Wing... and a ton more, too. I can't even think right now.
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read - Comedy, drama, angst, supernatural. To write - comedy, drama, angst, supernatural ;) To be honest, I'm never really sure how to classify anything that I write and, since I like the sorts of fics I write... I'm pretty much game for anything.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!)
Considering that I'm soooo close to the end, I have to do it. I have to recomend Diabo:
It's super long but... yeah. Had to do it ;) Fanfic pet peeve: It's a toss up between the bad accent and entirely OOC portrayals of canon characters.
RP? Yeah, not so much. ---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? Very much so. I was a member the first time around (not that I remember or anything - my brain is so shot) but I can't wait to see how well it works now.
Any other comments: Woot! And, just to add, the "Getting to Know You" lyrics from The King and I has been stuck in my head for days, thanks to these subject lines ;)
What should we call you?: I've always gone by Sinhe in this fandom, which is funny because almost everyone else calls me Maddy. Either is fine with me.

confess that I haven't read in this fandom in a long time, and should probably
go back and reread stuff.
I can't help it,
I tend to like the darker side to things. I do like romance and humor and gen
and just about everything else, but angst is what really gets me.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): I don't really like any
of the stories I wrote for this fandom, mostly because they were written so long
ago that I find them kind of hard to look at. Sorry? Whatever, I guess I'll put
up the most recent one - It Figures (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2196082/1/)
Fanfic pet peeve: I have so many, which is part of why I can't look at some of
the stuff I wrote without laughing. Unlikely characterizations, character
bastardization, really really thick New York accents (which I am totally guilty
of, but really, that was a long time ago! And I realized how annoying it was
before the end of the fic, ahahahah.) I'm also, specific to this fandom, kind of
sick of unoriginal plots, and how often the Newsies appear in modern times.
Also, original female characters, just because they aren't done well often
enough to make me want to read any of them.
RP?: I have before, quite a bit, actually. Haven't really done it recently,
though.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? : Sure thing!
Any other comments: Uh? Just that I haven't written for this fandom in forever,
I guess. Seriously, so long.
What should we call you?: KahleenErin or Legallyred.
Give us a fun fact: My shoes are leopard print peeptoes from target. And they show off my adorable pedi. (I sound so valley girl...ha)
Penname (on FFN): Legallyred
Favorite newsie: Jack Kelly. Duh.
Favorite line in the movie: "No, we're just a bunch of angry kids with no money!"
---
Favorite (published) author(s): JK Rowling, William Golding, Emily Bronte, Oscar Wilde, JRR Tolkein, KA Applegate, Gregory MacGuire, James Joyce, William Goldman, Eoin Colfer, JM Barrie, etc etc
Favorite (published) book(s): Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Lord of the Flies, Wuthering Heights, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wicked, Confessions of an Ugly StepSister, The Princess Bride, Peter Pan, Artemis Fowl, Animorphs, etc etc etc
Favorite quote: "I don't think well. I don't speak well. But I dress to KILL!" - Galinda (Wicked)
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): newsiesmoseph, dreamlessmermaid, jsumptersgrl, BC Daily
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): anything by the above
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read?: Humor and romance
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): cigarette [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3402011/1/] needs love, but There's Been Some Confusion Over Rooming [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2481825/1/] is my pride and joy
Fanfic pet peeve: Poor grammar. I understand the typos, because that happens to me, but poor grammar is just sad when the site is for writing.
RP?: just when I write.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge?: Yes. I really missed it, yo.
Any other comments: I'm pretty much awesome. I can't lie. :)
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.
What should we call you?: I've always gone by Sinhe in this fandom, which is funny because almost everyone else calls me Maddy. Either is fine with me.
Give us a fun fact: I am a week and a half away from finishing my second year of college. Scary, huh?
Penname (on FFN): Sinhe
Favorite newsie: Dutchy. Always. Despite that Swifty/Bumlets is my favorite pairing. Oh well, whatever.
Favorite line in the movie: Probably, "So'd I spell it right Kloppman? Strike." Because really? It's Dutchy's only line, and I'm nothing if not biased.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman, Lynn Flewelling, David Mitchell, Dennis L. McKiernen. A whole lot more.
Favorite (published) book(s): The Onion Girl, American Gods, Watchmen (which, while it is a graphic novel, is actually considered a novel), The Sparrow, Otherland. A lot that I am forgetting at the moment.
Favorite quote: I don't really have a favorite quote, so much. I am, however, obsessed with song lyrics. So have some of those: "there once was a time I was sure of the bond/ when my hands and my tongue and my thoughts were enough/ we are the same but our lives move along/ and the third one between replaces what once was love" ---

Any other comments: Uh? Just that I haven't written for this fandom in forever, I guess. Seriously, so long.
Give us a fun fact: ummm....I took a tap dancing class about a year ago. It was so awesome!
Penname (on FFN): Dimonah Tralon
Favorite newsie: It changes. Right now it's Racetrack.
Favorite line in the movie: Hey Jack, you done thinkin' yet?
---
Favorite (published) author(s): Margaret Mitchell, Mary Higgans Clark, Sue Grafton, John Grisham, Gerald R. Lund
Favorite (published) book(s): Gone with the Wind (by far my favorite!), The New Rebellion (a Star Wars story), anything written by the mentioned above authors.
Favorite quote: "It's better to be respected than it is to be popular. Popularity ends on yearbook day, but respect lasts forever." --John Bytheway (an LDS youth speaker) ---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): There are way too many to name. Check out my profile if you really want to know.
Favorite
(fanfiction) story(ies): See answer to previous question.
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read?: Romance! I'm not so good at writing it--I'm more of a fun, easy-going story writer.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): Hmmm...how about Turbulent Waters? http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2204486/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: Everyone in the lodging house is gay. Also when people type in that impossible to read New York accent.
RP?: Only when I'm writing...then it's usually alone in my room.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? : Totally! I had pretty much given up on this group!
Any other comments: I'm sure that two minutes after I send this, I'll think of something completely witty and funny. (Yeah, right)
What should we call you?: Well. Let's see. I've been Shortie in this
fandom since 2002, but a few years I tried to leave that behind and it
didn't work out so well. So yeah, Shortie.
Give us a fun fact: I'm writing this instead of the essay that was due
almost a week ago :/
Penname (on FFN): shortie is back
Favorite newsie: Mush, Mush, Mush, Mush.
Favorite line in the movie: Ever since Keza mentioned it to me
randomly, my favorite line has been Denton's awkward "Is that David as
in David and Goliath?" It makes me giggle just thinking about it.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): I, uh, need to read more.
Favorite (published) book(s): Seriously, I know it's awful. I've just
gotten so busy with school and stuff that I've stopped reading. And I
know I do have favorite books and authors... it's just that I can't
think of them right now okay next question.
Favorite quote: "I'd rather be nine people's favorite thing than a
hundred people's ninth favorite thing"'Nine people's favorite
thing'-[title of show]
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): The entire NJL. Including (but
nowhere near limited to) Keza, B, Sita, and Nerikla.
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): Everything You've Done Wrong
(Sloanne), But I'm a Prep! (Sita), Epic (Kez), NHS, billions of other
that I don't remember because I've been out of this fandom for way too
long.
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read?: Humor! I used to be all
about the angst, but as it turns out, I'm really not emo enough to
handle all that angst.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): frengers
(http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3430866/1/). It's also about two hours
away from an update right now thanks to Keza Queen of Motivation.
Fanfic pet peeve: Everyone in the lodging house is gay.
RP?: Used to occasionally. I think I would be interested in trying it
out again.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge?: I'd prefer to say I'm stoked.
Any other comments: I'm a pretty cool kid, not gonna lie.
What should we call you? Falco
Give us a fun fact: My favorite words are Rowdy, Tussle and Malarkey
Penname (on FFN): Falco Conlon
Favorite newsie: Spot, along with all the other leigons, although I
also have quite weakness for Swifty, at least I do when Keza writes
him. Skittery, because Goorjian is just so bangable.
Favorite line in the movie: Spot Conlon: Your honor, I object.
Judge Monahan: On what grounds?
Spot Conlon: On the grounds of Brooklyn, your honor.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): Tim O'Brien, Joan Didion, Kurt
Vonnegut, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Berkley Breathed, Jack Kerouac, John
Steinbeck, John Irving, Jonathan Safran Foer, Philip Pullman, Virginia
Woolf, Dave Berry, Monica Wood, Madeleine L'engle Zadie Smith, JRR

(Marion Zimmer Bradley), Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison), Windblown
World (Jack Kerouac), Cider House Rules, Extemely Loud and Incredibley
Closer, 1984, A Wrinkle in Time...etc etc etc
Favorite quote: "I want a blaze of light to flame in me forever in a
timeless, dear love of everything. And why should I pretend to want
anything else? After all I am no cabbage, no carrot, no stem! A
burning eye! A mind of fire! A broken golden rod! A man! A woman! A
SOUL! Fuck the rest, I say, and PROCEED!" - Jack Kerouac, a Windblown
World
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Raeghann, Keza, B...
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "Through the Hourglass" - Raeghann,
"How I Spent my Summer Vacation" - B, "Everything You've Done Wrong" -
Sloan
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read? I'll read pretty much
anything. I'm best at dramatic stories...because I'm kind of a
dramatic person...
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!) Hahhaa, I have
about three to choose from and one of them isn't Newsies. How about:
In New York - http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3390683/1/
It's complete and I'm very proud of it.
Fanfic pet peeve: I'd say out of canon...but honestly, with characters
like this it's easy to not know what's canon and what isn't. I guess
historical inaccuracies kind of bug me. A real annoyance is just when
people don't take any pride in their work, just sort of slap whatever
they want together because they think since it's fanfiction, it
doesn't have to have any sort of quality.
RP? Aha. Hahahahahahahahahaaaa...heh. Yeah. A lot.
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? SO excited. I am going to be
spending all of May just writing (no school or anything! Woo!) but I'm
still going to try and churn things out every so often. Keep me
writing, Keza, that's all I ask of you.
Any other comments: Ummm...read In New York?
Love
Falco
Random: Skye- I loved that quote!
What should we call you? Call me Muchacha (if you
don't have any idea about Spanish, that's roughly
pronounced moo-chaw-chaw)
Give us a fun fact: I can't read music, but I can
write it. O_o
Penname (on FFN): Harmony Remarc
Favorite newsie: The usual: Spot, and the unusual:
David
Favorite line in the movie: (from OaFA) Five thousand
fists in the sky, five thousand reasons to
try...better to die than to crawl.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): I've seen so many
that I've enjoyed. It's more difficult to name an
author I didn't like.
Favorite (published) book(s): Ditto as above. Gimme
a book, I'll tell you if A) I read it, B) I liked it,
or C) Hand it over and let me devour it.
Favorite quote: I always knew that looking back on my
tears would make me laugh, but I didn't know that
looking back on my laughter would make me cry. --Cat
Stevens
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s)/Favorite (fanfiction)
story(ies): If you're that interested, check my FF
site- there are way to many to list in such a short
email.
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read?: it
depends on the day. Sometimes, it's het romance,
sometimes humor, sometimes drama. To write- again, it
depends on my mood. I've written funny, serious,
love... No slash though, either read/write. It kind
of weirds me out reading movie characters in that
style.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you
can!)
Night in the Rain:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3468994/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: New York dialect, period. An
occasional speech pattern (gonna, thinkin', etc...) is
alright, but it gives me a headache pokin' t'rough da
t'ings dat make da New Yawk sawnd.
Also, stories that haven't been finished in five
years, but were really good. If they were meh-ish, I
can deal, but there are some where I want to find the
author and smack 'em until they write again.
RP? Nope. Never tried. Don't think I'd have the
time.

Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? Woot! Let's
roll!
Any other comments: Annnnndddddddd.... ACTION!

Favorite newsie: Definitely Bumlets :-)
Favorite line in the movie: "You remember that hot tip

Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): In all honesty its
been a long time since I last read a Newsies FF. I'm
planning to get back into it this summer (ie. next
week). As a result of it being quite some time, I'm
not certain who my favorites are anymore.
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): Again, its been a
long time. However, I remember liking: Everything
You've Done Wrong, But I'm a Prep, Angels of Sin,
Demons of Virtue and...that is all I can remember.
Favorite genre to read? To write? I tend to favor
stories with a little bit of angst and romance. Good
dry humor is always a plus as well. I also rarely
read non-slash for fear of the Mary-Sue.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3163087/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: I have a few, but I know I won't be
able to think of them because you asked, lol. For
some reason the only one that comes to mind is when
canon character names are misspelled more than once
(Once, is forgivable as 'Everyone's human'). This
goes for places and anything else canon.
RP? Yes. Not so much on AIM but on boards and such.

Fanfic pet peeve: When there are so many spelling errors in a chapter that you want to go to the writer's home and show them where the spell check option is at.
RP? Not really. I would be willing to try, though I've never really done it before. It sounds like fun! :D

Favorite quote: `Life can be cruel, especially for the very uncool'

Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): Ohmigawsh this's gonna take forever…
Keeping the Dream Alive by JulesReveire (very first fanfic I ever
read. I'm not really sure why, though…), Build Me Up, Buttercup by
Tabloid (What started my Swiftlets!OTP /!obsession <3), Don't Ask Me
Why by FriskyWallabee, Sold by Mondie (Ohmigawsh. Best angsty!
Swiftlets scene like, ever), again, it would take me FOREVER to list
all my favorites, so I'll stop here.
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read, I love humor, and, er,
general o_0 And slash. Yeeeeeah. I think I write pretty much the same
thing…

Fanfic pet peeve: Eh…I dunno, I'm kinda a grammar Nazi, so if anyone
uses `your' instead of `you're', or `to' instead of `too', it irks
me. (It's also how I judge whether or not I'm going to read a fic =D)
RP? Heck. YES.

What should we call you? Dippy, please :)
Give us a fun fact: I'm afraid of revolving doors...
Penname (on FFN): Dippy Conlon (obligatory disclaimer: I was young(er) when I
made it up and really am not a fangirl)
Favorite newsie: Spot from the beginning, but I've recently developed a bit of a
crush on Skittery.
Favorite line in the movie: Hmmm... It might have to be "Did I spell it right,
Kloppman?" for two reasons: it's adorable and it shows a desire to use proper
spelling and grammar, which I give two thumbs up.
---
Favorite (published) author(s): Oscar Wilde. I would end there out of respect
for my absolute favorite, but there are so many other good ones that need
mentioning, so I'll go on.
Marcel Proust (makes me incredibly jealous every time I read him)
Kurt Vonnegut
Federico Garcia Lorca (amazing poetry)
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Shakespeare (I'm not just saying that - I have an unhealthy addiction to
Hamlet and have read it five times and counting)
Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead because, much as I love
Shakespeare, I take him with a grain of salt and the same with Stoppard, really)
Joseph Heller (I've been reading Good as Gold and giggling madly to
myself...)
Lemony Snicket (I practically worship him)
I'll cut myself off here :)
Favorite (published) book(s): Picture of Dorian Gray (I can hardly even talk
about it, but it will make you wish that Wilde wrote more prose because it's
beautiful)
Peter Pan
Hamlet
Series of Unfortunate Events
A Clockwork Orange (I was excited to see that other people had read it :) )
Slaughterhouse Five
I guess I'll stop there
Favorite quote: I don't do favorite quotes :) I just feel like everything
sounds cheesy when it's taken out of its context. it can be the most brilliant,
least cheesy thing in the world, but taken on its own, it sounds cheesy. Maybe
it's because of my love for Oscar Wilde, the source of tons of (misused) quotes.
---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Raven's Wing, RiotAct, I don't know. I don't
read as much Newsies fanfic as I should because of Mary Sues, really.
Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): Just about anything by Raven's Wing, Going
Home by RiotAct. Um, same as above
Favorite genre to read? To write? To read? I read just about anything, but I
generally avoid Newsies romance, not because I don't like it, but because I'm
afraid of the Mary Sues.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!) Um, well "Can Love
Overcome Stink?" is my most recent Newsies one and it makes me smile, so there
you go: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3287322/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: Mary Sues, historical inaccuracy (girls in pants, homosexual
couples encountering NO prejudice, current slang, etc.), accents, poor
grammar/spelling, Sarah bashing, alcoholic!Spot, womanizer!Spot, the list just
goes on and on and on :)
RP? I've never done it before.

Uh, kind of angsty stuff or really general stuff for the most part. More slash as of late. Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!) Oh god, I haven't updated or written a newsies fic in forever. Let's stick with Last Chance which I actually hope to get back into and finish one day. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1547838/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: Oh, this is another list that could get very long. I hate obvisouly unedited stuff, horrible grammar, internet speak/language, out of character newises, the all-powerful Mary Sue, and when people overuse quotes from the movie. I also hate generally bad and overused storylines. RP? Not for Newsies. RENT at Alphabet City.

Give us a fun fact: My favorite drink is a Kamakazi on the rocks. (Said drink is also why I was late to work this morning...) Penname (on FFN): studentnumber24601 Favorite newsie: Definitely Blink, but goodness knows I adore David and Racetrack, too .
Favorite line in the movie: "You remember that hot tip I told you about? ...Nobody told the horse." ---
Favorite (published) author(s): Connie Willis, Bruce Coville, Douglas Adams Favorite (published) book(s): A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson), Last Chance To See (Douglas Adams), Bellwether (Connie Willis) Favorite quote: "If you'll admit that you were wrong, then we'll admit that we're right." -Sloan (Money City Maniacs) ---
Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): Um, gosh. Angel of Harmony, Shimmerwings, Poison Ivory, Misprint, Mondie, Second Batgirl, Arlene2, Hilby...just to name a few. ;) Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): "Vaudeville!" by Hilby, "Standing Alone" (and everything else) by Arlene2, "It Just Won't Quit" by Misprint, "(Imagine A) Brown Leather Wallet" by Shimmerwings Favorite genre to read? To write? Uh, let's face it...Light-hearted humor with plenty of dialogue, and a fair amount of slash. Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!) Oh, gosh. This is a toughie. But I'll go with the epic-and-unfinished (but close to the end!) How I Spent My Summer Vacation: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1332047/1/ Fanfic pet peeve: Only one?! How about two... The technical one is improperly punctuated dialogue. It makes me CRAZY when people get that wrong! Less technically...still hard to narrow it down...when characters are vastly out-of-character and it's supposed to be funny. Sorry, but sugar highs and yelling random quotes/in-jokes isn't comedy, it's just irritating. RP? Not so much, no. (Once upon a time I did in an LJ RPG...also named Donnelly, oddly...but that was a long time ago.)
---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? Well, duh. I'm super busy, though, so I don't know how much writing I'll be able to do from it...but I'm excited to see what everyone else comes up with! ;)
Any other comments: Just my usual plug: Fanfic101: A Guide to NOT writing terrible fanfiction. Technical information about punctuation and grammar and whatnot; stylistic information about POV and tenses and all that good stuff.

genre to read? To write? I like to read and write the same sorts of stories, on the extreme ends of the epic and everyday. I like revenge and justice and hardcore characters, but I also like the lighter side of the boys and the simple things they do.
Recommend us one of your stories... (link, if you can!): "Just Another Day" is the one most likely to ever be updated...http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3185563/1/
Fanfic pet peeve: Really, things that seem like they didn't have any heart put into them at all. I can get over bad plot lines/characters/stories in general if it seems like the author really cared about what they were writing.
RP? Oh man, I haven't RPed in years. So no. ---
Are you excited about NewsieChallenge? I am actually! I'm hoping to actually write something!
Any other comments: LET'S DO IT. Yessss. All right, I'm pumped.
What should we call you? People have known be by Stage for a long time,
but you can call me Emily, if you prefer that.

going to college with plans to get my doctorate after completing my BA.)
Penname (on FFN): Stage

Favorite (published) author(s): Kevin Brockmeier, Jasper Fforde, Douglas
Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Dorothy Parker, Roald Dahl, and many more.
Favorite (published) book(s): The Brief History of the Dead, Time
Traveler’s Wife (oh yes, Kez.You made

Deadeye Dick, Le Petit Prince, Ya-Ya Sisterhood, A Clockwork Orange, the short stories of Roald Dahl as well as his childrens books, the list goes on and on…
Favorite quote: many, but these are three of my favorites:
"All men and women are born, live suffer and die; what distinguishes us one from another is our dreams, whether they be dreams about worldly or unworldly things ,and what we do to make them come about... We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live."
[Joseph Epstein]
"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
[James D. Nicoll]
AND...
"“They were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, of whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
[The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.]

Favorite (fanfiction) author(s): pennylayne, RedRogue, love97, nuclearxkid, theingenue Favorite (fanfiction) story(ies): “As Seen Through Smoke” is pretty much my fav ever. Favorite genre to read? I’ve dabbled in romances and general fics,
but I’m still exploring my options.
Recommend us one of your stories... Oh, and I wrote it 3 or 4 years ago. Yikes. Fanfic pet peeve: Writing in an awful New York accent. RP? Occasionally on message boards, but that's it.

Okay, that's it for now. :) The first "official" challenge will come on Friday; in the meantime, continue to spread the word about the group!
Hello all. Welcome to NewsieChallenge! I'm Keza (aka Queen Kez the Wicked) and I will be your guide today.
NewsieChallenge was created in the summer of 2004, when I had just finished a long story and didn't know what to do with myself. With over 60 members, the group took off and was a lot of fun for a few months. Unfortunately, I became very busy and wasn't smart enough to pass the torch to someone else, so the group kind of faded away. Time to bring it back, I say!
The purpose of NewsieChallenge is to get everyone writing. The basic idea is this: there are "official" weekly challenges, which I send out. These come in many forms. You have as much time as you want to write something (or nothing, if you're not inspired) in response to the prompt. Members are encouraged to post "unofficial" challenges whenever they want.
Challenge responses can be posted anywhere (like FFN) but we also have our own fic archive where I would REALLY like people to post their challenge responses. We'll get into that later.
So, that's the idea. Intrigued? Good! Spread the word. Now, here are the specifics...
Let's do this in the form of question/answer, shall we?
Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T DO A CHALLENGE? A. Nothing. You may find yourself doing every challenge, or you may just do one or two whenever you have the time. No one is going to punish you. It's completely your decision.
Q. WHAT DO CHALLENGES LOOK LIKE? A. They come in many forms. A challenge may be "write about betrayal." Or, it could be "write exactly 1,000 words that is entirely the dialogue of an argument." Or, "Write a fic that begins with someone hanging up a phone, and ends with someone picking up a phone." Or, "Pick 3 of the 6 mentioned characters, 2 of the 5 listed quotes, 6 of these 20 objects, and write a humorous story involving..." etc. The possibilities are endless, my friend.
Q. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WRITE THE CHALLENGE? A. As long as you want. Maybe a challenge inspires a 100,000 word story in you. Well, that's gonna take awhile, but good for you! Maybe you want to try and do every single challenge, which means that you have about a week.
Q. WHAT DO I DO WITH MY FINISHED, CHALLENGE-INSPIRED FIC? A. Post it. Studentnumber24601/B was kind enough to create a Challenge category on the fic archive "One Voice United" (
http://onevoice.queenitsy.com/archive). PLEASE go over there, create an account, and post your challenge responses on that site. Why? Because then we have them all in one place! You are welcome to additionally post your fics on FFN, of course. But please post them both places (or at least One Voice United). That way, they are easy to find, and anyone can read all the challenges at once, etc.
Q. HOW DOES THIS EMAIL THING WORK? A. The group is set at "reply-to-group," which means that when you hit reply, the whole group will see what you post. Please remember this and remember to reply-to-sender with personal comments. Other than that, group discussion is encouraged!
Advertising. Advertising is allowed for the following: -Casting Calls -Requests for beta readers -Announcements for fic contests and challenges -Plugging for sites, LJ communities, archives, MySpace groups, msg boards, etc, that pertain to Newsies FANFICTION
Advertising is NOT allowed for: -Fanfiction Updates
The exception is if you post a link to your challenge response. For example, I could not send a plug to the group for my story "Epic," but I could send a plug to the group about the fic I just wrote in response to a challenge. 'Cause it's group related.
Q. ANYTHING ELSE? A. I don't think so, but I know more stuff will come up. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Either send them to the group, or contact me.
Remember to spread the word! The more people involved, the more fun it is! :)
