Actually, for me, there's really no specific place. Sometimes I'll think of an idea when I'm reading another fanfic, reading a book, or watching a movie, but other times I'll just be lying in my bed, and an idea will pop into my head saying 'WRITE ME! WRITE ME!'. Then I usually have to write it down, because obnoxious ideas get annoying after awhile.
