No sound. It's silent Super-8 footage.

Welcome! And thanks so much for sharing your experience with us.

Class cancelled on account of Jarmusch. That's great.

I saw Jarmusch at Columbia College in Chicago - 12/03. He screened Mystery
Train
and then spoke and took questions for about 30 minutes. He was great. A
student
asked about what he thought about having "conflict" in film to move the
narrative. JJ
replied by saying that he hated conflict. He doesn't like conflict in his
films. The
student again asked if it was necessary to move the plot. He said, "I don't."
The
whole room was silent for what seemed like a long time. He also said that he
owns
every film negative and it is sitting at his house in a freezer--I paraphrase,
but I am
sure that was his tone. It was a great exerience. I had a shoot set up in my
Lighting
Class that day and it was cancelled because he was going to speak--and because
everyone ditched class (ha)--but it was worth it. I shot my project a week
later. He
was in town to guest host at the Movieside Film Festival in Chicago @ The
Biograph
Theater. He showed a short, "Int.-Night-Trailer and Down By Law. Anyway, I'm
new
here. Thanks for the site. Best,

Interesting bit from this ( http://www.itechnology.co.za/index.php?
click_id=3&art_id=qw1074588482855N234&set_id=1 ) article on "The Last
Samurai":

"Jim Jarmusch, the indie director who's so cool he's frozen, began
the American fetish for this culture a few years ago with his movie
Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai. It's the everyday story of a New York
hitman who lives by the ancient Samurai code. Soon after the film's
success, Samurai textbooks became best sellers and now Mr Top Gun
himself is slashing his way to a movie house near you."

Hey guys, goto videoeta.com, they tell movies release dates, there
is one for Coffee And Cigarrettes, saying it comes out in July of
2004. The dvd cast list has all the people that he made a coffee
and cigarrettes with so apparently its the complete collection, this
is great for me as I have wanted to see them for a really long
time. Anyone with any info on this please post it.

Jarmusch's take on Casablanca ... or Roman Holiday would no doubt be
amusing.

Good point about the linear map of the movie. He also manages to cage
the essence of the Hagakure, which meanders across the pages, no
particular destination to speak of ...

Love Jarmusch in general, but have become inexorably addicted to
Ghost Dog ... the blending of the real & surreal - the fusion of
ancient & modern ...

plus the soundtrack & acting.

Any fans of JJ's take on Bushido?

"Music is the most beautiful form of _expression," says filmmaker Jim
