The first "rant" TV spot in a series promoting
new magazine ifcRant shows film director Jim
Jarmusch(Night on Earth, Down by Law), and actor Nick Nolte
discussing why they prefer independent films.<br> Jarmusch
admits to liking some big-budget studio fare, but hails
directors whose films "come from their soul." Nolte talks
about how studio-system films pigeonhole actors, who
may repeat the types of roles that brought them
success.<br> "Some [actors] will say, 'This is what I went to
Juilliard for,' " Nolte sneers. "Well, they don't teach
action acting at Juilliard, and theydon't teach action
acting at The Actors Studio."<br> The spot, along with
others in the series, was created in-house by the
Independent Film Channel; the first commercial breaks later
this month on the cable station. A joint venture
between IFC and indieWire, a news service covering
independent films, ifcRant hit newsstands earlier this month.
