you can now officially call me Dr. :) Took me about 2 months,

Hello sir/mam,
We are launching a website called www.filmaka.com. It's about
films. It will give
you a great experience and it can also become you a prize winner
person. If you are
interested in films then it will help you in your job.
the comparisons with ozu were because of the cinematography and editing in
maboroshi, the way he frames his shots and the way takes begin early or end
late. maboroshi reminded me more of _tess_ and some of mizoguchi's stuff than
ozu, but he was the one who got mentioned in the reviews; all ive seen of his is
o-hayou, and there wasnt much similarity that i saw.

Thanks both of you for your responses.
I already knew his website and richie's book Nate, but I did not
thought to Rebecca and "Una pura formalitą", I did not see this film
yet, thank you for your suggestions. Thank you too for your
bibliographic indications, it is going to help me.
About Ozu, French critics did not do such a comparison and you seem
to know a lot about it Nate: might you be more explicit. Personnaly,
I hardly see a kind of link between them, except about there
conception of the family.
The best interview I find by myself is linked with a site Nate

Hi,
There's a longer article about Koreeda in an issue of Film Comment from 1999,
but
I'm not sure which one, right now. Also an article by Tony Rains in Sight and
Sound
from the same year. I'll let you know, if I find more. Have you tried posting
on the
KineJapan mailing list? -> http://pears.lib.ohio-state.edu/Markus/

ive got some english links here:
http://www.artofeurope.com/koreeda/
there's a review of after life in the new _Film Quarterly_ thats not really
worth reading. the only thing i got out of it that i didnt get out of the
reviews contemporaneous to after life was that koreeda had planned a "fantastic
voyage" feature where he shrinks down and goes inside his body to cue him of
alzheimer's. sight and sound did something when after life came out. i'll run
through the MLA bibliography, let you know what turns up.
how did you get his documentaries from TV Man U? I'd be willing to write a
publish-or-perish piece for a peer-reviewed journal to get my hands on them.
also... there's three films and a music video on the filmography at my page that
arent on yr list. i wasnt willing to pay 60 euros for the complete cocco
collection dvd and could never find a chinese pirate of it. "this life" is an
8mm collaboration with kawase naomi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawase_Naomi),
daremo shirani is his new feature (http://www.kore-eda.com/features.htm) and the
third one i dont know, it's on his JMDb listing.
best,
nate
ps i'd be interested in reading at least a treatment of yr thesis. i could set
my francophone sister onto translating the whole thing. ;)

Hello everyone,
I am a french student working on Koreeda for my thesis. I have his
free fiction films and four documentaries (but I can not send them to
you, I promized it to TV Man Unionc Inc. ;) )
It is often difficult for me to find english articles about him from
France, especially about his documentary and his situation into
contemporary japanese films (I just find the book by Mark Schilling :
http://www.midnighteye.com/books/contemporary-japanese-
film_encyclopedia-of-japanese-pop-culture.shtml ).
So, if you have any kind of information about him, do not hesitate,
even if it is just about his fiction. Thanks by advance.
