MURPHY, DE NIRO TOGETHER IN 'SHOWTIME'?
According to Variety, Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro are in
talks to jump on Village Roadshow Pictures project called
"Showtime." The story tells of a no-nonsense veteran cop who is
ordered to join a showboating rookie to be stars on a
reality-based TV show about a big city police department. No
start date has been set.

AZARIA NEGOTIATING FOR 'SWEETHEARTS' ROLE
Hank Azaria is negotiating to replace troubled actor Robert
Downey Jr. as Catherine Zeta-Jones' lover in the ensemble comedy
"America's Sweethearts." The film will begin shooting in early
January and with Downey facing a late-December court date that
could put him behind bars again in the light of his recent drugs
bust, "America's Sweethearts" had little choice but to move on.

CASTING FOR 'MATRIX' SEQUEL
Variety reports that Jada Pinkett-Smith has officially signed on
board the project, weeks after word that she was in talks. In
addition, the trade reports that the producers are also in talks
with Aaliyah (Romeo Must Die, Queen of the Damned), Harold
Perrineau, Jr. and Harry Lennex to join the cast of the two
films.

COURTNEY LOVE IN 'SUCKERS'
Singer-actress Courtney Love will get to perform some rowdy
turn-of-the-century tunes: she has inked a deal to star in "Hello
Suckers," a biopic about Hollywood screen legend Texas Guinan.
"Hello Suckers'' unravels the life of the turn-of-the-century
mistress of reinvention, Texas Guinan, who suckered her way up
the ladder from showgirl to Broadway star, from the silent screen
to nightclub queen.

'DONT SAY A WORD' CASTING
Famke Janssen ("X-Men") has been cast as Michael Douglas' wife in
the Gary Fleder-directed action-thriller "Don't Say a Word" for
New Regency and 20th Century Fox. The project is scheduled to
start shooting today. Based on Andrew Klavan's novel of the same
name, "Word" is about a New York psychiatrist (Douglas) who is
forced to treat a mentally unstable patient with a violent past
(Brittany Murphy) to secure the freedom of his kidnapped
daughter.

HUSTON EYES 'TENENBAUMS'
Anjelica Huston is in early negotiations to join the cast of the
Walt Disney Co.'s "The Royal Tenenbaums" for director Wes
Anderson. Shooting is scheduled to begin in mid-February in New
York. Huston would join a high profile ensemble cast that
includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Gene Hackman, Ben Stiller, brothers
Owen and Luke Wilson and Bill Murray. "Tenenbaums" centers on a
dysfunctional family of five geniuses who live under the same
roof in New York even as adults. Huston would play the mother of
the Tenenbaum family who also wrote a book on parenting, "Family
of Geniuses." Hackman plays the estranged father who is trying to
reconcile with the family. Paltrow plays the adopted daughter of
the family. The brothers are played by Stiller and Luke Wilson.
Murray plays Paltrow's husband, and Owen Wilson plays a friend of
the family.

'GOONIES' SEQUEL
Have you heard the rumours that there will be a "Goonies" sequel?
Well, it seems goonies2.com has been purchased by Warner Bros.,
although there is nothing up on the site.

'NIGHTMARE CREATURES'
Le Studio Canal have acquired the rights to the computer game
"Nightmare Creatures", a story set in 17th century London about
an unorthodox doctor who creates a brood of monsters that invade
the city. "Dinosaur" director Ralph Zondag will helm it once he
finishes work on "Raised by Ghosts", while scribe Matt Cirulnick
("Total Recall 2," "Hell Hole") will adapt the feature.

YET ANOTHER VIDEO GAME COMING TO THE BIG SCREEN
Reports are that the Electronic Arts game "American McGee's
Alice" is coming to the big screen. The company has finished 10
months of negotiations with Dimension Films to do this dark and
twisted version of the classic "Alice in Wonderland" tale and
unlike "Resident Evil", the movie will follow the game's plot
closely. "Scream" Director Wes Craven will helm it.

ROGERS TO DIRECT 'AMERICAN PIE' SEQUEL
Targeting a February start date, Universal has hired J.B. Rogers
to direct the sequel to its teen comedy hit "American Pie," as
the studio begins negotiations to bring back a cast that includes
Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth, Mena
Suvari and Eugene Levy. The sequel has been scripted by Adam
Herz, who wrote the original. The directors of that first raunchy
comedy, Chris and Paul Weitz, will produce the sequel with Chris
Moore and Warren Zide.

KLEMPERER DEAD AT 80
Werner Klemperer, the German-born actor best known as the
bumbling Nazi Col. Klink in the 1960s television sitcom
"Hogan's Heroes," has died at the age of 80.

TINA TURNER WRAPS FAREWELL TOUR
Rock 'n' roll survivor Tina Turner gave her saucy leather oufits
one last workout Wednesday as she played the final show of her
farewell tour. Turner, who turned 61 two weeks ago, had announced
in June that she would leave the road after 44 years because she
did not want to get to the point where her stage antics were no
longer dignified.

SUIT AGAINST DICAPRIO GETS GO-AHEAD
A Manhattan appeals court has given the go-ahead to a $45 million
lawsuit against "Titanic" actor Leonardo DiCaprio for his alleged
role in a street fight over actress Elizabeth Berkley. DiCaprio,
26, and several others were sued by Roger Wilson, 41, who says
the film star encouraged friends to attack Wilson on March 4,
1998. Wilson, a screenwriter and actor, says he was beat up
outside the Asia de Cuba restaurant when he confronted DiCaprio's
friends about advances made toward Berkley, his girlfriend, on
DiCaprio's behalf.

MARY TYLER MOORE SUED
DiCaprio is not the only one being sued at the moment. Mary Tyler
Moore has found herself being sued by her landscaper who was
recently fired. Anibal Garcia, 38, claims he was fired from
Moore's 123-acre estate in upstate New York because he is
Hispanic and because he complained about a co-worker's racist
remarks. Although Moore and her husband, Robert Levine, were not
the ones who fired Garcia, he said they failed to take any action
on his complaints or his dismissal.

ROSIE CONSIDERS LAW SCHOOL
Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell is planning to get her law degree,
and could begin taking classes as early as 2002 if she doesn't
renew her TV contract, which expires then, US Weekly reported in
its Dec. 18 issue. Rosie's goal is to work really seriously in
trying to change foster care legislation in America.

D'ONOFRIO EYES 'CRIMINAL INTENT'
"Full Metal Jacket" star Vincent D'Onofrio is close to sealing a
deal to star in producer Dick Wolf's third "Law & Order" series,
"Criminal Intent." D'Onofrio will star as a senior detective with
training in psychology who's an expert at unraveling complex
cases.

'FRONTIER HOUSE' TO FILM IN MONTANA
Mixing a little of CBS's "Survivor" with its own "1900 House,"
PBS is launching a series out of Montana that will give three
hearty groups the chance to live the lives of settlers. Called
"Frontier House," the six-part series will follow three groups as
they fend for themselves in the primitive conditions of the
1800s - without modern appliances, grocery stores or even
plumbing. Unlike "Survivor," in which one participant left the
tropical island $1 million richer, this show doesn't pay.

SABATO JR. STARS IN 'ANGLE'
Pearson Television, continuing to pump up its syndicated
action-hour slate, has unveiled plans for an Antonio Sabato Jr.
starring series, "Lean Angle," centered on the high-speed world
of professional motorcycle racing.

PRODUCTION HALTS ON 'SNOW'
The USA Network confirmed Wednesday that it had halted production
on its original movie "Who Killed Sue Snow?" the day before
Thanksgiving, five days before filming was to begin in Vancouver
because the subject matter was too dangerous. The movie, which
was to star Katey Sagal, concerned the 1986 deaths of two Seattle
residents after they ingested Excedrin laced with cyanide. It was
the first time in the network's history that such a drastic step
was taken. "USA Network and its advertisers agreed that it would
be in the public's best interest to stop production of this
movie," USA Network spokesman Ron Sato said. "Even the slightest
chance of somebody committing a copycat crime would be shirking
our public responsibilities.

on Klump's efforts to woo a new university professor, Denise
