CONAN RETURNS
Warner Bros. is developing a new Conan the Barbarian flick to be
written and directed by John Milius, the helmer behind the
original 1982 Arnold Schwarzenegger film. WWF champ The Rock was
approached to play the title role, but he had already committed
to topline The Scorpion King, an action film based on his
character in The Mummy 2. Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, reportedly
may appear in the update in some capacity.
HEAVENLY DEBUT FOR ANGELS
The big screen remake of Charlie's Angels - starring Cameron
Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Bill Murray - karate-chopped
its way to the top of the box office over the weekend, grossing
an estimated $40.5 million. The film's blockbuster opening pushed
Meet the Parents out of the No. 1 spot, a position it held for
the last four weeks. The Robert De Niro comedy slipped to No. 2
with $13.1 million. Robert Redford's feel-good golf drama The
Legend of Bagger Vance - which received lukewarm reviews from
critics - opened at No. 3 with a somewhat disappointing $12
million. Rounding out the top five were Remember the Titans at
No. 4 ($7 million) and the Battlefield Earth of the fall, Book of
Shadows: Blair Witch 2, at No. 5 ($5.3 million). The horror-ble
sequel saw its audience erode by 60 percent from last weekend.
DEPP IS MARLOWE
Johnny Depp has inked a deal to play 16th-century poet and
playwright Christopher Marlowe in the $20 million film, Marlowe.
RUSH HOUR 2 CASTING
John Lone ("The Last Emperor") and Zhang Ziyi ("Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon") have apparently been cast in the sequel to the
Jackie Chan action comedy "Rush Hour".
DEATH TO SMOOCHIE
Hank Azaria is apparently considering signing on to the Danny
DeVito-directed/Robin Williams comedy "Death to Smoochie". Azaria
would play a TV network exec who fires and replaces the
suit-wearing actor in a Barney-like TV show, only for the
original unstable actor to return and try killing the new guy.
Edward Norton and Catherine Keener signed onto the project last
week, with filming expected to begin in January. Azaria will
juggle the role with his commitment to the Lisa Kudrow/Vincent
D'Onofrio comedy "Bark" about a woman who thinks she's a dog.
NO T3 FOR HAMILTON
Linda Hamilton has pulled out of "Terminator 3" despite the
commitment of Arnie and Furlong to the project - "I was asked. I
turned it down. I felt it was more courageous not to do it. I
spent nine years trying to get the image of my Terminator
character out of people's minds. I'm tired of being ever-earnest
and stricken".
FARRELL AND MINORITY
Colin Farrell, a relative unknown until Joel Schumacher cast him
in Tigerland and then Phone Booth, is said to be a leading
candidate to take on what was once Matt Damon's role in the long
in the works Minority Report project. Scheduling problems have
forced Damon out of the Steven Spielberg project. Now, if Farrell
can work the project into his own busy schedule, which also
includes Hart's War with Bruce Willis, he is likely to get the
part. Hart's War starts shooting in January in Prague. Parties
for both War and Report are said to be making an effort to create
scheduling that will allow the actor to be in both projects.
PHONE BOOTH CASTING
Ray Liotta and Ron Eldard have joined Colin Farrell in Joel
Schumacher's Phone Booth project. The film will tell the story of
a man (Farrell) who answers a ringing phone in a booth only to
find there's an assassin on the other end of the line who has a
gun trained at him at that very moment. Should he attempt to exit
the booth, the assassin will strike. Liotta will take on the role
of a police captain who is trying to help the man in the booth by
finding where the killer is nearby. Eldard will play the killer.
In addition, talks are under way to bring Radha Mitchell (Pitch
Black) and Katie Holmes into the production. Meanwhile, shooting
plans for the film have been changed. Originally, production was
going to take place in November, but plans to shoot entirely on
location in New York have been scrapped due to cooling weather.
HOLMES IN ABANDONED
Katie Holmes is on the verge of signing on to star in Paramount
Pictures' psychological horror film, Abandoned. Should she sign
on, Holmes will take on the role of a college undergrad who
starts having visions of an ex-lover who disappeared in her
freshman year at the school. There are also implications that she
may have had something to do with another more recent, very
similar disappearance as well. Ed Zwick (The Siege) is attached
to direct the film. Zwick will also write the film's script with
Stephen Gaghan (Rules of Engagement).
WINSTON'S BABY
Stan Winston Prods. as signed a deal with Revolution Studios to
develop a comedy project that is currently being called "Alien
Baby Project." The project will tell the story of an Earth family
that adopts an alien baby. When the baby reaches puberty, though,
he decides that he wants to become a professional wrestler. James
Orr and Jim Cruickshank (Three Men and a Baby) will write the
film's script.
ROCK IS MR. ETIQUETTE
Chris Rock is being wooed to star in the Miramax flick Mr.
Etiquette, the story of a New York tour guide who tries to win
back his girlfriend by embarking on a crusade to transform the
citys rude residents into respectful citizens.

WHITNEY'S POT FLAP DISMISSED
Whitney Houston is breathing easier after Hawaiian prosecutors
said they would dismiss her marijuana possession charge in three
months, provided she meets certain conditions. Last January,
security at Keahole Kona International Airport found a half an
ounce of weed in Houston's purse. The troubled singer was facing
30 days in jail or a $1,000 fine.
FORD, WIFE LIVING APART
Harrison Ford and his wife of 17 years, screenwriter Melissa
Mathison, are living apart. "We have been living apart for the
past month. We sincerely hope that we can work out our
differences," the couple said in a statement released by Ford's
agent Patricia McQueeney. Ford, 58, and "The Practice" star Lara
Flynn Boyle, 30, have been linked romantically by the National
Enquirer, which photographed the couple drinking champagne at a
New York City club. "It had nothing to do with that. They
separated before that," McQueeney said Tuesday.
STEWART'S BIG PURCHASE
French Stewart is apparently staying put on planet Earth. The 3rd
Rock From the Sun star and his wife, actress Katherine LaNasa,
have plopped down $2 million for a four-bedroom Hollywood Hills
home. The 3,000 square feet pad comes with a media room, sauna,
pool and a spa. LaNasa will appear opposite Vicki Lewis and A.J.
Langer in the upcoming NBC comedy, Three Sisters.
ANOTHER YARD SALE
Oscar winner Nicolas Cage has purchased approximately 400 acres
of land in Malibu canyon for roughly $10 million.
BATTLEFIELD EARTH - THE CARTOON
Japan-based Pine Com International is turning Ron Hubbard's
sci-fi novel Battlefield Earth into a syndicated animated series
to debut as early as spring 2002. It's unclear what effect this
will have on John Travolta's "planned" Battlefield Earth sequel.

AFFLECK SURPRISES ROSIE
Ben Affleck made a surprise Election Day appearance on the
politically charged Rosie O'Donnell Show this morning to urge
viewers to get out and vote. The star of the upcoming romantic
drama Bounce went on to say that he was voting for Democrat Al
Gore for president because "I think my Al Gore imitation is
better than my George W. Bush imitation." Meanwhile, Warner Bros.
is denying reports that it initially balked at O'Donnell's
decision to air a clip of Barbra Streisand delivering a pro-Gore
speech on yesterday's show. The outspoken Democrat reportedly
threatened to quit if the studio pulled the speech. "Warner Bros.
and Telepictures have, and always will, support Rosie in her
desire to voice her opinion on her show," the studio said in a
statement. "Since Barbra Streisand's political comments are in an
episode airing the day before the election, we felt we had an
obligation to notify our stations of the political material that
was in the show and that we had checked with our counsel to
ensure there were no legal equal time issues."
ROSWELL ORDER
The WB has picked up its sci-fi soap Roswell for the rest of the
season.
AND BABY MAKES TWO
Just a week after it was revealed that her character on The
Practice was preggers, Camryn Manheim has announced that she,
too, is expecting her first child - a boy - in April. The
Emmy-winning actress's rep tells Reuters that Manheim - who
reportedly plans to raise the child by herself - was "not
speaking about the father."
SURVIVOR MEETS BLAIR WITCH
The site of Survivor: Australian Outback is reportedly haunted.
According to local residents, hundreds of Aboriginals were
slaughtered by Europeans a century ago near picturesque Herbert
River Gorge - the approximate location where the CBS reality show
sequel (premiering Jan. 28) is being filmed. One of the residents
told The Australian newspaper that cattlemen have heard "cries
and screaming" near the gorge at night.
DOWNEY SINGS FOR ALLY
Ally McBeal's newest legal eagle, Robert Downey Jr., will sing
two songs on the show's new holiday-themed CD, A Very Ally
Christmas, due in stores Tuesday. The actor - who signed on to do
10 episodes of the David E. Kelley drama after being released
from prison last August - will belt out a cover of Joni
Mitchell's "River" and collaborate with Shepard on a duet of
"White Christmas."
HAWN TACKLES GAY MURDER
Goldie Hawn's production company is developing a TV movie for NBC
based on the brutal murder of gay college student Matthew
Shepard. The Matthew Shepard Story will chronicle the events
surrounding Shepard's 1998 killing from the perspective of his
mother, Judy. MTV and HBO are also working on Shepard-related
pics, but NBC's project is the only one officially sanctioned by
the Shepard family.
PAINS REUNION RATES
Despite brutal reviews, ABC's Growing Pains reunion movie on
Sunday attracted a healthy 15.1 million viewers, the network's
largest audience for a Wonderful World of Disney picture in nine
months. Fox was also happy with its Sunday night season premiere
of The X-Files - the first episode featuring new castmember
Robert Patrick. The show won the night in the coveted adults
18-49 demographic earned its best ratings since last November.
Meanwhile, the CBS miniseries, Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis,
was DOA, attracting a paltry 10.9 million viewers.
FRASIER FLAP
Producers of Frasier are fuming over a report by the gay media
watchdog group GLAAD that claims controversial yakker Dr. Laura
Schlessinger successfully pressured Paramount to pull from
syndication a repeat of the show that parodied her. (Paramount
produces Schlessinger's struggling talk show as well as Frasier).
The episode - which last aired on Dec. 2, 1999 - featured
Christine Baranski as Dr. Nora, an obnoxious and outspoken radio
host. "Every other episode in that season has aired three or four
times [in syndication]," Frasier co-creator/executive producer
David Lee told the New York Post. "But 'Dr. Nora' was completely
missing each time. My partners and I are royally peeved."
Paramount is denying the charge, insisting that the episode will
air again in syndication in February.

BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2 - Tristan Skylar , Stephen Barker
Turner
After hearing and seeing the released footage of the Blair Witch
and the woods she haunts in Burkittsville, Maryland, a group of
five feel the need to tour the woods. Little do they know that
their tour leader has recently been released from a mental
institution. Think that he is the answer....Well your
wrong....Dead wrong. Throughout the night, this fearless crew
videotapes every accountable minute. Only, to realize that the
tapes are the answers to all that lies ahead. A tragic accident
puts an end to their outside slumber party causing the group to
leave the woods, but they do not leave alone. Little by little
their horror is revealed.
If I had to choose a movie that most terrified me mentally, Blair
Witch and The Book of Shadows, is definitely top on my list. I
felt every eerie sensation tantalizing my inner fears. If you
found the original Blair Witch Project frightening then Blair
Witch 2...The Book of Shadows, is a must see. From beginning to
end it is a bone chilling experience of the power that the woods
and the Blair Witch contain

6. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
BILL MURRAY
================================================
Born: September 21, 1950, Wilmette, Illinois USA
Bill is the fifth of nine children born to Edward and Lucille
Murray. He and most of his siblings worked as caddies, which paid
his tuition to Loyola Academy, an all-boy's Jesuit school. He
played sports and did some acting while in that school, bit in
his words, mostly "screwed off". He enrolled at Regis College in
Denver to study pre-med, but dropped out after being arrested for
marijuana possession. He then joined the National Lampoon Radio
Hour with fellow members Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, and John
Belushi. However, while those three became the original members
of "Saturday Night Live", he joined the "Howard Cosell Variety
Hour", which premiered that same year. After that show failed, he
later got the opportunity to join SNL. Bill is probably best
known for his Ghostbuster films than any other movie he's done.
Murray has always managed to get along with his fellow castmates,
until recently that is. Bill broke Robert DeNiro's nose during
the filming of "Mad Dog and Glory" and the two have not spoken
since. Murray also had a 'run in' with Ludy Liu doing the
Charlie's Angels shoot. When Bill is not in front of the camera
he can usually be found at a Los Angeles Lakers game or at a
baseball game since he is co-owner of the St. Paul Saints, a
minor league baseball team in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also owns a
minor league baseball team in Charleston, SC called the
Riverdogs.
