Hi Movie Fans!

I have decided to remove the "subscriber link" section from the
newsletter as it wasn't getting much use and seemed logical to
free up some space. I may bring it back if I see enough interest
to do so.

I will be away this weekend with no access to a computer. I am
not sure if I will be able to get back to do the newsletter on
Sunday, If not have a good weekend and I will see all of you next
Wednesday. Try not to miss us too much. :-)

it's going to be futuristic stuff". The role of the new Batman -
Terry McGuiness has yet to be cast, though both Keanu Reeves and
David Boreanaz are the current rumors.

produce the eventual film.

BARKER TO THE RESCUE
Price Is Right host and animal-rights activist Bob Barker has
rescued five chickens that were used to supply eggs on the set of
CBS's just-wrapped reality series, Big Brother. The network
agreed to turn the cluckers over to the snow-domed game-show host
so that they could be put in a refuge.

GUBER BUYING WCW
Former movie producer Peter Guber is in "serious negotiations" to
purchase Ted Turner's WCW wrestling operation. Not too big a
surprise, given that Guber's Mandalay Sports Entertainment is
already involved in wrestling-related projects with former WCW
topper Eric Bischoff and child-actor-turned-producer Jason
Hervey. Hervey, godson of veteran wrestler Terry Funk, played
bratty older brother Wayne Arnold on ABC's The Wonder Years
(1988-93).

MANHEIM READS WILL'S MIND
Emmy-winning Practice star Camryn Manheim will guest star on
NBC's Will & Grace this season as a loopy psychic whom Will (Eric
McCormack) seeks out for advice. The episode, "Gypsies, Tramps
and Weed," is scheduled to air in November. In the story, Will
reluctantly uses a birthday gift certificate from Grace (Debra
Messing) to consult a psychic about his future and encounters Sue
(Manheim), an absent-minded psychic who operates out of her
disheveled living room and whose predictions leave him reeling.

LIFE SHOWS LIFE
CBS's new drama, That's Life, got off to a promising start in its
Sunday debut. The show - which moves to its regular Saturday
timeslot this week - finished a strong second to the Summer
Olympics closing ceremonies, on NBC. Speaking of the Olympics,
NBC's tape-delayed coverage averaged 14.1 million homes - the
lowest-rated Olympics in 30 years.

VIRUS HITS REALITY SHOW
Survivor creator Mark Burnett encountered some problems of the
viral variety on the set of his upcoming USA Network series,
Eco-challenge. Some of the 312
contestants participating in the six-day Borneo adventure came
down with leptospirosis, which suppresses the immune system and
can cause high fevers. Turns out the infected contestants picked
up the icky virus while swimming
in a contaminated river. "Everyone is just fine now," assures an
exec at Burnett's L.A. studio. Eco-challenge is set to debut in
April.

FOX DEBATES
Responding to widespread criticism, Fox execs have changed their
minds about not airing any of presidential debates; the network
now will offer them on a tape-delay basis.

CLOSE BUT NO DEBATE
Presidential candidate George W. Bush makes his first visit to
Late Show With David Letterman on Oct. 19. Bush will no doubt be
questioned about his lack of response to Letterman's invitation
to debate on The Late Show. Vice President Gore has already
agreed to the debate on Letterman is Bush will agree also.

ROMANO'S GAMBLING PAST
Everybody Loves Raymond star Ray Romano confesses that he
overcame a compulsive gambling past 11 years ago. "In a casino,
you gotta give them money up front," he says. "But when you make
a phone call to a bookmaker, you can say, 'Put a thousand dollars
on this' even if you don't have the money on you. The good part
was that I didn't have a lot to lose, so it's better that I had
the habit then than now."

POLITICS VS. BASEBALL
A number of TV stations owned by NBC or affiliated with the
Peacock network now plan to preempt Major League Baseball's
Tuesday night divisional playoff game between the Yankees and the
Braves to telecast the first of three presidential debates
between George W. Bush and Al Gore. NBC had originally planned to
carry MLB instead of the political pingpong match but rethought
the strategy and is now offering both feeds to its stations.

5. MOVIE REVIEW(s) - DVD
================================================

28 Days - Sandra Bullock, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Buscemi
I missed this one in theaters, but that wasn't hard since it was
only out for about 5 weeks. I'm a big fan of Sandra Bullock and
I love everything that Steve Buscemi has been in, so I decided to
take this one for a whirl. I'm really glad I did. 28 Days is a
dark comedy about a woman who is addicted to alcohol and is
sentenced to rehab after crashing a limo through someone's home.
We follow her as she goes through denial, withdrawal, and
eventual acceptance of her situation. The supporting cast is
excellent and the story is tough to watch at times because you
can feel how real it is. The DVD features a commentary,
behind-the-scenes feature, trailers, isolated music score, and
other tidbits.

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS - Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest
This is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I just had to get
it. It's an amazing story of two people who fall in love in the
classic fairy-tale-sort-of-way. The beauty part of this DVD is
that it's in letterbox format. I've always wanted to own this
movie in it's original format instead of cropped down to a
standard pan and scan film. Another bonus is that the film is in
THX even though it's not advertised on the box. The DVD features
a commentary, featurette, conceptual art, a trailer, TV ads, and
wonderful 4.0 surround sound.

Final Destination - Devon Sawa, Tony Todd
I saw this one several months back literally because there wasn't
anything else on pay-per-view. I ended up truly loving the film.
The cast is a bunch of young newcomers, but it's the storyline
that will grab you. Basically, 7 people cheat death when they
get off a plane that explodes on take off. The entire film
revolves around these people trying to continue to cheat death by
figuring out death's 'plan'. This film has got the best ending
of anything I can remember in a long time. But trust me, stay
away from planes for awhile after seeing this or else you'll
think about it the entire flight. The DVD is loaded with
commentaries, documentaries, deleted scenes, an alternate ending,
DVDROM, and an isolated score.

6. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
GARY SINISE
================================================

Born: March 17 1955, Blue Island, Illinois, USA

Gary Sinise was born in Blue Island, Illinois. His family later
moved to Highland Park, where he attended high school. He was
something of a rebel, playing in bands but paying little
attention to school. Gary and some friends tried out for "West
Side Story" as a lark, but Gary was hooked on acting for life by
closing night. Gary credits his love for theatre to his drama
teacher, Barbara Patterson. In 1974, Gary, Terry Kinney, and Jeff
Perry founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago.
Initially performing in a church basement, the company grew and
gained stature in the Chicago area. The company made its Broadway
debut with True West, starring Gary and John Malkovich. Gary's
Hollywood career also started in the director's chair with two
episodes of the stylish TV series "Crime Story" followed in 1988
by the feature "Miles from Home" starring Richard Gere. Gary's
first feature film as an actor was the World War II fable "A
Midnight Clear" in 1992. That year also found Gary combining his
acting and directing talents with the critically acclaimed "Of
Mice and Men". His first real notice by the public came in 1994,
however. He starred in the blockbuster miniseries "The Stand",
rapidly followed by his bravura performance as Lt. Dan in
"Forrest Gump". His portrayal of the disabled, emotionally
tortured veteran earned Gary numerous awards and an Oscar
nomination. In fact, because Sinise was barely known, people
thought that he really was wheelchair bound until explanations of
the special effects was given a few weeks before the Oscars.
Busy 1994 was followed by busy 1995, first reuniting with Tom
Hanks in "Apollo 13" and then starring in the HBO film "Truman"
which earned him the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards
and an Emmy nomination. Sinise appeared with Hanks for a third
time in The Green Mile in 1999. Gary is married to Moira Harris,
an actress and original member of the Steppenwolf company. They
have three children, Sophie, McCanna, and Ella.
