Hi Movie Fans!

It was brought to my attention that with the merging of Yahoo! and
eGroups some of you may be getting an annoying banner at the top of
each newsletter, or any post if you belong to other newsletters or
discussion lists hosted by eGroups. As I understand it, this was
not the case before? Anyhow if any of you are interested in booting
that nasty banner do the following..

Go to http://www.egroups.com/myprofile My Profile and click on Edit
Profile, then down to Preferences. Choose "HTML email: I would like
to receive normal (text) email" That should do the trick pretty
quickly. We have plans of moving this list to our own mail server,
but I am not quite sure when the transfer will take place, but it
will eliminate this in the future.

Thanks to John T of ListOwnerHelp
ListOwnerHelp-subscribe@egroups.com for the info. If your a list
owner at egroups you might want to join John's list, it has proven
to be very helpful.

Finally, there were no new trailers for this week. They will return
next Sunday provided that we get some new ones coming out, also Top
Box Office figures were not available at the time of publication (I
checked right before mailing this).

HOPKINS TO VOICE GRINCH
Anthony Hopkins, who won an Oscar for Silence of the Lambs, will
narrate the upcoming live-action version of Dr. Seuss's How the
Grinch Stole Christmas. Boris Karloff performed the narration on
the 1966 animated classic. The film, starring Jim Carrey and
directed by Ron Howard, opens Nov. 17.

'GRINCH," IN FOR A RIDE OF HIS LIFE
More on The Grinch.. If your a NASCAR fan as I am you will be
interested to know that The Grinch, will make his first appearance
in the motorsports world in November. This promotion coincides with
the November 17th release of Universal Pictures' and Imagine
Entertainment's live-action film, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole
Christmas, starring Jim Carrey as The Grinch. Two-time NASCAR
Winston Cup champion Terry Labonte will drive the specially
designed Grinch-themed car to close out the 2000 race season.
Labonte's No. 5 Kellogg's Chevrolet Monte Carlo with The Grinch
theme will participate in NASCAR Winston Cup races on Nov. 5 at
Phoenix International Raceway and Nov. 12 at Homestead-Miami
Speedway. We were able to get our hands on a photo that can be seen
at http://www.movie-fever.com/photos/NascarGrinch

MEG RYAN FILES FOR DIVORCE
Apparently a reconciliation for Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid was a
ploy to keep the press at a distance. Meg Ryan has counterfiled for
divorce from husband Dennis Quaid. The Sleepless in Seattle actress
cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. Quaid filed for
divorce in July, following scuttlebutt that Ryan was having an
affair with Gladiator hunk Russell Crowe.

CHER HAS STYLE
Cher has acquired the rights to Style Challenge, a British show
that is similar to E!'s Fashion Emergency. Cher would serve as
executive producer of the series, which features guests receiving
makeovers. It could debut in syndication as early as next year.

MARRIAGE DENIAL #1
Michael Douglas' people are insisting that a story in Britain's Sun
claiming he and Catherine Zeta-Jones were planning to wed in Santa
Barbara, CA, on Sept. 30 is utter nonsense.

MARRIAGE DENIAL #2
Madonna's reps are refuting reports that she and beau Guy Ritchie
will marry by year's end. Several tabloids in London are saying
that Madonna and Ritchie have already arranged for the wedding.

DEATH FOR DEVITO
Danny DeVito is in talks to star as a Barney-type children's
character in the comedy Death to Smoochie. DeVito would play the
man behind Smoochie, a big blue rhinoceros character targeted for
assassination. The film, slated to begin shooting this fall,
apparently will portray the business of children's programming as
ruthless.

ANOTHER SNL STAR TO BIG SCREEN
Saturday Night Live's Horatio Sanz will co-write and star in a
comedy film about an overweight tennis player.

JUST KATHIE LEE
On her upcoming pop album, Heart of a Woman (due Oct. 24), Kathie
Lee Gifford goes the way of Madonna and Cher by billing herself
simply as Kathie Lee.

OPPPSS!!
Brad Renfro is out of jail and back to work on the Fort Lauderdale,
FL, set of his latest film, Bully. The 18-year-old star of The
Client and Apt Pupil was arrested on Monday for attempting to steal
a 45-foot yacht with buddy Harold Bond. There was just one problem:
The boat was still tied to the dock. As a result, the $175,000
vessel was damaged when it slammed back into the pier. Renfro, who
was arrested in 1998 on drug charges, posted $10,000 bail.

'STAR WARS TRILOGY'TO BE REISSUED ON VHS
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is rereleasing the
three-cassette "Star Wars Trilogy" VHS box set Nov. 21, three years
after its first limited release. Lucasfilm Ltd. executives believe
a new generation of "Star Wars" fans became aware of the space-age
trilogy as a result of the "Episode I" fanfare. But those same
execs have no plans to release any "Star Wars" film on DVD,
something retailers and fans have requested most. The box set,
which includes "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return
of the Jedi," also features an exclusive 10-minute sneak peak of
the next installment in the "Star Wars" saga - "Episode II."

EMINEM CAVES
Grammy-winning Eminem (aka Marshall Bruce Mathers III) has settled
a $10 million lawsuit filed by his estranged wife, Kim Mathers. She
claimed his song, "Kim", in which he raps about murdering her and
tossing her body in a lake while their 5-year-old daughter looks
on, amounted to "an intentional infliction of emotional distress."
As part of the settlement, Kim gets sole physical custody of their
daughter.

DREAMWORKS MIGHT SELL WEBSITE
Pop.com, the long-awaited entry into the Internet entertainment
world from Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks studio, may be sold before
it even debuts. DreamWorks is in talks to sell its struggling Web
site to IFILM, an independent film portal, said Vivian Mayer, a
DreamWorks spokeswoman. It was not clear whether the deal would be
a merger or an acquisition or how the privately held companies
would finance the transaction. The fate of the management team was
also undetermined, as was the status of deals Pop.com has already
reached with artists such as Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy.
DreamWorks and director Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment
announced the creation of Pop.com in October, back when several
high-profile Web sites talked of becoming networks, creating a
lineup of original television-like shows, animation and short
films.

CARREY GETS SERIOUS
Jim Carrey is in talks to star in the romantic dramedy Bijou, to be
directed by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green
Mile). Set in 1951, the film centers around a blacklisted writer
with amnesia who stumbles into a small town and is mistaken for a
soldier who died. Carrey's decision to take on a more serious role
comes after his latest film, the lowbrow farce Me, Myself & Irene,
performed disappointingly at the box office. He'll next appear in
How the Grinch Stole Christmas, opening Nov. 17.

JACKSON IN LANES
Samuel L. Jackson looks to be close to joining Ben Affleck in a
psycho-drama called Lanes. The film, which will be directed by
Roger Michell (Notting Hill), tells the story of a businessman
(Jackson) and a lawyer (Affleck) who get into a small traffic
accident. Soon, tensions escalate the matter to "terrifying levels"
leading to a one on one battle between the two men. The Paramount
project is likely to start shooting in late 2000-early 2001.

LORD OF THE DANCE
Minnie Driver is set to star opposite Michael Flatley in the
upcoming "rags to riches" biopic of the famous Lord of the Dance.
Shooting begins in Ireland on September 16th, the towns of Dublin
and Cork where that leg of the filming will take place - Flately
has a multi-million pound castle residence there. After ten days
the production heads to Chicago for a month, an area where Flately
grew up. Also expect the opening scene to show Flately's early time
as a building laborer. "My Left Foot" scribe Shane Connaughton
co-wrote the script and the film is expected out in April 2001.

WORD ON THE STREETS, BUT NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM...

MALKOVICH AND SPIDERMAN
Rumors are flying that John Malkovich is being considered for the
role of The Green Goblin in the upcoming Spiderman movie. The role
was originally offered to Nicolas Cage who turned it down due to
scheduling conflicts.

PITT AND BATMAN
Rumors are also circulating that Brad Pitt is being looked at to
play Batman in the fifth installment of the movie franchise.

TELEVISION
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

FRESH START FOR RIBEIRO
Just as he was about to become a 'Where are they now?' feature,
Alfonso Ribeiro emerges from obscurity. The former Fresh Prince of
Bel Air sidekick will replace Christopher Reid (Kid of Kid 'n'
Play) as host of the syndicated talent show Your Big Break. The
weekly series kicks off its second season on Sept. 23.

DEGENERES COMEDY REDONE
CBS execs have decided to retool the Emmy-winning comedienne's
upcoming comedy, slated to debut at midseason. It's unclear whether
the show's original format - a Larry Sanders-esque
show-within-a-show - is being jettisoned.

GERALDO FOR MAYOR
Geraldo Rivera is considering running for mayor of New York City.
The host of CNBC's Rivera Live is telling friends that he wants to
replace Rudy Giuliani when his term ends at the end of 2001. Rivera
likely would run as an independent.

NO SNL FOR HATCH
CBS reportedly has forbidden Survivor winner Rich Hatch from
hosting the season opener of NBC's Saturday Night Live. SNL
approached the world's most famous 39-year-old gay corporate
trainer to kick off the show's new season in October. But CBS,
which had all of the contestants sign a contract giving the network
complete control over their television and media appearances for
the next year, nixed the deal.

GORE AND OPRAH
Oprah Winfrey will open her talk show's 15th season on Sept. 11
with Vice President and presidential candidate Al Gore as a guest.

COMPANY REJECTS EMINEM
A Southern California-based firm, 30 Minute Photos Etc., has pulled
its advertising from MTV's Video Music Awards in protest of
Eminem's appearance. The company's president cites the rapper's
violent, homophobic lyrics as the reason.

SURVIVOR DEATHMATCH
The World Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling and
Extreme Championship Wrestling all want to take up feuding
Survivors Kelly Wiglesworth and Susan Hawk on their offer to get in
the ring together. On yesterday's Early Show, the pair told Bryant
Gumbel that they wanted to challenge each other to a "tapioca
wrestling match." All three wrestling outfits have approached the
duo to go at it in a possible pay-per-view show.

SURVIVOR MYSTERY
Investigators may want to scour eBay to solve this crime. Someone
made off with a box of autographed Survivor photos at last week's
wrap party in Los Angeles. The pics were to be donated to various
charities. "It's really sad," CBS rep Chris Ender tells the trade
paper. "You put together these photos to help a charity raise
money, and some selfish individuals break into a briefcase and haul
them off."

MORE SURVIVOR
Rich Hatch is now a full-fledged somebody by Hollywood standards.
The 39-year-old celeb, who all this week has been serving as guest
host of a Rhode Island radio station, has signed with the Creative
Artists Agency, management firm Pure Arts and publicist Polaris PR.

DREYFUSS SAYS HELLO TO TV
Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss is getting his own TV show on CBS.
The actor, currently appearing in the box office dud The Crew,
reportedly has signed a seven-figure deal to develop and star in an
unspecified project to debut
next fall. Although Dreyfuss appeared in CBS's live production of
Fail Safe last season, he hasn't appeared in a series since his
days on NBC's '60s sitcom Karen.

HIP HOP SCORES EVEN WITHOUT FIGHT
Even with the melee edited out, The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards
broke ratings records - for UPN, that is. The telecast attracted
5.3 million viewers, leading the struggling network to post its
best Tuesday ratings ever.

FOX PUSHES BACK VISIONS
The Fox anthology series Night Visions, hosted by rocker Henry
Rollins, has been delayed to midseason. No reason was given.

MORE GORE
Presidential hopeful Al Gore drops by the Late Show With Dave
Letterman on Sept. 14, his first appearance on the show since 1993.

REAL WORLD RETURNS TO GOTHAM
MTV's pioneering reality soap, The Real World, is returning to its
roots. The network confirms that the show's 10th season will be set
in New York, the location of the first Real World. It remains
unclear where in the Big Apple the show will take up residence, but
earlier reports suggested the network was considering Harlem.
Additionally, MTV will start airing two seasons of the show within
one year's time, with the 10th season debuting in June 2001 and the
11th in January 2002. The network also ordered another season of
Road Rules.

RICH HATCH'S BOOK DEAL
St. Martin's Press will pay Survivor winner Rich Hatch $500,000 to
write a book about his time on Pulau Tiga. The book - described as
part memoir/part how-to-succeed-in-life - reportedly will feature a
commentary on each Survivor episode, as well as personal musings
about his childhood and his experience coming out.

NEW HELMER FOR CNN
Rick Kaplan is out as CNN's president, apparently due to the cable
news channel's continued ratings woes.

COSTAS AND COURIC
Katie Couric will join Bob Costas in hosting NBC's coverage of the
Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics.
