2. IN THE NEWS
================================================

FREDDY VS. JASON? YEP!
(Edited by Bob)
Why? I dont know. I actually thought this was a cool idea, but
couldn't see how they would make a movie like this that is worth
seeing. I have always been a fan of the "Friday the 13th" series,
the early ones anyway. It's hard to see them making this movie and
not giving it the same cheesy feel as the more recent "Fridays,"
anyways in a recent interview Robert Englund guaranteed us that he
will be dusting off his striped T-shirt and hat for another turn as
Freddy in Freddy vs. Jason. Englund says that Stephen Norrington
(Blade) will be replacing Guillermo Del Toro as director, and may
even pen the flick as well. The only bad news is that Englund says
there is no rush to get things going. The upside is that they are
being extremely careful to make sure they do it right for their
fans. (Let's hope so)

TENSE TIMES FOR WOODY
Actor Woody Harrelson is sweating it out in a Denver courtroom as
his jailed dad, Charles, pleads for a new trial that could overturn
his conviction for the 1982 contract killing of a federal judge.
The elder Harrelson waved to his famous son at the end of
yesterday's proceeding, which is expected to continue today and
tomorrow.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE?
Rumors are abound that difficulties in trying to hammer out a
pre-nuptial agreement between Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael
Douglas could rock the couple's plans for a September wedding.
Douglas had rejected Zeta-Jones's request for $4.5 million for
every year they are married and a home for life if she splits from
the actor. The couple is expecting their first child in just five
weeks. I don't believe this one for a second. Considering they
worship each other, the rumor seems far-fetched.

NEW FLICK IN THE WORKS
Joe Roth's Revolution Studios has paid mid-six figures in rights
and scripting fees to make a film based on "Single-Gal Heaven," a
recent Elle magazine article about a reporter who dates five
dot-com millionaires in five days. In the article which appeared in
the May issue of Elle, journo Deanna Kizis found that, with one
exception, these seemingly great catches were actually
self-absorbed, lonely guys who spent all their time working and had
a taste for superficial and glitzy things.

MOVIE ROLES AUCTION PROBED BY LABOR OFFICIALS
A new film project spearheaded by such heavyweights as the William
Morris Agency, Yahoo! Auctions and Blockbuster ran afoul of
California labor laws just hours after it was launched at a
much-ballyhooed news conference Tuesday. The project, called "Who
Wants to Be a Movie Star?" was designed to sell off speaking roles
and behind-the-scenes jobs for a specific, yet-unnamed film project
to the highest online bidders. But shortly after the project's
launch at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, the labor
commissioner's office launched its own investigation into what it
is calling the "totally illegal" practice of selling jobs to the
highest bidder.

MORE STERN AHEAD?
Syndicated radio host Howard Stern still hasn't accepted a rumored
$100 million offer to renew his contract past November but the
shockjock has just agreed to a three-year extension with Toronto's
Q-107 if he decides to keep doing his morning show. "Our contract
has nothing to do with the other," station program director Pat
Cardinal recently said.

'VALENTINE' FOR RICHARDS, SHELTON
Denise Richards and Marley Shelton have been cast opposite David
Boreanaz in Warner Bros.' "Valentine." The project, slated to begin
shooting July 10 in Vancouver with director Jamie Blanks at the
helm, is targeted for a Valentine's Day release.

DUVALL IN 'JOHN Q'
Robert Duvall will star with Denzel Washington in "John Q" for
director Nick Cassavettes and New Line Cinema. Shooting is
scheduled to begin early next month.

FOX CLOSES ANIMATION OPERATION IN ARIZONA
Citing drastic changes in the industry, 20th Century Fox has
revealed plans to close its 60-person animation operation in
Phoenix after producing only two pictures there in six years. The
Phoenix operation opened in 1994 amid great fanfare locally. Its
first production was "Anastasia," considered a mild success with a
$58.4 million take at the box office. Fox also produced the
recently released "Titan, A.E." out of Phoenix, a cartoon feature
that has generated a disappointing $16.9 million in its first two
weeks in theaters.

KISS: GOING, GOING, GONE!
KISS fans coughed up almost $876,000 at a two-day auction of
rock-and-roll memorabilia sold by band members Gene Simmons and
Paul Stanley in Los Angeles last weekend. The biggest-ticket item:
a set of four original costumes from the group's 1996-97 Alive
reunion world tour. The over-the-top duds went for a cool $189,500.

WOO-HOO!! TRAVOLTA AND FORD TOGETHER?
John Woo was recently asked about the possibility of M:I-3 to which
he said: "Tom [Cruise] and I are talking about this. The problem is
the long shooting. I am booked out for a quite long time. After
"Windtalkers" I'll shoot "King's Men", a comedy. After this I'll
make a movie with Harrison Ford and John Travolta." The casting
budget alone will be impressive.

STAR TREK 10 INFO
Star Trek producer Rick Berman revealed a little info about the
current state of the tenth film: "It is a story that will focus
around a remarkable villain and is a very action-oriented space
film. A lot higher percentage of this film will take place in outer
space than in our previous films". The current target date for it
is still Thanksgiving 2001.

SCOTT JOINS A.I.
Adam Scott (Party of Five) is another addition to the cast of
Steven Spielberg's A.I. project. Scott will take on the role of a
mechanical repairman. The film is set in a future where global
warming has flooded the Earth and where people own robots with
artificial intelligence to take the place of children and/or lovers
they can't have.

SHATNER AT THE HELM AGAIN
William Shatner is going to direct a black comedy called Shiva
Club. Shatner spoke of how the death of his wife spawned the idea.
Shatner explains, "I had a personal tragedy last year in my life,
and during the process of sitting shiva, the concept occurred to
me: Grief can be funny." The trade reports that the script by David
Freed tells the story of four out of work stand-up comics who
scheme to get gigs by auditioning for a big Hollywood comedian who
is going through shiva for his late wife. Shiva is the seven-day
mourning period observation by Jewish faithful after someone dies.
Not sure Shatner has all his dogs barking with this one.

'WHO WANTS TO MARRY A MULTIMILLIONAIRE' BRIDE DOES PLAYBOY
The U.S. game show bride who rejected her millionaire husband after
their bizarre marriage on national television said on Wednesday she
had taken off her wedding dress and bared all for Playboy magazine.
Darva Conger, 34, who lost her job as an emergency room nurse soon
after her ill-fated wedding to millionaire Rick Rockwell, told
NBC's "Today" show she posed nude to help compensate for loss of
income after the show.

X-FILES SECRETS REVEALED
David Duchovny will appear in the first two episodes of The
X-File's upcoming eighth season and then vanish until late in the
year, according to series supporting player William B. Davis (the
cigarette-smoking man). Meanwhile, the show's producers are
reportedly searching for an actor to play a male ex-cop in his 30s
or 40s as the new partner for Gillian Anderson's Agent Scully.

ABC ORDERS JACK
ABC has ordered a minimum of 13 episodes of You Don't Know Jack, a
new game show based on the popular computer trivia game. No word
yet on who will host. Paul Rubens, a/k/a Pee-Wee Herman, was
originally slated to helm the game show but eventually backed out
of the project. There's a mental image I don't need.

HEWITT'S OUTTA TIME
The struggling Jennifer Love Hewitt drama Time of Your Life has
been canceled by Fox just two weeks after the series returned from
a long hiatus. Seven episodes remain unaired.

SHANDLING TO HOST EMMYS
Garry Shandling has been tapped to host ABC's telecast of the 52nd
annual Emmy Awards on Sept. 10. Shandling's no stranger to the
Emmys, having won a 1998 writing trophy for his work on HBO's The
Larry Sanders Show.

DR. LAURA SHEDS TEARS
Ultraconservative radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger says
efforts by gays and lesbians to squash her upcoming TV talk show
have been "agonizing," according to Time. "I've cried more at times
than I would like to admit," she says. Still, she insists, "Not
being able to relate normally to a member of the opposite sex is
some kind of error." Her syndicated TV show is scheduled to make
its debut on Sept. 11.

BARKIN, PERELMAN TO WED
It's the fourth time for him, the second for her: Billionaire
cosmetics executive Ron Perelman and actress Ellen Barkin are
getting married. "I'll confirm they'll be getting married but give
no details in the interest of preserving their privacy," Perelman
spokesman Howard Rubenstein said Tuesday.

3. MOVIE REVIEW - DVD
================================================

Edited by Laurie

(NOTE FROM BOB: Laurie actually gave me the below information a
week ago and I forgot to include it in last Wednesdays edition.
Sorry :)

Hi all. I went really nuts and finally picked up all the DVDs I had
on order during my vacation. I haven't had time to watch them all,
but I should have them done by next Wednesday. Also Thursday and
Friday, I have meetings at work for reviewing upcoming Steven
Spielberg DVD releases of Jaws, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World.
Also, I found out that Spielberg is going to release everything to
DVD now...including E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and
all of the Indiana Jones movies. Since Steven is a nut over making
sure fans get the best, look for all his releases to be in THX
and/or DTS. Woo-Hoo! Work is also hooking me up with Men in
Black, The Princess Bride, Braveheart, and rumors of the long
awaited Godfather Trilogy.

FIGHT CLUB - Brad Pitt, Edward Norton
I had no idea what to expect from this film other than the terrible
truth that Brad Pitt was going to be bloody and mangled throughout
the entire three hours. The movie is uniquely different from any
other film I can recall. The best way to compare this movie is to
take two other Pitt films and say...Add the dark insanity of 12
Monkeys and the brutality of Seven and you might scratch the
surface of Fight Club...even then the movie has a suspenseful
comedy to it that can't be described. This entire movie is
extremely violent, but it's done almost reverently. The DVD is
without a doubt the best gift any production company can give a
true movie fan. I'm going to list several features from this two
disc set, but there are literally too many to note them all here.
One disc is the film with 4 commentaries, 5.1 and THX audio
options, and interactive menus. The second disc has more specials
on it than any other DVD I've seen yet. Features include: 17
scenes with alternate angles, outtakes, deleted scenes,
storyboards, photo gallery, movie art, visual effects, music
videos, interviews, behind-the-scenes documentaries, collector's
booklet, Easter Eggs throughout, interactive menus, cast and crew
bios, extensive DVDROM features, and more. Extremely impressive
set with about a total of 2 hours in extras alone.

4. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
Patrick Swayze
================================================
He's in the news alot lately, so why not tell you a little about
him...

Birth Name: Patrick Swayze
Born: August 18, 1952 - Houston, Texas, USA

Patrick Swayze may be more known for his dancing than his acting.
As the son of choreographer Patsy Swayze, Patrick learned to dance
at an early age by attending the Harkness Ballet School, the
Joffrey Ballet School, and San Jacinto College. His first
performance was playing Prince Charming in Disney's on Parade.
After making his Broadway debut in Grease, Patrick went on to his
first film role in Skatetown, USA. His most recognized work is
Johnny in Dirty Dancing and Sam in Ghost. He's been married to his
wife Lisa for 25 years. Patrick recently had a scare when he was
flying his plane in Arizona and was forced to set it down on a
relatively deserted road. He joked that his dogs slept through the
entire ordeal.
