JIM CARREY'S 'PHONE BOOTH'
Jim Carrey is dialing up his next film: 20th Century Fox's thriller
"Phone Booth," with director Joel Schumacher at the helm. The
project is expected to start shooting this summer in New York.
Carrey, who next stars in the Farrelly brothers comedy "Me, Myself
and Irene," has not committed to a film since he wrapped up work on
Imagine Entertainment's "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole
Christmas," which is due later this year. "Phone Booth" is about a
media consultant trapped in a Manhattan phone booth after being
told by a caller - a serial killer with a sniper rifle - that he'll
be shot dead if he hangs up.

UNIVERSAL SUES MIKE MYERS
Universal is suing Mike Myers, claiming he walked away from a
legal commitment to make a film based on his Saturday Night Live
Dieter character. However, Myers says he is shocked at the lawsuit
and that he balked at making the Dieter film because "the script
was unworkable. I cannot in good conscience accept $20 million and
cheat moviegoers who pay their hard-earned money to see my work by
making a movie with an unacceptable script," he said in a statement
.

STAR WARS ODD COUPLE?
How's this for an odd couple: George Lucas and director/actress
Troy Beyer were snuggling at the MTV Movie Awards! Lucas's rep says
the two are just friends. What would Linda Rondstadt think?

COUNTRY SHOWDOWN IN BUFFALO!
Two country-music superstars - including the hunky hubby of singer
Faith Hill - were locked in the pokey after one stole a police
horse and the other attacked sheriff's deputies in Buffalo, NY,
cops said. Kenny Chesney - who topped the charts with "How Forever
Feels" - was arrested late Saturday night after he galloped away
with a Mounted Reserve deputy's horse, authorities said. Minutes
later, cops slapped the cuffs on Tim McGraw - son of former
big-league relief pitcher Tug McGraw and Hill's husband - after he
went ballistic on deputies who tried to corral him. McGraw and
Chesney were in Buffalo as headline performers of the George Strait
Country Music Festival, an all-day concert that attracted about
50,000 to Rich Stadium in nearby Orchard Park, NY. The melee began
in the stadium parking lot when Chesney asked the daughter of Capt.
James Coyle, who oversees the sheriff's mounted division, if he
could briefly mount her dad's horse. She said OK. Instead, he
leaped onto the saddle and trotted off - with sheriff's deputies in
hot pursuit, demanding in vain that he stop, lawmen said.

CHRISTINA RICCI SPRINGS INTO ACTION
Christina Ricci, cyborg? The edgy 20-year-old actress will star in
and co-produce (with Joel Silver!) a film based on the comic book
Adrenalin. Ricci will play a Cold War orphan who is turned into a
half-human/half-cyborg programmed to destroy the U.S. Yikes!

PETS.COM PUPPET FOR SALE
If you're like us you probably love the sarcastic but cute Pets.com
Sock Puppet, so you'll be thrilled to learn that replicas of the
sardonic sock are now available for purchase exclusively at
Pets.com. And that's just the beginning: Look for a whole line of
Sock Puppet merchandise beginning in July.

BOB HOPE ON THE MEND
Beloved entertainer Bob Hope is on the road to
recovery after undergoing emergency medical treatment for an
intestinal problem. The 97-year-old funnyman is in critical-but-
stable condition, and his spokesman says his condition is "not
life-threatening. It is treatable."

WEDDING BELLS FOR HUGH & LIZ?
Hot on the heels of breakup rumors are reports that Hugh Grant and
Elizabeth Hurley are really pulling our legs - they haven't split
and they are planning a big wedding in the English countryside.
"They will shortly get officially engaged and will have a formal
wedding next year," a source tells the tabloid.

HEATHER GRAHAM, ED BURNS SPLIT
Ed Burns and Heather Graham have split up. Burns's spokeswoman
confirms the breakup, while Graham's rep didn't return calls.

PATRICK SWAYZE'S SMOOTH LANDING
Actor/dancer Patrick Swayze walked away unharmed after he was
forced to make an emergency landing in his light plane Thursday in
northern Arizona. Swayze was flying alone in his Cesna plane from
California to Las Vegas when a mechanical problem necessitated an
emergency landing on a dirt road in Prescott, AZ.

MADONNA GETS CAUGHT IN THE NET
Madonna declared war on bootleggers last night after they released
her brand-new single over the Web - a full four months before it's
due in stores. The Material Girl had her record company dash off a
poison-pen letter threatening legal action against any Internet
sites that allow the tune, "Music," to be downloaded. She charged
that somebody had stolen the song, which is still in production.
Fans of the pop goddess couldn't believe their eyes when they tuned
into several music sites yesterday morning and found the title song
of her new album up for grabs. Large portions of the track could be
found using Napster's file-swapping software, which allows the
public to download music for free. MTV's popular online site even
offered a chunk of the song to Web surfers.

LIEV SCHREIBER DIALS 9
Scream hunk Liev Schreiber is set to play a cheating husband
opposite Jeanne Tripplehorn in the upcoming flick Dial 9 for Love.
The film offers an erotic twist on movies like Sorry, Wrong Number
and begins shooting this week.

PETER FALK HAS IT MADE
One more thing for Peter Falk: The veteran
actor has snagged a role in the upcoming Artisan movie Made,
starring trendy types John Favreau, Vince Vaughn and Sean "Puffy"
Combs. Falk will play a scam artist in the pic, which begins
filming this month
in New York.

MORE MOVIE ROLES FOR THE ROCK
The Rock is set to roll in two new movies. The popular wrestler is
in negotiations to star in a big-budget sci-fi flick for producer
Joe Roth, and is also in advanced talks to star in the sequel to
The Mummy for Universal. The Rock would collect $5 million for each
role.

TITO PUENTE DEAD AT 77
Latin bandleader Tito Puente died Thursday in New York at age 77;
he was recently treated for a heart condition. Puente cut more than
100 albums during his long career, recently winning his fifth
Grammy Award in February.

JANET JACKSON SPLITS FROM HUBBY
Janet Jackson is married, and her estranged husband, Rene Elizondo,
is filing for divorce! Jackson acknowledged the secret marriage in
a statement, explaining that she tried to keep the nine-year
marriage "private in an effort to have a normal family life. It
pains me greatly that despite my sincere efforts, my marriage to
Rene did not work out."

REESE WITHERSPOON GOES BLONDE
The woman from Pleasantville is about to be Legally Blonde. Reese
Witherspoon is in final talks to star in the MGM movie Legally
Blonde, about a flashy blonde who goes to law school. Aussie
newcomer Robert Luketic is set to direct the film later this year.

CELINE DION: ON THE MEND
Chest-pounding chanteuse Celine Dion is recovering from two
operations of an undisclosed nature, her spokeswoman has confirmed.
The singer was treated at a fertility clinic in New York in the
hopes of having a child with her husband/manager, Rene Angelil. "I
have no comment on that," Dion's publicist tells Reuters.

PARTY HUNK MEETS DAWSON'S HONEY
Former Party of Five hunk Michael Goorjian is in final talks to
star opposite Dawson's Creek Michelle Williams in the independent
film Beatrice. Goorjian would play a disturbed young man who
escapes from a mental hospital in the flick, which he also wrote.

THE TRUTH ABOUT TOMMY LEE'S LEGAL WOES
Tommy Lee has released a statement explaining why he spent five
days in the Los Angeles County jail due to a parole violation.
Apparently, Lee's estranged wife, Pamela Lee, contacted the
district attorney's office May 5 to report that she and Tommy had a
glass of champagne on New Year's Eve.

PAMELA LEE'S NEW BEAU
Speaking of Pam, the formerly buxom beauty spent Memorial Day with
supermodel/soap actor Marcus Schenkenberg. "They spent time on the
beach and in the gym and indoors," said a source. "I don't know if
they took any video."

ROD STEWART RECOVERS FROM SURGERY
The 55-year-old singer's spokesman confirms that he recently
underwent thyroid surgery to remove a nodule, and he has been given
a clean bill of health. The nodule was benign and Stewart's vocal
cords were unaffected; no word on whether the singer's spiky hairdo
was damaged.

EDDIE VAN HALEN BATTLING CANCER
Rock hero Eddie Van Halen is battling cancer. According to the Van
Halen web site, the hard-livin' guitarist, 45, visited the
University of Texas's M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston last
week to begin outpatient treatment. Van Halen, who is married to
One Day at a Time star Valerie Bertinelli, is a heavy smoker and a
recovering alcoholic, leading to Internet speculation that he is
suffering from cancer of the tongue.
**UPDATE**
Doctors from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston said today
that reports of Eddie Van Halen having cancer are wrong.
"There is some inaccurate information out and about ... Let me
confirm that he does not have cancer," said spokeswoman Jane Brust
to Reuters. Brust said that Eddie had visited the hospital for a
thorough examination and was found not to have cancer. She
confirmed the report from Van Halen's official web site that Eddie
had decided to take part in a clinical trial to prevent cancer.

JODIE FOSTER: PREGNANT AGAIN
Get ready for another Foster child - Oscar winner Jodie Foster is
expecting her second baby. The star of The Silence of the Lambs has
told friends she's 11 weeks pregnant. Just like her first, Jodie's
new pregnancy is believed to be the result of artificial
insemination. And once again, the 37-year-old actress - who
jealously guards her private life - is not revealing who the father
is.

TREK ACTOR GOES THE DIRECT ROUTE
Star Trek actor and Roswell honcho Jonathan Frakes is boldly going
where he has gone before: that he's directing the flick
Clockstoppers. Casting and a schedule are pending, but is it too
much to ask that his wife, General Hospital diva Genie Francis,
appear in the film?

CROW DIRECTOR ON PORTAL
Alex Proya, director of The Crow and Dark City, is now attached to
a project called Enoch's Portal, based on the novel of the same
name written by A.W. Hill due out this fall. The eventual film will
tell the story of an American hired to extricate a young woman from
an Eastern European cult who has discoved a great secret of
medieval alchemy. Using a machine built with 14th century science,
the
cultists intend to reduce the woman to an immaterial spirit. The
film will be produced by Cotty Chubb and Sean Daniel of the
Par-based Alphaville Prods. and by Jonathan Dana and Topher Dow.

Voight as FDR
Jon Voight will star as President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the
Disney/Bruckheimer & Bay drama, Pearl Harbor. Joining a cast that
includes Ben Affleck, Josh Harnett, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Alec
Baldwin, and Tom Sizemore, Voight will be taking the presidential
role once thought to have been offered to Gene Hackman.

****STAGE****
MADONNA EYES VAGINA MONOLOGUES
Madonna could be returning to the stage in The Vagina Monologues!
The very pregnant Material Mom met with producers last weekend to
discuss the possibility of making an appearance in the popular and
controversial play.

CONTACT, KATE WIN AT TONYS
Visit http://www.tonys.org/nominees/winners/ for complete list of
winners. Contact, the dance musical with no live or original music,
won four awards at Sunday night's Tony awards, including the prize
for best new musical. The acclaimed revival of Kiss Me, Kate
took home five trophies, including one for best musical revival.
Copenhagen was named best new play, and Tom Stoppard's The Real
Thing won the award for best revival of a play. Elton John and Tim
Rice, who didn't attend the ceremony, won the award for best
original score for Aida, which took home three additional awards
despite being denied a nomination for best new musical.

WHO WILL GET ANNIE'S GUN ON BROADWAY?
So long, Jasmine? The latest gossip on the Rialto
is that Broadway baby Bebe Neuwirth (also of Cheers and Frasier
fame), not Jasmine Guy, could replace Bernadette Peters in the
Broadway production of Annie Get Your Gun before Reba McEntire
possibly joins the show next year. Before you order your expensive
tickets, be forewarned that Baywatch himbo David Hasselhoff is
being sought for the role of Frank Butler.

WILL BABS RETURN TO BROADWAY?
Forget all the talk that Barbra Streisand is returning to TV in a
new version of Mame - speculation is rampant that Babs will return
to Broadway... to see stepson Josh Brolin and Elias Koteas in the
acclaimed production of Sam Shepard's True West. The duo replaces
Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly starting June 21.

BILL BELLAMY JOINS THE FROG NETWORK
Former MTV funnyman Bill Bellamy is returning to TV. The comedian
has signed a deal with the WB to develop and star in a comedy for
the fall 2001 season. "Bill's someone we've been pursuing all
year," WB honcho Susanne Daniels says. "He's good at physical
comedy but I
could also see him in a romantic comedy."

MURDER ONE RETURNS TO TV
Remember the ABC/Steven Bochco series Murder One? It's returning to
TV, this time on A&E starting June 22. A&E owns all 41 episodes and
will also screen an episode of Murder One that never aired on ABC.

TREBEK EXPLAINS FEUD WITH PHILBIN
Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek became a phone-a-friend to Who Wants to
Be a Millionairehost Regis Philbin after their recent "feud."
Trebek, who twice refused to appear on ABC's smash hit - and then
publicly mocked Millionaire for its "What color are Post-It
notes?" questions - told the Toronto Sun that he phoned Philbin to
make amends about his wisecracks. "You're getting a lot of mileage
out of this," Trebek says he told Philbin, who had ribbed Trebek
mercilessly on Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. "We're just having
fun," Trebek says Philbin told him. "It was completely blown out of
proportion," Trebek says of the feud. "I was just good-naturedly
poking fun at some of the questions on the show at an event in
Atlanta. It's unfortunate that some people have said there's a
feud," says Trebek. "I think if you see something in print, you
should track it down and go to the source. I've always been
accessible."

KATHIE LEE OFFERS ADVICE FOR HER SUCCESSOR
A battle-weary Kathie Lee Gifford has some advice for the unlucky
gal who replaces her as Regis Philbin's co-host on Live! With Regis
and Kathie Lee. "She's going to have a little honeymoon, and then
they're going to turn on her every bit as much," Gifford said
Tuesday during an appearance on Fox News Channel. "The minute
you're successful, that's the nature of the beast. And if she's
successful with Regis... she's going to have to know that fine line
between how much to kick his rear end and how much to kiss it."

SHOWTIME'S GIRL THINGS
What do Linda Hamilton, Rebecca DeMornay and Stockard Channing have
in common? They're set to star in the Showtime miniseries It's a
Girl Thing. The comedy/drama concerns a psychologist (Channing) and
four of her patients, and also features Mia Farrow, Camryn Manheim
and Peta Wilson.

***************SPOILER*********************
KEANU, GELLAR TOP MTV MOVIE AWARDS
Speaking of awards, Keanu Reeves and The Matrix won big at the MTV
Movie Awards on Saturday; the show will air Thursday night on MTV.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Cruel Intentions won two
awards each, including ones for Best Kiss (between Sarah Michelle
Gellar and Selma Blair) and Female Performance (Gellar).
*******************************************

CBS MAKES MIDSEASON PLANS
Is it too soon to start talking about midseason replacement
series? CBS has put in midseason orders for Kiss Me Guido and the
Alfred Molina/Sharon Lawrence series Ladies Man. Hey, what happened
to Falcone?

ROSIE'S GUARDS GET THEIR GUNS
Gun-control activist Rosie O'Donnell defends her use of armed
bodyguards, saying she needs extra security when she travels - but
wouldn't let guns in her house. "In public places, my security
people, who are off-duty policemen, have guns," she says. But
"the security people who work in my home do not have guns. The
statistic is that you're three times more likely to be a victim of
violence if you own a gun. That's why I choose not to have them in
my home," Rosie says.

SPIKE AND FRIENDS STAY UP LATE
Spike Lee, Danny Glover and Pam Grier are teaming up on a Showtime
murder mystery titled 3 A.M. Lee will serve as a producer, while
Grier and Glover will star in the pic, to be written by Lee David.
There is a chance the film could hit theaters before premiering on
Showtime.

HOWARD STERN PLAYS HARDBALL
Howard Stern has only six months left on his current contract with
CBS, but neither he nor his agent has discussed a new radio deal
with CBS. Don't despair, because CBS sources say the situation is
far from dire: "It'll happen; we want him to stay."

REGIS HITS THE BOOKS AGAIN
Busy boy Regis Philbin is writing another book, Who Wants to Be
Me?, slated to hit stores this fall. The humor book will include
Regis's observations on life in the public eye as
well as buying embarrassing products in the drugstore and battling
uncooperative gadgets. Our question: Is this your final book,
Regis?

NEW YORKERS GO MAD FOR SEX
The biggest stars in New York went crazy for Sex last night -
turning out in droves for a premiere screening of Sex and the
City's season opener. "I'm a New Yorker and it's always great to
walk down the street and see yourself on a billboard," said sultry
Sarah Jessica Parker, who stars in the HBO series that begins its
new season on Sunday. "I try not to ponder on our good fortune, I
just feel very lucky to have the success we're having." Parker and
a flock of other stars wowed the crowd at the 7 pm screening at the
United Artists theater on East 64th Street and Second Avenue.
Fellow HBO star Vincent Pastore, who played mobster Big Pussy on
The Sopranos, said he was wild about Sex. "The show rocks," Pastore
said.

O.J. CASTING UNDERWAY
Casting is underway for American Tragedy, the CBS miniseries about
the O.J. Simpson trial, and producers seem to be assembling a
Hollywood "Dream Team" to play O.J.'s Dream Team. Christopher
Plummer is in final talks to play F. Lee Bailey, while Bruno Kirby
will play Barry
Scheck.

3. MOVIE REVIEW - DVD
================================================

Edited by Laurie

FORCES OF NATURE - Sandra Bullock, Ben Affleck, Maura Tierney
This movie is just too adorable. Affleck plays a would-be-groom
who is trying to get to his wedding on time, when he meets Bullock
who completely changes his thinking about what he wants in life.
The attraction between the two stars is tangible and I actually
starting wishing he'd dump his fiancee and follow Bullock around
the world. The movie in a way that was surprising to me, but
perfectly fit the film. The DVD has bios, notes, trailers, a
behind-the-scenes featurette, and several deleted scenes.

STARSHIP TROOPERS - Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Dina Meyer,
Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon, Michael Ironside
Casper Van Dien...yummy...he's the reason I saw this in theaters.
I really enjoyed this film. At the time of the movie's release, a
lot of critics were making waves about some similarities between
the film and the Nazi party. I think that's reading a little too
deep into a decent sci-fi/action flick. Just as fair warning,
there are a lot of violent scenes involving decapitation and other
shots of alien/battle violence. Some people may have trouble with
a couple of these scenes. The DVD is an excellent display of
goodies. Special features include deleted scenes, commentary,
trailers, documentary, behind-the-scenes footage, screen tests for
the two stars, and various languages and subtitles.

SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER, AND UNCUT - Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and
Kenny
When I saw this in theaters, I laughed myself silly. When I got
the DVD I saw scenes that I missed the first time because I was
laughing so hard I missed them. Every newspaper and critic in the
country loved this film and one of the songs from the movie was
nominated for an Oscar this past year. If you're a South Park fan
then you probably know this movie by heart already, but for those
of you that have never seen it, I highly recommend it. Granted the
language and certain scenes are not for everyone and children
should not lay eyes on this film, but it is a truly funny film that
deserves an audience. The DVD features menus, trailers, and scene
access.

ROUNDERS - Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich, John
Turturro, Famke Janssen, Gretchen Mol, Martin Landau
I adore Damon and love Malkovich, so there is no way I could pass
up this film. The story is about a law student who is trying to
quit gambling to start a new life with his girlfriend and possible
law career. Enter an old best friend recently released from jail
who has one thing in mind...where is the nearest high-stakes game.
Damon gets sucked back into the world of dangerous poker and
gambling enemies. This movie is different than what I thought it
was going to be like. The cast does well together and the
narration of the action in the film is a touch that I really liked.
I enjoyed the film and was caught in the suspense until the last
card was dealt. The DVD just has a trailer on it which is the only
disappointing thing.

4. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
Ashley Judd
================================================

Birth Name: Ashley Judd
Born: April 9, 1968 - Granada Hills, California, USA

Ashley is named after her birthplace of Ashland, KY and is the
youngest daughter of the famous country singing Judd family. I
remember seeing Ashley for the first time in Star Trek The Next
Generation playing Wesley Crusher's girlfriend. From her Trekkie
start, she has gone on to become one of the most sought after
actresses in Hollywood. Romantically, she's been linked to such
stars as Robert DeNiro, who she met on the set of Heat, and Matthew
McConaughey, who she met while shooting A Time To Kill. She
recently became engaged to race car driver Dario Franchitti.
