HOLLYWOOD MEMORABILIA AUCTIONED
A few weeks back we reported that some Hollywood memorabilia was
scheduled to go up on the auction block, here are some items that
were auctioned and what they went for. A pair of ruby red slippers
from "The Wizard of Oz," one of four pairs known to exist - sold
for $666,000. Cowardly Lion original paw-style shoe, sold for
$25,850. 1937 Phantom III Rolls-Royce used in the 1964 James Bond
classic "Goldfinger." The car sold for $402,000. Several items
related to Marilyn Monroe were auctioned, including a certificate
of conversion to Judaism, which was signed by Monroe and her third
husband, playwright Arthur Miller. The certificate sold for
$49,350. A complete Superman costume worn by Christopher Reeve in
"Superman" and "Superman II" sold for $56,400, while Helen Slater's
costume worn in "Supergirl" sold for $12,925. Among the television
memorabilia offered for sale was a "Howdy Doody" marionette used in
the show's 1970s revival, which went for $14,100.

STERN CAMPAIGNS FOR CLASS PRESIDENT
Howard Stern has parents at a suburban Philadelphia high school up
in arms after the controversial talk jock endorsed an enterprising
student for class president. Stern delivered a G-rated speech
backing the junior over the school's PA system last Friday, and
parents are steamed that school officials allowed it. "As parents
and responsible citizens, we are insulted by Mr. Stern's
reprehensible rhetoric, and to find it in our schools is
unacceptable," said parent Nancy Deacon, reading from a petition
slamming the Neshaminy School District.

BEN STILLER WORKS THE RUNWAY
The actor/writer/director is in negotiations to direct and star in
the flick Zoolander, a comedy based on the naive supermodel
character he created for the VH1 Fashion Awards a few years back.
Scott Rudin would produce the pic for Paramount.

GOODING, CAAN 'IN THE SHADOWS'
Cuba Gooding Jr. and James Caan are set to star in the dramatic
indie thriller "In The Shadows." Matthew Modine and Joey Lauren
Adams also star in the film from first-time writer-director Ric
Roman Waugh. Production begins this week in Miami.

HARLIN TO DIRECT 'NOSEBLEED?'
Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Deep Blue Sea) is in talks to direct the
Jackie Chan film "Nosebleed". The action film would star Chan as a
World Trade Center window washer who gets involved with a waitress
who thinks terrorists are going to bomb the building again.

'FEATHERS' FOR LEDGER
Heath Ledger (The Patriot, Ten Things I Hate About You) is in
advanced talks to play the lead in the remake of the 1939 drama
"Four Feathers." Jude Law had originally been attached to the role.

STELLAR CAST
USA Films is developing a dark comedy which would star Billy Bob
Thornton, Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, and Penelope Cruz. Pedro
Almodovar is reportedly being eyed to direct.

WARREN TO JOIN 'CHAMPS'
Estella Warren has been tapped to star opposite Sylvester Stallone
in "Champs," for Warner Bros. Renny Harlin is helming the racing
project, which is slated to go before cameras in July. Til
Schweiger also stars. Warren, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model
and former nationally ranked Canadian synchronized swimmer, made
her acting debut in Michael Rymer's indie feature "Perfume," which
recently wrapped shooting in New York.

BAKER RETURNS FOR 'HANNIBAL'
It's been reported that Dyan Baker will reprise her "Silence of the
Lambs" role of Senator Ruth Martin in "Hannibal".

DANA CARVEY'S HEART TROUBLE
TV funnyman Dana Carvey says he pleaded, "Please, God, let me
live!" after doctors botched his double-bypass operation and left
him at death's door. Carvey, 45, bared his agony as he spoke for
the first time about the horrific hospital error that nearly cost
him his life. "They bypassed the wrong artery. I can't believe they
bypassed the wrong artery!" the blond-haired jokeman tells this
week's People magazine. "It's like removing the wrong kidney - it's
that big of a mistake."

AMERICAN ACTRESS COMMITS SUICIDE IN RIO
American actress Lois Hamilton, who fled the country last year
rather than face a prison term for a drunken-driven charge in Los
Angeles, was found dead in a hotel room in Rio de Janeiro in
December, an apparent suicide. Hamilton, 57, appeared in films with
Burt Reynolds and John Candy as well as a 1984 TV-movie with Susan
Lucci.

WILLIS JOINS 'OCEANS' REMAKE
Bruce Willis has signed on to star in Steven Soderbergh's remake
of "Oceans 11".

VITAMIN C HITS THE SCREEN
Musician Vitamin C is taking a bite out of the film world. The
singer, known for her current hit "Graduation (Friends Forever),"
will play one of Dracula's victims in Wes Craven Presents: Dracula
2000, and Jennifer Esposito will play a master thief. The title
role has not been cast.

*******STAGE******

CAPTAIN'S LOG: APOLOGY
Patrick Stewart, the Star Trek actor who boldly went where no man
had gone before when he blasted the Shubert Organization for
neglecting his Broadway play, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, will not
appeal an Actors' Equity arbitration committee ruling that ordered
him to write a written apology. Stewart is expected to deliver the
apology to Shubert honcho Gerald Schoenfeld next week.

CYBILL STAR SKIPS DINNER
Sardonic Cybill star Christine Baranski isn't coming to Dinner. The
actress is dropping out of the upcoming Broadway production of The
Man Who Came to Dinner starring Nathan Lane due to a TV
committment. Jean Smart, late of Designing Women, will replace
Baranski as Lorraine Sheldon.

J.R. EWING TEAMS UP WITH JESUS
Former Dallas star Larry Hagman teams up with Jesus in the play
Murder in the First, running June 1 to 25 at the Rubicon Theater in
Ventura, CA. Confused? Ted Neeley, who played Jesus in the film
version of Jesus Christ Superstar plays Henri Young, an Alcatraz
prisoner, in the play, while Hagman has a small role as a judge.
Linda Gray, best known as Sue Ellen on Dallas, directs.

JASMINE GET YOUR GUN?
Looks like Broadway producers of Annie Get Your Gun finally cast a
replacement for Bernadette Peters. Jasmine Guy (A Different World,
Melrose Place) will replace Peters from September to January, and
then singer Reba McEntire will assume the role.

THIEVES LOVE RAYMOND VIDEOS
Somebody really loves Raymond! A truck carrying 9,600 Emmy screener
copies of Everybody Loves Raymond was stolen late Wednesday in
North Hollywood, CA. The tapes were supposed to be sent out to Emmy
voters, but series executive producer Phil Rosenthal doesn't think
the theft - and subsequent delay in distributing the tapes - will
affect Raymond's chances of getting nominated. "I don't think it
will make one bit of difference; 9,600 housekeepers will have to
wait for the tapes," he quipped.

RUMORS OF MATTHEW PERRY'S HEALTH
For the last several days, tabloids have been saying that Matthew
Perry needs a liver transplant due to alcohol abuse when in fact
doesn't need a liver transplant after all. A spokesman for the
actor tells Britain's Press Association: "Contrary to what is being
reported as fact in regard to Matthew Perry's health, it is
completely untrue that he needs a liver transplant." Meanwhile,
numerous papers continue to speculate that the actor might need to
go back to rehab.

SNL SCORES AWESOME RATINGS
The NBC late-night series, which celebrated its 25th anniversary
this year, had its best May sweeps performance since 1994. This
year's season finale, featuring Jackie Chan and Kid Rock, bested
last year's finale, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar and the
Backstreet Boys, by 13 percent.

MICHAEL J. FOX LEAVES CITY TO BIG RATINGS
The season finale of Spin City - which served as Michael J. Fox's
swan song - delivered the show's best ever ratings among adults 18
to 49. The show's incredible performance helped ABC tie NBC in the
coveted demographic of adults 18 to 49. The victory marks the first
time ABC has captured a May sweeps title among adults 18 to 49
since 1994.

SHOWTIME TELLS TALES
Showtime will broadcast a third miniseries based on Armistead
Maupin's Tales of the City novels. The new project, titled
Armistead Maupin's Further Tales
of the City, will star Laura Linney, Parkey Posey and Olympia
Dukakis, and is set to film in Montreal and San Francisco.

SITCOM PRODUCER DEAD AT 88
Veteran sitcom producer Al Simon died last week of complications
from Alzheimer's disease at age 88. Simon's production credits
include The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, The Beverly
Hillbillies, Green Acres and Mr. Ed; he also worked on Truth or
Consequences.

OUT OF THE RUNNING
Rosie O'Donnell is taking herself out of the running for future
Emmy consideration. "Thank you very much, but I've had my share,"
she says. "I felt a little gluttonous." O'Donnell just won her
fourth Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host in four attempts, and
feels that it's someone else's turn to take home the gold.

KENNEDY CASTING FOR MINISERIES
Robert Knepper will play Bobby and Matthew Letscher will play
Edward in the upcoming NBC miniseries Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The
Women of Camelot; no word on who will play the title ladies. The
project is scheduled to air next season.

NBC MIGHT BRING BACK FREAKS
NBC might revive Freaks and Geeks for one night this summer in a
three-episode mini-marathon edited from the series's five unaired
episodes.

CBS BRINGS BACK FALCONE
CBS confirms that it is relaunching Falcone Saturdays at 10 pm/ET,
starting June 10.

SHOWTIME FOR CHRIS ISAAK
Showtime is playing a wicked game with a new series thanks to a
deal with crooner/actor Chris Isaak. The cable network has
committed to 17 episodes of The Chris Isaak Show, scheduled to
debut late this year. The show will mix fact and fiction with Isaak
and his real-life band interacting with a cast of fictional
characters.

BARBARA WALTERS ON RUMOR PATROL
Barbara Walters, the den mother of ABC's female-friendly talk show,
The View, has put the kibosh on rumors that she is feuding with
Diane Sawyer. "Diane is simply wonderful," she announced Wednesday
on Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. "She is working her heart out
on [Good Morning America]. Better she than I! But I am so sick of
[the gossip that we're feuding]." Walters also squashed reports
that Lisa Ling will leave The View to become Regis's new partner.
"According to Lisa she didn't know where [that rumor] came from.
Also, she has a contract. She's very happy where she is." So now
you know.

Galaxy Quest (1999) (PG)

When an alien race--the Thermians--arrives on earth, it appears
that they have mistakenly appropriated the show's culture as their
own, thinking the series was actual fact. Desperate for help in
battling the evil General Sarris, they bring the actors with them
into space to save their planet. A surprisingly smart and funny
send-up of the science-fiction culture and the influence television
has on the world at large, GALAXY QUEST is a comedy that even
non-genre fans can enjoy.

Stars: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Daryl Mitchell,
Enrico Colantoni, Sam Rockwell, Robin Sachs, Alan Rickman
