RICKY AND NATALIE GET DIRTY?
It seems Natalie Portman and Ricky Martin are in preliminary talks
to star in a sequel to Dirty Dancing! Artisan Entertainment and
Miramax Pictures are producing the pic, which will be set in Miami
Beach, not the Catskills.

STEWART'S FATE UNCLEAR
Patrick Stewart appeared before an Actors Equity committee to
defend himself against the Shuberts' complaint that he acted
unprofessionally when, after a performance of The Ride Down Mt.
Morgan, he denounced the Shuberts, producers of the show, for
failing to market and promote it properly. Alan Eisenberg, the head
of Actors Equity, confirmed that the committee had reached a
decision. But he said the union had requested that both Stewart and
the Shuberts keep the result private "until the appeal process has
been completed." That process will take 10 days.

BILLY BOB SINGS!
Billy Bob Thornton, famous for his backward characters(Sling
Blade, A Simple Plan) and his recent marriage to kooky actress
Angelina Jolie, is hoping to make it big as a singing star. The
actor's spending a lot of time in a Big Apple recording
studio - with Jolie faithfully at his side - working on his debut
album.

HASSELHOFF TO STAR IN 'SPROCKETS'?
Reports are that David Hasselhoff may play the villain in Mike
Myers "Sprockets" feature film.

GWYNETH, RALPH AND AARON, POSSESSED?
Talk about a stellar cast! Gwyneth Paltrow, Ralph Fiennes and
Aaron Eckhart are in preliminary negotiations to star in the flick
Possession, based on the novel of the same name about two
present-day academics who reconstruct the love
lives of a pair of Victorian-era poets.

JESSE "THE MUSICAL" VENTURA?
Get ready for a musical about Jesse Ventura! Big-time producer
Pierre Cossette has signed a deal with the Minnesota governor and
former wrestling star to turn the controversial life story of "The
Body" into an all-out production. "It'll be like [the movie] Rocky,
only with music and dance," Cossette says.

GOOD ADVICE FOR DENISE RICHARDS
The World Is Not Enough for sexy Denise Richards, who is trying her
hand at comedy in Good Advice opposite Charlie Sheen. Richards will
play an advice columnist who abandons her career and her banker
boyfriend after he loses his money.

TOM AND GWYNETH DON'T RATE
Forget the Oscars, Emmys and Tonys! The results of Jane's Jane 2000
Entertainment Poll are in, and Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow are
the big losers! The two were voted Most Overrated Male and
Female Actor, respectively. Ironically, Paltrow was also named the
Most Glamorous Celeb.

LIZ HURLEY, UP IN SMOKE
Elizabeth Hurley is a real sucker when it comes to quitting
smoking! The sexy brunette actress is using a baby pacifier to try
to kick her 10-cig-a-day habit. Hurley's so convinced it'll work
that she has no problem going out in public with the plastic nipple
in her mouth. She got the idea from behavioral expert and The Naked
Ape author Desmond Morris, who says smoking is a throwback to a
baby's desire to suck on something soft - and can be cured by using
a pacifier. Hurley's spokesman told London's
Express newspaper the unusual practice is working.

UPCOMING HANKS FILM
Alan Ball is scripting an untitled drama for Universal, which Tom
Hanks would produce and star in. The film will be based on an idea
from Hanks about a Cleveland cop in the early 1960s investigating
the murder of a loved one.

TOM AND NICOLE TO HIT UK STAGE?
Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are in talks to star
in a new British staging of Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof, according to the London Express. American Beauty
director Sam Mendes, who also guided Kidman in the play The Blue
Room, would direct.

RETURN TO LIVING ISLAND
Wonderfully weird 1970s kiddie show H.R. Pufnstuf is coming to DVD
on May 23. The four-episode disc will feature all the bizarre
characters of Living Island, including Witchiepoo, Freddy Flute,
Dr. Blinky the Owl and, of course, Mayor H.R. Pufnstuf. The Rhino
Home Video release will also feature a new interview with star Jack
Wild plus two karaoke singalongs.

NBC'S SITCOMS DO THE SHUFFLE
Move over, Frasier! There's a 50/50 chance NBC will move Will &
Grace to Frasier's coveted 9 pm/ET Thursday time slot; Paramount
and series star Kelsey Grammer are said to be against the move.
Meanwhile, NBC is canceling Twenty One, The Others, Profiler, The
Pretender, Jesse, Stark Raving Mad and Veronica's Closet.

LEANN RIMES SUES HER FATHER
Teen country crooner LeAnn Rimes is suing her father and her

million. The BBC reports that Rimes filed a suit in Dallas County
District Court asking for unspecified damages because she's not
sure exactly how much money is missing.

GEORGE CLOONEY RETURNS TO ER
In case you're living under a rock, George Clooney made a brief
return to ER Thursday night as his character, Dr. Doug Ross, was
reunited with nurse Carol Hathaway. How did the show pull it off
without tipping off the media? Honchos at Warner Bros. TV, which
produces the series, kept the twist a secret from NBC until
Wednesday. In a statement, ER executive producer John Wells said
that Clooney made the cameo "for an old friend and for the many
fans of this long-running storyline."

BOBBY BROWN BACK IN JAIL
Bad boy singer Bobby Brown was arrested Wednesday at Newark (NJ)
International Airport on an outstanding warrant accusing him of
violating probation in a drunken-driving case. Brown, hubby of

Thursday and is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court there on May
22. We hope he's out in time to buy Whitney's greatest hits CD, due
out in stores
next week.

WCW WRESTLER ARRESTED

Journal-Register. Police said the 6-foot, 240-pound Bagwell faces a
possible charge of battery for bopping the unnamed victim.

DARVA CONGER POSES NUDE FOR PLAYBOY
In a twist that seems straight out of a bad soap opera, Christie
Hefner has confirmed that Darva Conger (best known for marrying a
multimillionaire on Fox a few months back) will pose nude for an
upcoming issue of Playboy. "Darva is meeting with Hef right now to
work out a schedule for promoting the issue," Christie told the
company's shareholders on Wednesday.

'FRIENDS' BACK FOR 2 MORE YEARS
NBC will keep its "Friends" for two more years, but the six actors
who star in the sitcom will be getting a lot more money to hang
around. The six "Friends" will be paid $750,000 per episode for
each year up from $125,000 per episode. They were also given a
greater percentage of the profits from the sitcom's lucrative
syndication deals, giving them each a total of $40 million over two
years, executives said on Sunday.

IT'S OFFICIAL! CHRISTENSEN TO PLAY ANIKAN
Hayden Christensen, The 19-year-old actor from Toronto, was
selected to portray Anakin Skywalker, picking up the part from Jake
Lloyd, who starred in "Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace."
Over the course of the next two films, Christensen will become
involved with Queen Amidala, played by Natalie Portman, and his
character will eventually devolve into the villain Darth Vader.

DREW BARRYMORE'S MOM FACES GUN CHARGE
Actress Drew Barrymore's estranged mother was charged with gun
possession early Saturday morning after police caught her putting
up promotional posters, police said. Jaid Barrymore, 53, was caught
putting up the posters, which promoted a rock band, around 2 a.m.
ET, police said. After searching Barrymore's handbag, police said
they found a loaded .357-caliber Magnum handgun. Barrymore was
charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and
illegal postering.

SPACEY DENIES CLOUSEAU SPECULATION
Spacey snapped Friday in an interview in the Toronto Star going on
the attack to deny that he was in talks to take on the role of
Inspector Clouseau in MGM's long-in-the-works remake of "The Pink
Panther." "There is no material, they've made no offer, and there's
been no negotiations."

WRESTLER EYES BIG SCREEN
Wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is in final negotiations to make
his feature film acting debut in an indie movie about famed 1960s
musician Janis Joplin. In the race to bring Joplin's story to the
big screen, director-producer Joel Freedman is at the starting gate
with "Joplin: The Movie." Singer-actress Laura Theodore will star
in the film with Jennifer Tilly and Austin. Sam Andrew, guitarist
for Joplin's first band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, will
also appear in the film.

TOUCHED BY A GOLDEN GIRL ON CBS
Here's something for the grandparents: Della Reese and Rue
McClanahan are teaming up to star in the CBS TV-movie The Moving of
Sophia Myles. Reese plays a minister's widow who refuses to move
out of the rectory after her husband's death and McClanahan plays a
church member who tries to convince
Reese's character to make a moving decision.

HBO NABS 'N SYNC
If you like 'N Sync as much as we do at TV Guide Online you'll be

concert for TV July 27 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

BILLY RAY BECOMES A DOCTOR
Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus is about to become a TV star! The
Achy Breaky one will play a country doctor working for a New York
HMO in Doc, an upcoming series for PAX TV. "This was written for

USA TO LAUNCH STRIP POKER

stations in Miami, Dallas and Atlanta, debuts on USA in the 11

filmmaker Tony Palmer has been signed to direct, and writer Shane
Connaughton, who wrote "My Left Foot," will co-write with Flatley.

3. MOVIE REVIEW - DVD
================================================

Edited by Laurie

Dogma - Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman
I was a little weary about getting this movie because I had read
about all the controversy when it was first released. I have to
admit I was pleasantly surprised that the film is as good as it is.
In fact, the cast, plot, and general feel of the movie makes it one
of my top ten favorites for last year. The story is about two
angels who were thrown out of heaven, but now they have found a
loophole which will allow them to return. The only problem is that
returning to heaven proves God wrong and that could prove deadly to
all existence. Just as a fair warning...the content and language
of the film may offend a lot of people. The DVD has trailers and
actor bios, but nothing spectacular.

Galaxy Quest - Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman
I bought this one to keep up with the Alan Rickman theme of the
day...hehe. To be honest, the film is really good. Parts of it
were so completely clever and genuinely funny, that it took me by
surprise. The story is about an alien race that mistakes a Science
Fiction TV show cast as being real space heroes. The aliens beam
aboard the cast and ask them to save the universe from a hostile
alien bad-guy. The DVD is loaded with really neat graphics
including a very high-tech interactive menu and deleted scenes.

Being John Malkovich - John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, John Malkovich
I've seen this movie twice since I bought it and I'm still not sure
what I think about it. The first 40 minutes are some of the most
boring film I've seen in ages, but the storyline is so different
that it forces you to keep watching. I love Cusack and Malkovich,
but this film will take some getting used to. The movie is about a
struggling puppeteer who finds work as a file manager. In his new
office, he finds a door that transports you into the mind of John
Malkovich. Figuring he can make an easy buck, he decides to charge
his co-workers $200 a trip to be John Malkovich for 15 minutes.
Definitely a strange, but decent flick. The DVD features are
hysterical. There's a section of the disc entitled "A page with
nothing on it." You click on it thinking it's a joke and you see a
screen that says, "There's nothing on this page." The disc also
has several featurettes, bios, and interviews.

Mystery Alaska - Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds, Hank Azaria
This is a completely charming feel-good flick. The film is set in
Mystery, Alaska, a town that has a lot of strange citizens and a
slight obsession with hockey. One day their sleepy little hollow
is turned upside down by a publicity stunt which brings the New
York Rangers to town for a hockey game. The story has a Mighty
Ducks meets Iron Will kind of quality to it. This is definitely a
good one for the whole family. The DVD only features a trailer and
a behind-the-scenes mini-movie.

================================================
4. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
Russell Crowe
================================================

Birth Name: Russell Crowe
Born: April 7, 1964 - Wellington, New Zealand

This New Zealand born and Australia raised actor is finally making
his long awaited mark on American film. His first major role was
Romper Stomper, which was done in Australia. Sharon Stone heard of
him thanks to this film and waited for him to finish shooting a
different film so that he could work with her in The Quick and the
Dead. From there he went on to star with Denzel Washington in
Virtuosity, playing a computer generated serial killer. Most of
the U.S. got to know Russell in L.A. Confidential. I still think
he should've gotten Oscar for his role as the tough cop, but he did
receive an Oscar nomination for The Insider with Al Pacino. You
can see Russell Crowe in Gladiator which is currently in theaters
or in Mystery, Alaska on DVD with VHS being released soon
nationwide.
