that Laurie lives in was not spared, because of this she was not

THE 'STAR WARS' SCOOP
Director George Lucas has lined up Hayden Christensen to play
Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II (2002). Christensen, 19,
was last seen in the flick, "Trapped In A Purple Haze", costarring
another former contender for the role, Jonathan Jackson.
Additionally, it appears Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions) will
play Bail Organa in the film, and Tom Hanks' son Colin (Whatever It
Takes, Roswell) will play the adult version of Anakin's friend
Kitster. Christian Bale (American Psycho) and Sean Patrick Flanery
(Simply Irresistible, Powder) have also been rumored to have read
for the role of Bail Organa.
NEW 'SPIDER-MAN' VILLAINS REVEALED
Word on the streets is that the villains in Sam Raimi's upcoming
"Spider-Man" film will be the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. When
James Cameron was most recently attached to the project, he was
looking to use Electro and Sandman. Artist Alex Ross is also in
talks to provide conceptual artwork for the production.
SPEILBERG'S LEGO MOVIE KIT
Steven Spielberg is teaming up with toy industry giant Lego to
create a digital movie-making kit that lets children create and
edit their own films. Plans for the Lego Studios Steven Spielberg
MovieMaker were unveiled Tuesday, but it will not hit store
shelves until November.
BECKINSALE JOINS CUSACK IN 'SERENDIPITY'
Kate Beckinsale is in final negotiations to star opposite John
Cusack in Miramax's romantic comedy "Serendipity" for director
Peter Chelsom. The project will shoot on location in New York and
Toronto in July. "Serendipity" is about two college students who
meet and fall in love in one night. Ten years later - when each is
on the verge of marriage to someone else - they become convinced
that they are soulmates and embark on a race against time to find
each other.
PLUMMER SIGNS TO NEW 'DRACULA'
Reports are that Christopher Plummer (Insider) will play vampire
hunter Abraham Van Helsing in "Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000".
PEARCE JOINS 'MONTE CRISTO'
It's being reported that Guy Pearce (Rules of Engagement) has
joined Jim Cavaziel in "The Count of Monte Cristo" for Disney and
Spyglass Entertainment. Director Kevin Reynolds plans to start
shooting the big-budget live-action project based on the Alexandre
Dumas classic in Ireland at the end of July. The story involves a
sailor sent to an island fortress after being falsely accused of
treason. Pearce will be playing the role of Fernand.
SCOTT TO DIRECT 'HOT ZONE'?
Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal) is back in talks to direct an
adaptation of Richard Preston's Ebola virus medical thriller "Hot
Zone". Robert Redford and Jodie Foster had at one point been
attached to star.
BILLY BOB AND ANGELINA TIE THE KNOT
Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie got married last Friday in
Las Vegas, his spokesperson confirms. The marriage is Thornton's
fifth and Jolie's second, and comes on the heels of weeks of rumors
that the two had already tied the knot.
BATES SET FOR FIRST FILM
Music video and television director Russell Bates is set to make
his feature directorial debut on New Regency Prods.' "Freddy Got
Fingered," with actor-comedian Tom Green ("Road Trip") committed to
star. "Freddy" is slated to start filming in mid-July. The budget
has not yet been finalized. The flick involves a man who is forced
to move back in with his parents. His father wants him out, but the
slacking son refuses to budge. Freddy is the character name of
Green's more-grounded brother in the project.
'JOE DIRT' CASTING
On Sunday we reported that Denise Gordon was in negotiations to
direct the David Spade comedy "The Adventures of Joe Dirt". Kid
Rock is now reported to be coming aboard. Dirt also stars Roseanne,
Gary Busey, Erik Sullivan (Malcolm in the Middle), Brittany Daniel
(Dawson's Creek), and Joe Don Baker (Tomorrow Never Dies).
ACTOR DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS JR. DIES
Douglas Fairbanks Jr, known for his appearences in such films as
"Catherine the Great," "The Prisoner of Zenda," "Gunga Din,"
"Little Caesar," "Sinbad the Sailor" and "State Secret," died at
Mount Sinai Hospital Sunday. He was 90.
LEWIS STALKER ARRESTED AGAIN
A man who served a prison sentence for stalking Jerry Lewis is in
custody again. Gary Benson, 56, who completed his Nevada prison
term in September, was arrested Friday in Wyoming, the FBI said.
According to the agency, Lewis received an April 5 letter that
said: "Dear Jerry. Your dead. Your friend, Gary Benson." Benson, of
Sheridan, Wyo., was charged with one count of aggravated stalking
and one count of violation of an extended protective order. Benson
pleaded guilty in May 1995 to aggravated stalking, a felony. He
initially was sentenced to probation, but was ordered to prison for
continuing to harass Lewis.
MULRONY JOINS 'INVESTIGATING SEX'
Dermot Mulroney has been added to the cast of "Investigating Sex"
opposite Nick Nolte, Neve Campbell, Robin Tunney and Julie Delpy.
The film is about a group of men studying sex scientifically and
the female stenographers who transcribe their erotically charged
discussions. Eventually, the lines of professionalism break down.
MIRAMAX ENTERS NEW DEAL
Miramax has entered into a two-picture/two-book deal with novelist
Steve Monroe and producer Mark Mower. The studio has optioned
feature film rights to Monroe's manuscript "'57 Chicago" and book
proposal "'46 Chicago." "'57" due out in spring 2001. It's
described as an edgy, fictional tale that details the two weeks
leading up to a big fight in Chicago as experienced by the bookies,
promoters, bettors, police detectives and organized crime members
involved. "'46" is about a cop working the Chicago streets after
surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.
SMITH, KIRKWOOD JOIN 'FORSAKEN'
It's being reported that Kerr Smith (Dawson's Creek, Final
Destination) will play the lead in the vampire film "Forsaken".
Bryan Kirkwood (One World) will also star.
MEAT LOAF, OTHERS ADDED TO 'SALTON SEA'
Rocker Meat Loaf ("Fight Club"), Azura Skye ("28 Days") and model
Shalom Harlow ("In & Out") have been added to the cast of crime
thriller "Salton Sea." The story centers on a man (Val Kilmer) who
goes undercover as a drug dealer to avenge his wife's death. Skye
and Harlow play crystal meth addicts, while Meat Loaf plays a meth
dealer.
'ER' ACTOR IN THE 'DEEP END'
Goran Visnjic ("ER," "Committed") has signed to star in the indie
film "The Deep End." Tilda Swinton also stars in the film about a
good-hearted man (Visnjic) caught up in a blackmail scheme.
BECK MAY DIRECT '13 GHOSTS' REMAKE
Steve Beck is in negotiations to direct a remake of the William
Castle horror film "13 Ghosts". The film will be a scarier take
on the original, which involved a family inheriting a mansion whose
ghosts could only be seen through special glasses.
COLTRANE ADDED TO CAST OF 'FROM HELL'
British actor Robbie Coltrane ("The World Is Not Enough") has been
added to the cast of "From Hell," in which he and Johnny Depp
portray detectives investigating Jack the Ripper's London killings.

'FRASIER' TO STAR IN 'MACBETH'
TV's 'Frasier", Kelsey Grammer is making himself at home in New
York City this summer so he can play the lead in "Macbeth" on
Broadway. Grammer just wrapped the film "15 Minutes," in which he
stars as a tabloid journalist opposite Robert De Niro and Ed Burns.
CAMERAS GIVEN THE NOD IN NICHOLS TRIAL
Court TV won the right Monday to televise the state trial of
Oklahoma City bombing suspect Terry Nichols. Associate District
Judge Robert Murphy Jr. ruled that an Oklahoma canon prohibiting
cameras in the courtroom was unconstitutional.
NEW FLICK FOR 'TBS'
"Acceptable Risk," based on the novel by Cook, is about an
ambitious medical researcher who discovers a mold that he thinks
could act as a mood-elevating pain reliever, but he unleashes
terror when he uses it on himself.
'BULL' FOR TUCCI
Stanley Tucci will appear in a recurring role on TNT's first
original series, Bull. Tucci will play Hunter Lasky in the series
about a team of investment bankers and traders, and is slated to
appear in at least six episodes. Former soap babes Alicia Coppola
(Another World) and Elisabeth Rohm (One Life to Live) also star.
BARBARA WALTERS HONORED
Barbara Walters is being honored for her accomplishments with a
lifetime achievement award at the 27th annual Daytime Emmy Awards,
televised May 19 on ABC. Oprah Winfrey will present Walters with
the award, and Susan Lucci hosts the affair.
SIENFELD ON A STAMP
Well his New York apartment anyway, seems the U.S. Postal Service
thinks so much of the show that it has featured it as part of a
15-stamp collection series representing "pivotal and significant
people, places, events and trends from the 1990s." The hit show,
the post office reckons, "added a unique touch of quirkiness to a
decade and permanently affected pop culture as a result.
