STEWART LASHES OUT
In what's turning out to be one of Broadway's greatest feuds, the
powerful Shubert Organization yesterday declared war on Patrick
Stewart, the outspoken star of Arthur Miller's The Ride Down Mt.
Morgan. In a complaint filed yesterday with Actors Equity, the
Shuberts demanded that Stewart apologize for remarks he made
attacking them over the weekend. After performing the show on
Saturday, Stewart, who rose to stardom as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in
TV's Star Trek: The Next Generation, stood on the stage of the
Ambassador Theatre and blasted the Shuberts, who are producing the
play, for failing to promote and advertise it properly.
"Arthur Miller and I no longer have confidence in our producers'
commitment to this production - especially the Shubert
Organization," he told stunned audiences.
