BENNING, BEATTY HAVE BABY GIRL
Annette Bening and Warren Beatty have an American Beauty to boast
about: A baby girl. The name and weight of the child, as well as
where and when she was born, were not disclosed. "Everybody's doing
well," Bening's publicist Nancy Seltzer said Tuesday.
DILLON AND 'CONGENIALITY'
Matt Dillon is set to join Sandra Bullock and Michael Caine in the
comedy "Miss Congeniality." The project is slated to go before
cameras next month with Donald Petrie at the helm. "Congeniality"
is about an FBI agent (Bullock) who goes undercover as a beauty
pageant contestant to thwart the efforts of a group threatening to
bomb the event. Caine plays an image consultant who must transform
Bullock from a tough cop into Miss New Jersey, while Dillon
portrays a hardcore FBI agent who trains Bullock in fighting
techniques and finds there is sexual tension between them.
AWARD WINNING FILM TO BE ALTERED
Several graphic pictures showing the bodies of slain Israeli
athletes will be blurred in an Academy Award-winning documentary on
the massacre at the 1972 Munich Olympics, a producer said Tuesday.
The filmmakers agreed to the changes at the request of the families
of the athletes who were upset by the pictures, said Arthur Cohen,
who produced the documentary. It is fairly unusual to change a film
after it has been released, but Cohen said that despite misgivings,
the filmmakers owed it to the families to make the alterations in
"One Day In September." The film won the Academy Award last month
for Best Feature Documentary.
GRANT MAY JOIN "DIARY"
Hugh Grant is in negotiations to star in Bridget Jones' "Diary".
The UNIVERSAL Production, which begins shooting in London on May
1st, stars Renee Zellweger in the title role.
SORVINO TO PLAY 'SHI'?
According to COMICS CONTINUUM, Billy Tucci announced at
Orlando's MEGACON that the movie based on his comic series
SHI will now likely star Mira Sorvino instead of Tia Carrere.
Tucci also mentioned the film has moved from FRANCHISE Pictures
to WARNER BROS., and will have a budget of around $40 million,
opposed to one around $15 million.
LOVE'S "GHOSTS OF MARS"
Courtney Love is in final negotiations for a seven-figure payday to
star opposite Ice Cube and Jason Statham in John Carpenter's
"Ghosts of Mars." The project is targeted to start shooting in
early summer. Love would play a police lieutenant in the sci-fi
thriller set 174 years in the future. The screenplay, co-written by
Carpenter, centers on a group of human colonists on Mars who must
unite for survival after being threatened by vengeful Martian
ghosts.
CUSACK IN 'SWEET SMELL'?
reports are that John Cusack (High Fidelity) is in negotiations
to star in and executive produce a contemporary remake of the
showbiz drama SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS. Cusack would play the
sleazy press agent who, in the original, was hired by a newspaper
gossip columnist to stop his sister from marrying a jazz musician.
SHOOTING BEGINS ON "TRAFFIC"
Production began on Steven Soderbergh's ensemble drama
TRAFFIC. The film, about America's war on drugs,
features a cast that includes Michael Douglas, Catherine
Zeta-Jones, Dennis Quaid, James Brolin, Benicio Del Toro and more.
LUCAS GOES DIGITAL FOR NEXT FILM
George Lucas is going digital to shoot much of the next chapter of
his "Star Wars" saga. After pioneering digital projection in movie
theaters with "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," Lucas
said most of the live-action scenes for "Episode II" will be shot
using six digital, high-definition camcorders instead of film
cameras. Lucas made the decision after trial runs with a prototype
camera made by Sony and Panavision. "The tests have convinced me
that the familiar look and feel of motion picture film are fully
present," Lucas said Sunday in a message on his official "Star
Wars" Web site. "The quality of the two is indistinguishable on the
large screen." "Episode II" begins shooting in June in Australia.
MURPHY BACK IN DOOLITTLE2
"Doctor Dolittle" did so well for 20th Century Fox that the studio
is moving forward on a sequel and is in final negotiations with
Steve Carr to direct $20 million player Eddie Murphy in "Doctor
Dolittle 2," sources said last week. The project would begin
shooting shortly after Murphy completes "Pluto Nash" for Castle
Rock, with plans for a summer 2001 release. Murphy officially came
aboard the project in February in a deal that will pay him $20
million against 20% of the gross. "Dolittle" was Fox's second
highest-grossing film of 1998, bringing in $144.2 million.
40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS
HEARING THAT Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek) and Ashton Kutcher (That
'70s Show) are attached to star in 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS, a
romantic comedy about a man (Kutcher) who gives up physical contact
with women for 40 days. Michael Lehmann (The Truth About Cats and
Dogs) will direct the MIRAMAX/UNIVERSAL joint venture.
BODY DOUBLE KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT
A movie double for Russell Crowe, who is filming "Proof of Life" in
Ecuador, was killed Sunday when a pickup truck carrying members of
the production went off a mountain road and tumbled some 450 feet
into a gorge, police said. stuntman Willie Garner, whose age and
hometown were not released, died of apparent multiple fractures and
massive trauma in the accident. Five members of the production crew
also were injured. None of the film's principal actors - Crowe, Meg
Ryan, David Morse and David Caruso - were riding in the truck.
PHANTOM MENACE ON THE RIGHT TRACK
"Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" is on track to be among
the all-time leaders on the video sell-through charts. 20th Century
Fox Home Entertainment is reporting that 5 million copies have sold
in North America since the box office bombshell landed in video and
retail stores last Tuesday. Fox estimates that the title has
already brought in $100 million in revenue. "The Lion King" is the
No. 1 domestic selling VHS title of all time, with an estimated 30
million-plus units sold. "Titanic" has sold an estimated 25 million
units, including a reported 14 million copies in its first week on
shelves as a sell-through title. About 500,000 of the purchased
"Menace" copies have been the studio's special widescreen video
collector's edition. This enhanced version contains a
behind-the-scenes documentary as well as a 35mm film strip of the
original theatrical release. Industry sources said that Fox has
shipped about 15 million units of "Menace."
MORE LEGAL TROUBLES FOR PRYOR
Ailing comedian Richard Pryor faces more legal complications. Loud
Records of Delaware has asked a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to
determine who owns the rights to master recordings of some of
Pryor's performances. Loud claims it paid $200,000 for the material
in 1998 in an agreement with a company called Found Money Inc.
Pryor says he owns the masters.
OSCAR WINNER TREVOR DIES
Claire Trevor, the sultry-voiced actress who appeared in more than
60 films and won an Academy Award for her 1948 performance as a
boozy, broken-down torch singer in "Key Largo," died Saturday.
Trevor died at a hospital near her Newport Beach home.
MORE AWARDS FOR 'BEAUTY'
"American Beauty," was the big winner again Sunday at the Orange
British Academy Awards, taking six prizes including best picture.
"American Beauty" stars Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening were named
best actor and actress, but the film's Oscar-winning director Sam
Mendes was beaten for the best director award by Spanish filmmaker
Pedro Almodovar for "All About My Mother."

3. MOVIE REVIEW - VHS
================================================
Edited by Laurie
I broke down and bought a VHS tape for the first time in 6 months.
The only reason I did it is because George Lucas will not release
any of the Star Wars films to DVD until he can make them
spectacular...which he figures will be in 2005. I couldn't wait
that long to see this film again. I'm adding this today because a
lot of people at work have been asking me what the Widescreen
Special Edition is like before they buy it themselves. Here's the
answer.
STAR WARS EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE - Liam Neeson, Ewan
McGregor, and Yoda - I bought the Widescreen Special Edition the
day it came out, but I didn't have time to see it until today. The
special edition has the Widescreen version of the film which is a
must if you love Star Wars, a decent book showing storyboard
concepts of the special effects, and a card that has 5 frames from
a section of the actual movie. Plus, the film is done in THX as is
all of Lucas' films since his company designed and developed the
THX technology. The movie itself is a technological marvel and
really does well maintaining the Star Wars universe. A definite
must-own film.

Birth Name: Woodrow Tracy Harrelson

Woody Harrelson grew up in Lebanon, Ohio. He received degrees in
theatre arts and English from Hanover College, Indiana. His career
began in New York theatre as an understudy in Neil Simon's 'Biloxi

WILDCATS with Goldie Hawn. His next movie, COOL BLUE, was releases

uncredited. Meanwhile, he continued to be active in theatre in

gave him his first widely-seen movie role. The follo wing year,
WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP, with Wesley Snipes established him as a
box-office draw. He followed immediatly with two hits, INDECENT
PROPOSAL and Natural Born Killers (1994). Harrelson lives with his
former assistant, Laura Louie, and their daughter, Deni M ontana.
