BOOT CAMP FOR AFFLECK
Boot camp with the Army Rangers wasn't the Hollywood experience Ben
Affleck envisioned. The star spent four days along with co-star,
Josh Hartnett with the Rangers to get a taste of military life for
his role in Walt Disney's upcoming "Pearl Harbor" movie. In the
$135 million film, Affleck and Hartnett play fighter pilots from
Tennessee who fall in love with the same nurse.
WIM WENDERS LEADS GERMAN FILM NOMINATIONS
Director Wim Wenders is favored to win at this year's prestigious
German Film Awards - the country's equivalent to the Oscars - with
three nominations in the seven-category event. Wenders' feature
"The Million Dollar Hotel" is up for two awards (Best Picture and
Best Director) while his "Buena Vista Social Club" is up for a
third (Best Documentary). "Buena Vista Social Club" was nominated
in the documentary category at this year's Academy Awards, but did
not win.
CHILD STAR RAKING IN THE DOUGH
10-year old "Sixth Sense" star, Haley Joel Osmont will be picking
up a cool $2m to star in Speilberg's A.I., based on Stanley
Kubrick's screenplay, and then another $1m to play opposite Helen
Hunt, Jon Bon Jovi and Kevin Spacey, in, "Pay It Forward", the tale
of a gifted little person who throws magical tantrums hoping to
make the world a better place. Last week we also mentioned that
Osmont was reportedly signed on to play Harry Potter for Chris
Columbus.
CAGE, ARQUETTE TO REMAIN MARRIED
This following an announcement last month that they were divorcing.
Nicholas Cage seems to have had a change of heart and has withdrawn
divorce paper proceedings to give his marriage to Patricia Arquette
another try.
FINANCIAL ADVISOR CHARGED WITH STEALING MILLIONS
Dana Giacchetto, director of finances to such stars as Leonardo
DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Courteney Cox Arquette was
charged on Monday with three criminal counts for allegedly stealing
at least $6 million of his clients' funds. He was found to be
shuffling funds from clients' accounts. Giacchetto faces a maximum
of 20 years in prison, as well as millions of dollars in fines, if
convicted.
"TROUBLE WITH ANGELS" REMAKE
Sony Pictures Family Entertainment and producer Denise Di Novi are
planning to remake the 1966 Ida Lupino pic "The Trouble With
Angels" at Sony. Jenny Tripp is penning the remake. The original
"Trouble" pic was based on the Jane Trahey book "Life With Mother
Superior," adapted by Blanche Hanalis. It centers on a hip nun who
outfoxes and matures two rebel-lious students at a Catholic girls'
school. The original pic starred Rosalind Russell and Hayley Mills.
No word on who will reprise Russell's role.
STUDIO WINS LEGAL BATTLE OVER BOND-JAMES BOND
MGM has won a long-running legal battle with screenwriter Kevin
McClory over rights to one of the most famous and profitable movie
characters of all time - James Bond. Judge Edward Rafeedie
dismissed the last remaining elements of McClory's claim that he
was the creator of the cinematic James Bond character. McClory,
screenwriter on MGM's 1965 James Bond film "Thunderball," claimed
that he owned rights to the cinematic character created by novelist
Ian Fleming, and that MGM and Danjaq - the company that has
produced James Bond films - "infringed (his) work by continuing to
release James Bond films featuring McClory's character." In related
news Roger Moore, a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 1991, received
a Hans Christian Andersen prize Sunday in honor of the famed fairy
tale writer's 195th birthday. Moore received an undisclosed amount
of money for the U.N. Children's Fund that goes with the Andersen
Honorary Award, given by local entrepreneurs.
"MAN ON THE MOON" HIT'S SHELVES IN MAY
Jim Carrey's "Man on the Moon" will be landing in video stores May
30, just after the Memorial Day weekend. Although the comedy earned
a sluggish $34.6 million at the domestic box office, the Milos
Forman-helmed picture may have a more profitable life on video. The
DVD version has additional scenes, a behind-the-scenes documentary,
music videos and DVD-ROM offerings.
"KISS KISS" IN PRODUCTION
"Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang)," starring Stellan Skarsgard, Chris Penn,
and Paul Bettany started production in London last week. Written
and directed by Stewart Sugg, the film concerns a washed-up hit man
forced to come out of retirement.
"THE PRISONER"
Barry Mendel ("The Sixth Sense") has committed to produce "The
Prisoner," with Oscar-winner Chris McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects")
set to pen the screenplay. Simon West is still attached to direct
the pic, based on the 1960s cult Brit TV series "The Prisoner"
created by Patrick McGoohan.
HALLE BERRY SURRENDERS
Actress Halle Berry, charged with leaving the scene of an accident
that injured another driver, surrendered Saturday to sheriff's
deputies. Berry went to the Lennox station of the Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Department, where she was booked on a misdemeanor
warrant and released.
"TAXI" BIG HIT IN FRANCE
"Taxi 2," the sequel to the Luc Besson-produced hit of two years
ago, smashed the French opening box office record last Wednesday
with 759,000 admissions, equivalent to a gross of about $3.9
million. The previous record opening day was "Star Wars: Episode
I - The Phantom Menace," which drew 450,500 on its opening day in
October.
****Word on the streets*****

co-founder Paul Watson in Ocean Warrior for director John Badham.

Helena Bonham Carter and Guy Pierce will star in a romance about a
man
who's haunted by his dead lover in "Till Human Voices Wake Us".

ETHICAL LINE BLURED
On an upcoming CBS entertainment special with Leeza Gibbons,
creators of the Web portal iWon.com will give away $10 million to a
lucky person who has used the service over the past few months.
What most viewers won't be aware of is CBS's prize - a half-hour of
primetime exposure for an Internet company in which it owns a
majority stake. The "iWon.com Annual $10 Million Giveaway" special
is the latest example of how the murky waters of convergence affect
television networks, which are just one part of huge media
companies in the new wired world.
"FAIL SAFE" TO AIR SUNDAY
Watch TV, not war. Or rather, watch war on TV in hopes of
preventing it in real life. That's the message of disarmament
advocates planning to capitalize on CBS's remake of the 1964
nuclear weapons thriller "Fail-Safe." Groups including Project
Abolition, Disarmament Clearinghouse, Global Security Institute and
Peace Action are organizing hundreds of watch parties for the live
airing on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. In the movie, starring George
Clooney and Noah Wyle, a computer glitch triggers an accidental
attack by U.S. nuclear bombers on Russia, resulting in the
destruction of Moscow and the subsequent annihilation of New York
City.
SPELLING DONATES LUCILLE BALL'S SERIES
Producer Aaron Spelling is donating every episode of Lucille Ball's
last weekly TV series to the Lucy-Desi Museum in the late
comedian's hometown. Spelling was executive producer of "Life With
Lucy," which aired in 1986, and his company, Spelling
Entertainment, owns the rights to the show. The shows will be
screened during this year's 10th annual Lucy-Desi Days in May. Five
of the episodes were never broadcast on television.
OPRAH LAUNCHES MAGAZINE
Oprah's new magazine entitled "O" is Due out on newsstands April
19, "O" is intended to bring Winfrey's message of
self-determination and empowerment for women into a magazine
format. The initial print run was planned for 850,000 but was

BATMOBILE CREATOR GETS CALL FROM NASA
NASA called upon George Barris, designer of the original TV
Batmobile, to help on a real-life Mars go-cart. Seems someone at
NASA came across a model vehicle that was based on a working design
by Barris of a lunar rover vehicle. NASA was interested in the
wheel and suspension design and requested detailed background
information.

4. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
Gwyneth Paltrow
================================================
Birth Name: Gwyneth Kate Paltrow
Born: September 28, 1973 - Los Angeles, California, USA
Hieght: 5' 10"
To most moviegoers, Gwyneth Paltrow was "that English actress that
used to be engaged to Brad Pitt." On March 21, 1999, that image was
altered completely when the little known actress was awarded the
Academy Award for her outstanding performance in Shakespeare in
Love (1998). Gwyneth Paltrow, who in fact is not English, was born
in 1973 in Los Angeles, the daughter of noted film director Bruce
Paltrow and Tony award-winning actress Blythe Danner. When Gwyneth
was 11, the family moved to Massachusetts where her father began
working in summer stock productions in the Berkshires. It was here
that she received her early acting training under the tutelage of
her parents. In 1991, she quit the University of California and
began to actively pursue a career in acting. She made her film
debut with a small part in Shout (1991) and for the next 5 years
had featured roles in a mixed bag of film fare that included Flesh
and Bone (1993); Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994); Se7en
(1995); Jefferson in Paris (1995); Moonlight and Valentino (1995);
and Pallbearer, The (1996). It was her performance in the title
role of Emma Woodhouse in Emma (1996) that led to her being offered
the role of Viola in Shakespeare in Love (1998). She broke her much
publicized engagement to actor Brad Pitt in 1997 citing as the
reason the fact that neither she nor Pitt felt that they could
pursue their respective careers and at the same time maintain a
happy marriage. They remain good friends. A tall, wafer thin,
delicate beauty, Gwyneth Paltrow is a consummate professional and a
highly skilled actress who appears to possess everything necessary
to achieve super stardom.

Sent in by Tower Tragedy
I have both a site and a list, and both
center around the 1966 Texas Tower Massacre and
its legacy. There is a movie connection, as one
of the elements of the page is to analyze how the
Charles Whitman shootings have been referenced on
the screen. As you know, it has inspired everyone
from Peter Bogdonavich and Oliver Stone to Jon
Singleton and Kurt Russell. The site can be found
at: http://members.xoom.com/towertragedy/
The list, which is a low traffic forwarding list
of both old and new articles related to Tower
issues, can be found on Onelist at:
