1.QUOTE OF THE WEEK
======================
Annie Beiler: Heaping blame on yourself is the easy way to deal
with a problem. It weighs you down, stops you in your path, is an
excuse to do nothing... It will take more strength to accept your
burden and walk on with it. Soon you find yourself in a different
place -- stronger, wiser. And there your burden falls.
Patty Duke - Harvest of Fire (1996)

=======================================================
NICHOLAS CAGE OUT OF 'GHOST RIDER' ROLE
While talking to Cinescape, Nicholas Cage confirmed that "Ghost
Rider" was up in the air due to a scheduling conflict that arose
when director Stephen Norrington ("Blade") opted to take on the
Jennifer Lopez thriller "Tick-Tock." "I don't know what's going
to happen with ("Ghost Rider") right now, because the director
went and took another job," Cage revealed. "We were going to go,
and I don't know what happened. So now I'm not doing it." Cage
was going to be the next "Superman" until that project fell apart
"The comic book idea for me was very dear to my heart because I
grew up learning how to read through comic books," Cage
explained, "and I've always been interested in comic book art and
illustration. Figuring out a way to do that in a movie would be
exciting, but that's a very hard thing to pull off," he added.
""Ghost Rider" to me, would be the best way to do it - would be
the most cinematic choice - because that character is more like a
horror film. "Superman" was interesting to me because that's the
big daddy of comic books, it spawned the whole thing."

NO SEQUEL FOR 'PLANET OF THE APES'?
"Planet of the Apes" director Tim Burton spoke recently with
Britain's Independent newspaper. When asked if there would be a
sequel to the blockbuster movie Burton said, "The idea of doing a
sequel -- I'd rather jump out of the window, I swear to God."
Burton continued by taking a swipe at studio bosses. "They give
you a script, and you do a budget based on that, and say 'This
movie would cost $300 million to make', and then they treat you
like a crazy, overspending, crazy-person. It's like, 'Well, you
gave me the script'," Burton said.
"I'm fascinated by the studio technique that sort of leaves you
bloodied, beaten and left for dead right before you're supposed
to go out and make a great movie for them."
LINNEY EYEING 'DAVID GALE'
Laura Linney ("You Can Count on Me") is in negotiations to star
opposite Kevin Spacey in "The Life of David Gale." According to
Variety, The picture is about a professor opposed to the death
penalty who winds up on death row after he's convicted of
murdering another death-penalty activist. Linney will play one of
two anti-death penalty activist's. The producers have been
courting Nicole Kidman for the other role, but she has not
committed to the part, the trade reported.
'PRIDE AND GLORY' OF INTERMEDIA
Intermedia Films is in final negotiations to acquire "Pride and
Glory," a drama that examines the professional and personal lives
of the people who make up the New York Police Department.
Writer-director Gavin O'Connor ("Tumbleweeds") is attached to
helm.
NO EXTRA SCENES ON 'SPY KIDS' VIDEO
The Sept. 18 video release of "Spy Kids" will not include the
extra scenes that were added for a special re-release in movie
theaters earlier this month. Apparently, writer/director Robert
Rodriguez so busy finishing shooting "Desperado 2: Once Upon a
Time in Mexico" (aka "Mariachi 3") and planning to start shooting
"Spy Kids 2" the first week of October, there are no plans at
this time for a special DVD edition of the family
action-adventure film.
CHRISTINA RICCI TO DIRECT INDIE FEATURE
Christina Ricci will make her directorial debut on the indie
feature "Speed Queen," a dark comedy in which she will also star,
according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is about a
fast-food clerk who goes on a lethal road trip with a man and
woman and then tells her story to a best-selling author while on
death row. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com
FRENCH STEWART TAKES INSPECTOR GADGET ROLE
French Stewart, who played Harry Solomon on "3rd Rock From the
Sun," has signed to play the title character in Walt Disney Co.'s
direct-to-video sequel "Inspector Gadget 2," taking over the
title role played by Matthew Broderick in the original. In
addition, Stewart has inked a one-year development deal with NBC
to develop and star in a comedy project based on his idea, which
is targeted for fall 2002.
NEW LINE CINEMA 'DA UNKNOWN SOLDIER'
New Line Cinema has struck a deal for the action buddy comedy
spec "Da Unknown Soldier" from "Scary Movie" scribe Phil Beauman.
According to Variety, "Soldier" (aka "AWOL") is the story of two
cousins -- one in the Army, the other still enmeshed in the
'hood. The hooligan offers to change places with his enlisted
cousin for a couple of hours so he can leave the base to visit
his family. However, when he returns, he discovers that war has
been declared in his absence and his relative is off to battle.
'STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE' DVD
Paramount Home Entertainment will release "Star Trek: the Motion
Picture -- the Director's Edition" on Nov. 6, according to
Variety. In addition to the new 136-minute cut of the movie, the
two-disc set will feature two hours of bonus programming,
including group commentary by Wise, special photographic effects
supervisor John Dykstra, special photographics director Douglas
Trumbull, music composer Jerry Goldsmith and actor Stephen
Collins. Also included will be three new retrospective
documentaries with cast and crew interviews, five additional
scenes (from the 1979 theatrical version) plus trims and
outtakes, as well as 11 deleted scenes (from the 1983 TV
version). The movie will also be presented for the first time in
widescreen form on VHS, which will also include a bonus
featurette with new interviews of the cast and crew.

PARAMOUNT TAKES ON 'VENUS'
Paramount has acquired rights to a comedy pitch called "Venus
Down," Variety reported on Monday. The project will be written by
Peter Segal and Fred Wolf, both of which were involved with the
Chris Farley/David Spade comedy "Tommy Boy." The film centers on
an arrogant goddess of love who takes a challenge laid down by
her father, who wagers that she cannot win the love of a mortal
without her powers in 30 days.

PUBLISHER SUES WINFREY MAGAZINE
A German publisher of erotica said on Monday he was suing for
breach of copyright against "O, The Oprah Magazine" devoted to
Ophrah Winfrey. Ronald Brockmeyer, publisher of O Magazine said
that O, The Oprah Magazine, had engaged in unfair competition and
trademark infringement. "I know that lawsuits are a burden on
your life but I had no choice," Brockmeyer said. "O is my
trademark. I built it up and protected it for years. The
defendants knew about my rights but went ahead anyway and they
refused to stop when I asked them to." The suit was lodged
against the American magazine's publishers, the Hearst
Corporation and Harpo Print LLC, and seeks an injunction against
the further use of the term "O Magazine" and the "O" letter
design.

themselves in black-itude." He subsequently denied the accuracy
of the article's quotes.

Reader "Spyder" writes in to announce the opening of his new
site.."The Silver Sheet."
So, you wanna see that new movie that comes out this weekend,
right? But you've got to work, you're grounded, or just don't
know if you wanna spend your "hard-earned" (note the sarcastic
quoatations) money on it? Well, have no fear...we've got the
answer that so-called dilemma. Movie recaps. They're the new
fad of the...whatever year you're stuck in. Read the recap,
decide yourself. It's better than a movie review, because it
tells you just how stupid and predictable that new movie is.
Now you won't have to bluff your way through conversation on
the latest movies. Unless we don't recap the movie, which in
that case -- you're on your own. <A href="
