Hi Movie Fans!
I thought I was going to have another problem with the lightening
around here keeping today's issue from going out. Luckily we just
caught the edge of the storm (I guess standing outside trying to
blow the storm away from me worked). I feel for those living on
the west side of Tucson though. The clouds looked pretty violent
over there. I only had to shut the computer down for an hour
today. Some days I have to shut down more than once and for a
larger period of time. I hate that!

Prince Chulalongkorn: It is always surprising how small a part of
life is taken up by meaningful moments. Most often they're over
before they start even though they cast a light on the future and

3. IN THE NEWS - Movies & Entertainment
=======================================================
PACINO, FARRELL HEADED FOR 'THE FARM'
Al Pacino and Colin Farrell have committed to star in "The Farm,"
a suspense thriller set to start shooting this November. The film
revolves around a young CIA operative (Farrell) and his
complicated relationship with a mentor (Pacino) who double
crosses him.
JACKIE CHAN IN 'SPY JAM'?
While talking to Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com), Jackie
Chan revealed that he might be jumping on board Warner Bros.
developing "Spy Jam," a sequel to "Space Jam" starring Michael
Jordan. "My managers are negotiating. I like cartoons. It would
be very, very fun," Chan said. In related news, EW reports that a
studio insider says Warner Bros. is also eyeing "Race Jam," a
NASCAR themed follow up.
WALKEN JOINS 'STUART LITTLE 2'
Christopher Walken has signed on to join Michael J. Fox, Nathan
Lane and Melanie Griffith in Columbia's "Stuart Little 2"
project. Details of what character he will lend his voice to is
unspecified.
RAMIS BOWS OUT OF 'RULE'
Variety reports that Harold Ramis ("Analyze This") has dropped
out of directing the action comedy "Rule Number Three." Although
Ramis' camp cites creative differences with Fox 2000 as the
reason he quit the project, the studio said conflicting schedules
caused the breakup. According to the trade, "Rule" centers on an
arrogant firearms dealer who bullies someone he assumes is just a
regular guy. Turns out, however, that he's an assassin who
decides to teach the dealer a lesson in humility.

'MATRIX' SEQUEL EYEING 2003 RELEASE
According to Variety, Warner Bros. will release "Matrix Reloaded"
in a simultaneous domestic and foreign wide release slated for
May 2003. However, Warner Bros. has not confirmed the tentative
2003 plans. Warner Bros. distribution president Dan Fellman said,
that shooting has yet to start although early effects work is
going well. "We are right on schedule with the film," he said.
PARAMOUNT, NICKELODEON MOVIES GET 'ECTO-KID'
In a motion picture and TV rights deal, Nickelodeon Movies and
Paramount Pictures have optioned the feature and TV rights to
"Ecto-Kid," a short story based on the comic book property owned
by writer and director Clive Barker. The comic book centers on
Dex Mungo, the love child of a psychic woman and the ghost of a
murdered man. Dex has the ability to see the living with one eye
and the spectral realm of the dead, who "exist" among us, with
his other eye.
'MY BABY'S MAMA' GOING TO MIRAMAX
Miramax Films is buying "My Baby's Mama," a comedy penned by
Eddie Griffin and Damon "Coke" Daniels. Griffin will star in the
picture along with John Leguizamo and LL Cool J. The film is
described as "Three Men and a Baby" meets "Friday."
'SIMPSONS' MOVIE TALK
While talking to Cinescape, Al Jean, executive producer of the
"The Simpsons' revealed some thoughts on a big screen version of
the popular cartoon. "There's more information than there had
been [about a movie]. When the actors re-signed earlier this year
the contracts called for them to do three movies. The price is
fixed as to what they'll get paid, but we don't have a script. We
obviously want it to be a really good script, so it involves us
getting enough time to develop something that we really want to
do. It's so much in the planning stages [at this point]. I think
it's going to happen but I could not tell you when."

MIRAMAX JUMPS ON 'I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT'
Miramax Films has bought the rights to a British novel. "I Don't
Know How She Does It" is based on author Allison Pearson's weekly
columns in the Daily Telegraph. The novel, which won't be
published until next year tells the fictional story of a
successful investment banker, Kate Reddy, who struggles to
balance her job with the perils of motherhood.
JAY ROACH 'UP IN THE AIR'
Director Jay Roach ("Austin Powers," "Meet the Parents") is set
to develop the latest Walter Kirn novel, "Up In The Air," into a
film. According to the Popcorn website
(http://www.popcorn.co.uk), the project centers on a motivational
coach who spends more time traveling on airplanes than he does
with his feet on the ground. The coach becomes so obsessed with
reaching his millionth frequent flyer mile that he fails to
notice the rest of his life falling down around his ears.
"He's not trying to reach that mark because he wants to travel
all over the place, but rather to break the spell that this
mileage quest has over him," says Roach. "He describes his
existence as living in 'air world', where travelers are herded
like sheep around airports, rental cars and hotel chains. It's a
compelling existential anti-adventure that is funny".
DISNEY ACQUIRES 'DADDY DANGER'
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Co. has acquired
the rights to the forthcoming DC comic book "Big Daddy Danger."
The comic, created and written by Adam Pollina, centers on a
father who's a wrestler by day and secret agent by night. The
trade describes the plot as "Spy Kids" meets "True Lies."
http://www.holywoodreporter.com
DOBKIN SET TO HELM 'SHANGHAI' SEQUEL
Director David Dobkin ("Clay Pigeons") has signed to helm
"Shanghai Knights," the sequel to Disney's "Shanghai Noon,"
starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. "Knights" will reteam the
mismatched buddies in turn-of-the century London, where they
uncover a worldwide conspiracy to overthrow the Chinese and
British empires.
SURVEY SAYS TARANTINO'S 'PULP FICTION' OVERRATED
According to an informal survey by the Library of America, Movie
scribes have named "Citizen Kane" the best screenplay of all
time, "Pulp Fiction" as the most overrated and the Bill Murray
comedy "Groundhog Day" as the most underrated. "Casablanca"
followed "Citizen Kane" on the best-of list with "The Godfather"
(1972), "Chinatown" (1974), "All About Eve" (1950), "Some Like It
Hot" (1959), "Sunset Boulevard" (1950), "Annie Hall" (1977), "The
Graduate" (1967) and The Godfather, Part II (1974) rounding out
the top ten. Joining "Pulp Fiction" as most-overrated was "Gone
With the Wind," "Traffic," "American Beauty," "E.T. The
Extra-Terrestrial," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "It's a
Wonderful Life." On the flip side, Joining "Groundhog Day" as
most-underrated was "Quiz Show," "Aliens," "The Wizard of Oz" and
"The Best Years of Our Lives."
WYCLEF JEAN GETS 'SHOTTAS'
Former Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean has signed to star in "Shottas,"
a gangster drama set in Miami. According to Variety, the story
revolves around two Jamaican thugs who reunite and decide to take
on the city of Miami. Jean will also provide the picture's
soundtrack.
NEW TV, FILM CONTRACT RATIFIED
Two trade unions representing film and television actors said
on Monday their members have voted to ratify a new three-year
contract reached last month with the major movie studios and TV
networks. With 38,163 ballots cast in a referendum conducted by
mail, nearly 97 percent (36,876) voted in favor of the new
labor pact, and 3.2 percent (1,232) voted against, the unions
said. The remaining 55 ballots returned were ruled invalid.
