1.QUOTE OF THE WEEK
======================
Principal: Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most
insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your
rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything
that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this
room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no
points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
James Downey - "Billy Madison" (1995)

SHAQ, 'T3' BAD GUY?
According to a report at Dark Horizons, While appearing on
"Access Hollywood, Shaquille O'Neal revealed that he may join the
long in the works "Terminator 3" project, though nothing is solid
as yet. Shaq revealed, "As a matter of fact, I have the script to
Terminator 3 at home right now." {Only time will tell}

'TRON' SEQUEL UPDATE
Writer-director Steven Lisberger recently sat down with The
Hollywood Reporter and spoke of what lies ahead for the "Tron"
sequel. The Walt Disney Co. has quietly been working on reviving
their 1982 "Tron," courtesy of a new video game, DVD and a
developing sequel. Lisberger, who helmed and co-wrote the
original film had this to say, "I have several characters that
will be completely digital creations, but I'm not trying to
replace actors. I'd like the sequel to retain the artistic look
of the original, while employing more cutting-edge technology and
introducing a new cast of characters. We could do a movie that
looks like the original today for $200,000." He adds, "When we
created (the character) Tron, there were no PCs. We were looking
at a possible future. I'd like to bring Tron into today's world
and look at how cyberspace will be 20 years from now because it's
still in its infancy. It's exciting that this is all happening.
Everyone involved wants to make a "Tron" sequel, and we have lots
of directions we could go. It's just a matter of waiting for a
green light." In regards to the coming DVD, which will be a
"Tron" 20th anniversary edition Lisberger says, "I recorded over
four hours of commentary for the new TRON DVD, which will ship
Jan. 15, 20 years after it debuted theatrically. The DVD will
include the 30-second deleted love scene and an extensive
documentary tracing the creation of this film, as well as other
extras."
TAMAHORI, FRONT-RUNNER FOR 'BOND 20'
Variety reports that New Zealand-born director, Lee Tamahori
("Along Came a Spider") is a front-runner to direct the 20th
installment of the James Bond franchise, which will begin
shooting in early 2002. Negotiations are expected to begin within
the next few weeks.
WINONA RYDER 'SECRETLY PLANTING'
Winona Ryder is tapped to star in "Lily and the Secret Planting."
According to Variety, the story follows a claustrophobic young
woman (Ryder) who lives with her vertiginous mother (Linda
Bassett) and falls in love with a nursery owner's assistant (Gael
Garcia Bernal) when she secretly plants a garden in a central
square.
LUCAS IN BATTLE OVER LIGHT SABER NAME
E! Online reports that George Lucas has filed a law suit in U.S.
District Court in San Francisco, claiming that Minrad Inc. (a
medical-instruments maker) infringed on Lucasfilm's exclusive
copyright on the Light Saber name when it asked permission from
the government to call its new group of energy-beam-related
surgical devices Light Sabers because they're guided by lasers.
In the suit, Lucasfilm claims Minrad's use of the Light Saber
name would not only dilute the value of the trademark and
potentially cost the filmmaker millions of dollars but could dupe
consumers into thinking Lucas endorsed the gadgets.
REESE WITHERSPOON EYEING 'ALABAMA'
Reese Witherspoon ("Legally Blonde") is in negotiations to star
in the romantic comedy "Sweet Home Alabama." According to
sources, Disney first needs to agree to meet her salary demand of
between 4-5 million. Variety reports that Witherspoon would play
a down-home woman who leaves behind her life and husband in
Alabama and heads for the bright lights of New York. She
establishes herself in the social set there but eventually
realizes it isn't easy to leave the past behind.
KATE HUDSON GETS 'PEARL EARRINGS'
Kate Hudson is in negotiations to star in "The Girl With the
Pearl Earrings," based on Tracy Chevalier's bestselling novel of
the same name, Variety reports. Set during the 17th century, the
book takes its title from Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's
portrait of an anonymous woman wearing a pearl earring. The story
is told from the perspective of a 16-year-old named Griet who is
employed by Vermeer in his grand Delft household as an housemaid
to care for his multiple children, his jealous and eternally
pregnant wife and his taciturn mother-in-law. Domestic tensions
ensue when Griet becomes increasingly intimate with her master,
reported the trade.
DUVALL TO STAR IN 'GETTYSBURG' PREQUEL
Robert Duvall has agreed to play Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee
in a prequel to the Civil War drama "Gettysburg." Duvall will
join Jeff Daniels, C. Thomas Howell and Tom Berenger in "Gods and
Generals," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Martin Sheen
starred as Lee in "Gettysburg," which debuted on TV. "Gods and
Generals" is planned for theatrical release.
TIM BURTON AFRAID OF CHIMPS
While talking to Britain's Daily Telegraph, Tim Burton, director
of "Planet of the Apes" revealed that he was frightened by the
dark side of the primates used in the movie. "If you've ever been
around a real chimp, it's very disturbing. They scare me. They
may smile at you and look cute but beneath the surface is a
darker behavior, so we tried to show that aspect of their
characters." Meanwhile, actor Tim Roth, who played 'Thade' in the
movie admitted he too wasn't keen with the real apes on the set.
"I wouldn't go near them. I'm scared of them. They'd rip you to
shreds as soon as look at you," Roth said.
MADONNA AND HUSBAND 'SWEPT AWAY'
Daily Variety reports that Madonna will star for her director
husband, Guy Ritchie, in an update of the romantic saga "Swept
Away." The material girl will play the lead role in the film,
which follows as a spoiled rich woman who goes on a yachting
holiday with friends in the Mediterranean and gets entangled in
an unlikely romance with a communist sailor. "Swept Away" is
based on Lina Wertmuller's 1975 Italian-language movie.
McTIERNAN TO DIRECT MILITARY THRILLER
John McTiernan is in negotiations to direct "Basic," a military
thriller, which centers around a DEA agent who investigates the
disappearance of a legendary Army ranger drill instructor and
several cadets.

====================================
LUKE PERRY RETURNING TO TV
Luke Perry will executive produce and star in "Jeremiah," a
Showtime sci-fi series marking his return to series TV since
"Beverly Hills, 90210." The show is described by Variety as being
set in a future post-apocalyptic world, where, almost a decade
before, a virus wiped out the world's adult population sparing
only those who hadn't reached puberty. Showtime has ordered up 20
episodes of the show, which is expected to debut next year.
'WEST WING' CAST SETTLES CASH DISPUTE
NBC has agreed to more than double the paychecks of Allison
Janney, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford and John Spencer to keep
them aboard "The West Wing." In exchange for the increase the
foursome agreed to stay with the show for an extra year,
committing them to "The West Wing" through its seventh season.
The White House drama begins its third season this fall. The
quartet will now make just over $70,000 per episode.
LA SALLE, SOON TO EXIT 'ER' DOORS?
While talking to TV Guide Online, ER producer John Wells seemed
to suggest that Eriq La Salle (Dr. Peter Benton) could follow
fellow original cast member Anthony Edwards out the door after
the 2001-02 season, when their contracts expire. "He wants to
continue directing, and acting in a series and directing at the
same time is tough," Wells tells the magazine. "Those two
ambitions don't go together, and that's been the difficulty in
the negotiations."
CAROLINE RHEA TO TAKE OVER 'ROSIE' SHOW
Comic Caroline Rhea ("Sabrina, the Teenage Witch") said on Friday
that she will take over Rosie O'Donnell's talk show when she
retires from the program next year. Rhea will continue appearing
on the program as a guest host for several months before taking
control of the show in mid-2002.
LUCY LAWLESS JOINS 'X-FILES'
Variety reports that Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) has
signed a multi-episode deal to appear on "X-Files." The specifics
of her character were not revealed, but "X-Files" executive
producer Frank Spotnitz had this to say, We're thrilled to have
an opportunity to work with Lucy, whose work we've admired for a
long time. We think we've found an interesting and unexpected way
to have her join the family." "The X-Files ramps up it's ninth
season on November 4th.
