Hi Movie Fans!
I was right in assuming that it would be ok with most of you to
exclude the video rental and sales section of the newsletter from
future issues of Movie Fever (based on the fact that I didn't
receive many emails to the contrary). However, I did recieve some
from readers who subscribed mainly for this particular feature.
This is understandable, as those of you who wrote in concerning
this issue used the video rental/sales section as a "heads up" in
deciding what videos might be worth renting.
With that said..I think the only right thing to do is put the
video rental/sales section back. But, there's one problem. The
source I was using to get this information has been doing a poor
a job of providing updated info, which is one of the main reasons
I decided to drop this section to begin with and should have
mentioned. I do have access to updated info on top rentals, but
not sales. Until I do, we will only be publishing the top 10
RENTALS for the previous week. Hopefully this clears things up
and will be satisfactory to those of you who found the video
rental/sales section useful.

1.QUOTE OF THE WEEK
======================
Ann Field: I have a passion for what I do. You're sleepwalking
through life if you don't.
Rob Baskin: Loving what you do is a luxury most of us can't
afford.
Ann Field: Just the opposite. Most people can't afford NOT to do
what they love. Life's too short.

3. IN THE NEWS - Movies & Entertainment
=======================================================
MOORE DEBUNKS 'HANNIBAL' RUMORS
While talking to Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cindy Pearlman,
Julianne Moore spoke of rumors regarding extra footage that was
shot and then cut from 'Hannibal." "There are rumors that we shot
a graphic love scene between Clarice and Hannibal that didn't
make the movie, but will make the DVD. Let me repeat. We never
shot that sex scene," Moore stated. Regarding the upcoming
prequel--based on Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon," Moore notes that
the story won't be featuring the character of Clarice Starling,
adding, "I'm sort of bummed because I would do another "Hannibal"
movie in a second!" In related news, DarkHorizons.com reports
that Arxel Tribe and Universal Studios are developing an action
adventure game based on Hannibal Lecter.
DREAMWORK'S 'TORTOISE' ON HOLD
E! Online Reports that Aardman Animations--the famed British
cartoon studio that hatched last year's "Chicken Run" for
DreamWorks and is also responsible for Nick Park's beloved,
Oscar-winning "Wallace and Grommit" shorts--has announced it's
pink-slipping 90 crew members and postponing production on
DreamWorks' next animated adventure "Tortoise vs. Hare" to smooth
out problems with the script. Producers are pointing at a
shortened development schedule as the reason for the
script-tweaking.
DNA FILMS GETS 'LEONARDO'
DNA Films has picked up "Leonardo Secret Agent," an original
screenplay by Jonny Kurzman, to shoot next year, Variety reported
on Monday. The film is an action-adventure comedy set in
15th-century Italy, with the premise that Leonardo da Vinci --
artist, scientist and inventor -- was also a secret agent.
ACTORS, STUDIOS REACH CONTRACT DEAL
The two unions representing 135,000 actors reached a tentative
agreement late on Tuesday with major film and TV studios on a new
three-year contract, putting to rest months of Hollywood labor
tension. {Woohoo..were all glad to hear this I'm sure!}
CG 'AXIS' TO DEBUT IN AUGUST
According to The Hollywood Reporter (via Cinescape), A short demo
of the 85-minute CGI feature "Axis" will be premiered at this
year's 28th International Conference on Computer Graphics and
Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH), which takes place in Los
Angeles on August 12-17. The film, which is scheduled to hit
American theaters in 2002 stars the voices of Kirsten Dunst,
Richard Harris, Anjelica Huston, Keith David, Greg Proops and
Michael McShane and will tell the story of a spirited teenager
named Kaena (Dunst) who leaves the safety of her massive tree
city, called Axis, to discover why her hometown's life giving sap
is waning. Defying the rules, she journeys down to the tree's
roots where she encounters an alien race called Selenites, whose
questionable methods are an attempt to save the tree.
SEAN CONNERY IN 'STAR TREK X'?
Comingsoon.net and DarkHorizons.com report that Sean Connery is
in talks to play the film's lead villain 'Shinzon', the leader of
the Reman - a Romulan off-shoot slave race that's been living for
centuries on the dark side of a planet that doesn't rotate.
WARNER BROS. SEEKING BIG PAY DAY FOR TV 'POTTER'
Warner Bros. is said to be seeking a bucket load of cash for the
exclusive TV rights to the coming "Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone." According to the New York Post and TIME
magazine (via Cinescape), the studio is looking to pull in $70M
for the picture. To give you some idea how much that is,
"Titanic," which pulled in more money than any other at the box
office only recieved $30M.
'SCARY MOVIE 3' WILL HAPPEN DESPITE BAD REVIEWS
According to Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cindy Pearlman, plans
are underway for a third installment of "Scary Movie." "We've
already been told to start immediately working on number three,
says Shawn Wayans. Meanwhile, actor James Woods talked about the
scene where he was covered in green pea soup. "I had to sit there
while hundreds of live flies were glued to my face. On this
movie, I got paid bout $25,000 an hour. I was glad to do whatever
the brothers wanted for that kind of payday."
'TOMB RAIDER' DVD DIFFERENT THAN THEATER VERSION
While talking to Empire Online, Simon West, director of Lara
Croft: Tomb Raider said that the DVD version of the film could
differ dramatically from the theatrical release. "I've done the
DVD version already, and there's extra stuff in that, but not a
director's cut. Who knows? Often, like a year or two later, they
ask you to do a director's cut. It wouldn't be a three-hour
thing, but it might be totally different in some areas. People
are horrified that [the DVD version] is not quite the same as it
was in the theater, but I actually quite like the idea of having
two or three different versions of the film," West said.
APG AND STUDIOCANAL PICK UP 'THE AMERICAN'
Variety reports that Artists Production Group, aligned with
Vivendi's StudioCanal, has purchased the spec script "The
American." The plot follows a recent college grad who uncovers a
conspiracy involving the highest levels of the CIA after he
begins working at a think tank that investigates illegal funding
for terrorist groups.
UNIVERSAL PICTURES ACQUIRES 'MULLHOLLAND'
Universal Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution rights from
StudioCanal to David Lynch's twisted noir thriller "Mulholland
Drive," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Lynch also wrote and
produced "Mulholland," originally conceived as a television
series for ABC. The film stars Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin
Theroux, Ann Miller and Dan Hedaya and tells the intertwined
stories of several pairs of people based in Los Angeles.
WILLIAM SHATNER ON BOARD 'PIMP' TOON
William Shatner has joined Bernie Mac, Jennifer Tilly, and Carmen
Electra in voicing characters for Revolution Studio's upcoming
animated feature film project, "L'il Pimp." According to Variety,
the film will tell the story of a nine-year old kid and his pimp
pals, Fruitjuice and Nagchampa, and a gerbil named Weathers who
suffers from Tourette's Syndrome. "Pimp" is scheduled for a 2002
release and is geared towards fans of "South Park."

REDFORD LABELS BUSH 'IGNORANT' ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
While talking to the German magazine, "Stern," Robert Redford
called President Bush "ingnorant" on the environment and urged
other nations to keep pressure on the United States at a global
climate conference next week. "Bush doesn't have a clue," Redford
said, adding that Bush was unaware "we are all living in a global
village." Redford said he felt the president relied too much on
advisers who joined his administration from industry and military
backgrounds. They are blind and deaf to the changes over the last
40 years," he said. "It's a tragedy because we could really learn
a lot from other countries."
