Hi Movie Fans!

I've elected to discontinue running Top Video Sales/Rentals and
Soundtracks. Based on the survey we held awhile back, these were
the things you could most live without.

If I get enough email from our readers wanting this feature to
return, I will consider adding them back to the mix, but I think
the majority of you will not have a problem with this.

Happy 4th of July to our American readers!

Pete: I always wondered. What's the devil look like?

Everett: Well, of course there are all manner of lesser imps and
demons, Pete. But the great Satan hisself is red and scaly with a
bifurcated tail and he carries a hay fork.

HEWITT IN CHAN'S 'TUXEDO'
Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks for the female lead role in
DreamWorks' Jackie Chan starring comedy-action film, "The
Tuxedo." Should Hewitt sign on, she will take on the role of
a government agent who teams with Chan's bumbling spy guy lead.
The film is scheduled to ramp up production in September in
Toronto and tells of a bumbling spy that invents a tuxedo
that helps him fight.

McTIERNAN'S 'ROLLERBALL' DELAYED
John McTiernan's remake of "Rollerball" will roll into theaters
later than expected. The movie was supposed to hit theaters on
Aug. 17, but now is scheduled for release in the first quarter of
2002, Variety reported Monday. MGM's new president of theatrical
marketing and distribution, Robert Levin, said delaying
"Rollerball's" release will give him a chance to capitalize on
what he described as the film's "great potential."

'GRAND CHAMPION' WRAPS UP
Independent film "Grand Champion" saw it's last day of shooting
on Saturday. Julia Roberts' 10-year-old niece Emma Roberts has a
starring role in the film. Bruce Willis, Robert Earl Keen and
Charlie Robison also make appearances in the movie, which is
about children who make off with a champion steer named "Hokey"
before he's shipped to a butcher. Country music star George
Strait plays himself in the film, which also features a cameo by
Julia Roberts.

ACTORS, STUDIOS CLOSE TO DEAL
Negotiators for Hollywood actors and studios edged Sunday toward
labor peace, putting the final touches on a three-year film-TV
contract. A tentative deal is expected to be announced Monday.
Although sources cautioned that there remained a remote
possibility that actors could walk away from the table, the
indications were growing that both sides saw an acceptable deal
within reach.

PARAMOUNT CUTS 'RAIDER' SCENES FOR U.K. CENSOR
Citing the film's "glamorization of knives," Britain's censors
have forced Paramount Pictures to cut scenes in "Lara Croft: Tomb
Raider" in order to get a kid-friendly rating. According to
Variety, The studio made the necessary trims to the Angelina
Jolie vehicle to meet the guidelines for a 12 rating, which bars
all children under that age. The film was rated PG-13 in the
United States with an advisory that some of the action violence
and sensuality may be inappropriate for children under 13.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO 'CURIOUS GEORGE'?
In an article by Chicago Sun-Times columnist, Cindy Pearlman,
director Lawrence Guterman talked about what's going on with Ron
Howard's live-action "Curious George" flick the the two had
worked on together. "We were in development with the film for
over four years. It was going to be like 'Babe' with the effects
of a 'Men in Black.' The problem wasn't the movie. It was just
being developed into what turned out to be not the greatest
quarter at Universal. And [it's] a very expensive movie because
of all the effects." When asked if there were any chance of it
leaving development hell, Guterman sadi, "It's a classic kids
story. I hope it will get made."

WARNER BROS. GETS 'MATCHMAKER'
Variety reports that Warner Bros. Pictures is in final
negotiations to acquire "Matchmakers." The film tells the story
of Clair Clark, a hard-working, first-year high school teacher in
Eugene, Ore., whose freshman study hall students decided that she
needed a life and set out to find one for her. The students
quizzed her about her interests and then posted a personal ad on
AOL. The following morning, she had 15 responses. Clark was
startled by the news, but told her students to sort it out. They
did by selecting Kevin Wiles. Clark and Wiles wed May 12.

NELSON JOINS TUNNEY IN 'CHERISH'
Tim Blake Nelson ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?") has joined the
cast of the indie feature "Cherish," where he will star as the
male lead opposite Robin Tunney. According to the Hollywood
Reporter, the story revolves around a young woman, Zoe (Tunney),
who is falsely accused of a crime and is incarcerated in the
electronic bracelet program, never able to move more than 57 feet
from the watchful eye of an electronic modem. The only human
physical contact she has over two years is with a young man
(Nelson) who works for the county monitoring the bracelet and
modem. Their boundaries of trust and intimacy blur as he helps
Zoe find her way to freedom. The film also stars Jason Priestley,
Brad Hunt, Lindsey Crouse, Nora Dunn and singer Liz Phair.

'THE EXPERIMENT' OPTIONED BY BLUM ISRAEL
Blum Israel Prods. has optioned the second novel from New York
Times culture editor John Darnton called "The Experiment."
According to Variety, the book is a science thriller about a New
York journalist who meets a man who seems to be his identical
twin and learns that as a child he was part of an experiment in
cloning. That experiment went sour and a cabal of rogue
politicians, businessmen and scientists are bent on keeping it
quiet.

PIERCE BROSNAN WILL NOT BE REPLACED AS BOND
Reuters reports that producers of the James Bond films have
denied rumors that movie star Pierce Brosnan will be replaced.
Tabloids and several Web sites reported this week that Brosnan,
48, was to be replaced by little known Scottish actor Gerard
Butler (or possibly Russell Crowe, as stated in the last issue of
Movie Fever). "It just isn't true and I wish these rumors would
stop. We have been inundated with calls all week. Pierce Brosnan
will play James Bond in the forthcoming production and for the
foreseeable future," a spokeswoman for the Bond producers,
Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, told Reuters.

SEGA'S 'CRAZY TAXI' HEADING FOR THE BIG SCREEN
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Producer-director Richard
Donner will be in the driver's seat of "Crazy Taxi," a feature
version of Sega's best-selling video game. The 3-D racing games
introduce a cast of colorful cab drivers and reward players for
delivering customers from location A to location B as fast as
possible by any means necessary. Cabs careen through crowded
streets and sidewalks, rush through subway tunnels and jump onto
rooftops to make better time.

A conservative politician and a family lobby group have called on

those who pray on the disenchanted and disillusioned youth of
Australia to visit our country and promote a culture of drugs,
violence and foul language." Eminem is scheduled to perform
concerts in Melbourne on July 26 and Sydney on July 27.

VING RHAMES 'UNDERCOVER'
Actor Ving Rhames, currently in theaters with "Baby Boy," has
signed to star in three episodes on the upcoming NBC action drama
"UC: Undercover," Variety reported. Rhames will play
larger-than-life drug lord Quito Real on the show. One or two of
his episodes are expected to air during the November sweeps. In
addition to Rhames, Golden Globe nominee Steven Bauer ("Traffic")
has agreed to appear in six episodes, while model-thesp Angie
Everhart has locked in for a five-episode run. Oded Fehr ("The
Mummy Returns") also recently joined as a series regular along
with William Forsythe.

ONE MORE SEASON OF 'X-FILES' FOR ANDERSON
While talking to London's Sunday Times, Gillian Anderson said she
will be giving up the role after next season. After nine years in
her Emmy-winning role as the straight-laced FBI agent, Anderson,
32, says she plans to star in a production next summer in
London's West End. But more importantly, Anderson says she's
leaving Chris Carter's long-running sci-fi hit so she can spend
more time with her daughter, Piper. With The X-Files requiring
18-hour days, Anderson said she often felt guilty about trying to
find time with her daughter.
