'PEARL HARBOR' EDITED FOR JAPAN
Word has it that the version of Walt Disney's Pearl Harbor that
will be seen in Japan and Germany will have some slight
differences from the one hitting theaters in the US this past
weekend. According to a Disney source some dialogue has been
changed to avoid offending audiences in the two nations. for
instance, there's a line in the film that includes the comment "a
few less dirty Japs" this will be changed to "a few less Japs."
In addition, the films producer, Jerry Bruckheimer acknowledged
that Disney's overseas marketing campaign would play up the love
story and downplay the battle.
HOPPER GETS 'NIGHT JOB'
Dennis Hopper is attached to direct and star in "The Night Job,"
a drama about an ex-con drawn back to the underworld by a crooked
cop trying to nail a flamboyant mobster's global art smuggling
ring. According to Variety, Hopper will play the cop. Val Kilmer
is in early negotiations to play the mobster he's targeting in
New York City.
FLEMING TO HELM 'PRINCESS' PROJECT
Director Andy Fleming ("Dick") has signed on to helm "American
Princess." According to Variety, the film will tell of an English
peasant girl whose dreams of becoming a princess are dashed when
she is sent to America as an indentured servant after being
caught dressing up in the queen's clothing. While there, she
inadvertently gets involved in the resistance against the crown,
following and falling in love with the leader of the resistance.
Shooting is expected to begin this fall.
MGM EYEING CHAN'S 'NOSEBLEED'
Well that sounded kinda gross didn't it? Actually "Nosebleed" is
a Jackie Chan project that was recently shelved by New Line
Cinema. MGM is in negotiations to take over the film, which
centers on a window washer at the World Trade Center (Chan) who
takes a fancy to a waitress who works at the Windows of the World
restaurant on top of the building. The pair becomes embroiled in
a plot to bomb the twin towers. In related news Hong Kong film
production company Emperor Multimedia Group has tapped its own
CEO, helmer Gordon Chan ("Fist of Legend"), to direct the
upcoming pic "Highbinders," which stars Jackie Chan. Gordon Chan
replaces helmer Reginald Hudlin ("The Ladies Man").
'OUTER LIMITS' ON THE BIG SCREEN
MGM has struck a deal with Victor & Grais Prods. company to bring
a feature film version of the TV series "The Outer Limits" to a
theater near you. Currently the search is on for a scribe to
write the film's script.
MORE MOVIES COMING FROM 'GOOSEBUMPS' AUTHOR
Fox is in the midst of producing a new movie based on a book from
"Goosebumps" author R.L. Stine, according to Daily Variety. "When
Good Ghouls Go Bad" will debut on home video Sept. 4, and then
make its TV premiere on Fox Family Channel as the centerpiece of
the net's annual "13 days of Halloween" programming event in
October.
COLUMBIA GETS 'FIRST KISS'
Columbia Pictures picked up the romantic comedy spec "The Last
First Kiss" from first-time writer Kevin Bisch, according to The
Hollywood Reporter. The film will tell the story of a New York
man who has a secret identity moonlighting as a dating doctor who
specializes in priming and planning dates for lovesick men.
Despite his talent for handling other people's relationships, he
is adrift when it comes to his own love life. When he meets and
falls for a New York tabloid journalist, his jaded romantic
outlook is challenged, while his secret identity is threatened to
be uncovered.
McTEIRNAN CLOSING IN ON 'SMOKE'
In light of the troubles surrounding the "Basic Instinct 2"
project, comes word that director John McTeirnan may be shifting
his focus to a new project. Variety reports (via Cinescape
Online) that McTeirnan is closing in on a deal to helm "Smoke and
Mirrors," which would star Michael Douglas and Catherine
Zeta-Jones. The film, which is based on a true-life events, will
tell the story of 19th century magician Jean Robert Houdin, who,
along with his female assistant, carried out a mission for the
French government to expose an alleged sorcerer who was inciting
revolution in Algeria.
'X-MEN 2' RUMORS DEBUNKED
Apparently there are rumors afloat on the net that Anthony
Hopkins and Scott Caan were both joining the cast of the upcoming
"X-Men 2." I personally haven't heard them until now, but if you
have you might be interested in knowing that Marvel's Kevin Feige
spoke to the Comics2Film web site about the rumors and says there
have been no discussions regarding new cast members for the
movie. "I don't know where they get this stuff," Feige said.
MARTIN LANDAU TALKS 'EASY RIDER 2'
Martin Landau, recently sat down with syndicated columnists
Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith and spoke about the "Easy
Rider 2" project, which is being produced by Landau's company,
Miracle Entertainment. Landau revealed a great deal on the movies
plot and here it is.."It's basically a sequel 30 years later.
It's about the sons of Peter Fonda's and Jack Nicholson's
characters, who wind up together... Fonda's character has been in
jail, wrongly accused of Nicholson's murder, and word comes to
both sons that the real murderer is still out there. "One is a
biker and the other a lawyer in New York. They go on the road and
cover the same tracks as their fathers did in trying to track
down the real murderer, so it deals with the changes of the
times." Landau also added, We have a dream cast list, but we want
the script to be really good before we submit it to the actors...
[The script] is coming along nicely."
GODZILLA'S NEW FACE ONLINE
A picture of Godzilla's new face that will be used in the coming
"Godzilla: GMK" film has turned up online. You can check it out
here.. http://www.fandom.com/godzilla. In addition, the official
web site of the films director reports that pictures of the
Godzilla suit will be shown on the site sometime in the middle of
the week. You can find his site at..

BAN OVERTURNED ON 'GONE WITH THE WIND' PARODY
A U.S. appeals court on Friday overturned a publication ban on a
black writer's apparent parody of the epic novel of the Old South
"Gone With The Wind," written from the point of view of black
slaves instead of Southern aristocrats. In April a lower court
ruling halted publication of Alice Randall's book due to alleged
copyright infringement of Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel. "This
is the first round," said Martin Garbus, a lawyer for the
Mitchell estate. "There is a high possibility that this case may
wind up in the Supreme Court."
ANNA NICOLE MIGHT NOT GET $475 MILLION AFTER ALL
A federal judge on Thursday overturned a hefty $475 million
bankruptcy court judgment in favor of the former Playboy pinup.
Instead, U.S. District Court Judge David Carter said he plans to
issue a final ruling himself after reviewing the facts of the
case.
JACK LEMMON UNDERGOES SURGERY
According to Variety (via the Associated Press), Actor Jack
Lemmon underwent surgery to remove an inflamed gall bladder.
Lemmon, 75, was already hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center while
recovering from pneumonia when the gall bladder trouble arose. It
wasn't clear when Lemmon's surgery occurred or how long he had
been hospitalized for the pneumonia. Lemmon's family told Variety
that the actor was "doing great" and will likely return home
soon. {Glad to hear that. We wish Mr. Lemmon all the best!}

STAMOS, MTV TEAM FOR 'VIRGIN CHRONICLES'
Vareity reports that Actor-producer John Stamos is teaming up
with MTV to produce a reality show dubbed "The Virgin
Chronicles," in which music stars talk about their "first time."
The show will then follow up with interviews with the other party
to see how their stories match up. "Chronicles" will then reunite
the two to hash out the truth.
'BIG DIET' ON GERMAN TELEVISION
According to the AP, Six men and six women were to start an
105-day slimming drive in front of the cameras Sunday as a German
channel launched the latest variant on reality television, called
"Big Diet." The new weekly show will put its contestants in a
luxurious health farm in the western city of Cologne where,
accompanied by health experts, they will share the frustrations
of shedding the pounds with a television audience. The winners
will be the man and woman who, at the end of the 105 days, have
come closest to their target weight. They will win half of the
weight they lose in gold, with the other half to follow at the
end of the year if they stick to that weight.
'SURVIVOR' CONTESTANT TESTIFIES
The Associated Press reports that CBS released copies Friday of a
deposition given by Dirk Been in the lawsuit filed by Stacey
Stillman, a loser in the first "Survivor" game last summer who
has charged that Burnett rigged her early exit from the island.
Been testified that he did not feel coerced or manipulated into
voting the way he did. But he said that Burnett, in a
conversation on the ninth day of filming, suggested that he form
an alliance to vote against Stillman and keep Rudy Boesch on the
island. Been voted against Stillman and she was eliminated from
the game in a 5-2 vote. "Instead of doing what I thought was
right, I had voted Rudy - or voted against Stacey directly
because of the influence of Mark Burnett. ... And at that point
it began to become clear to me that maybe what Mark was doing
didn't have the best intentions in mind," Been testified. Been
said Burnett "believed that certain people would make a better TV
show than others, and he did what he could to have influence over
those people staying on the island." Burnett testified that "at
no point during the production of `Survivor' did I or any other
producer, staff member or crew member ever direct any of the
participants to vote for or against a particular participant, or
attempt to manipulate, coerce, induce, intimidate or influence
the participants' voting."
SUPERMODEL REALITY TV
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stone Stanley Entertainment
has wrapped a deal with Sportsworld Media Group and Ford Models
to bring the hit Australian reality TV format "Search for a
Supermodel" to the United States. Week by week, viewers follow
the story of local girls who dream of becoming the next Patricia
Velasquez, Stephanie Seymour, Vendela or Jerry Hall. After a
national open call, thousands of U.S. hopefuls will be whittled
down to 20 finalists, who will begin transformations into
would-be supermodels. Winners stand to earn major modeling deals
with Ford Models.
