'SIMPSONS' FILM COMING SOON?
According to Variety columnist Michael Fleming (via Cinescape
Online), not only did the cast just receive new contracts that
included pay raises, but those same deals also included option on
two feature films. Word has it that 20th Century Fox was
particularly adamant that the clauses be placed in there
suggesting that a feature film may happen earlier than expected.
Should the films happen, Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Harry
Shearer, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner and Nancy Cartwright will
each pull in $500,000 for a first film and a cool million for a
second.

VAN SANT, DAMON RETEAM FOR 'JERRY'
Variety reports that Director Gus Van Sant is reteaming with his
"Good Will Hunting" star Matt Damon to shoot a low-budget movie,
provisionally titled "Jerry." No script has been given out, but
the project stars Damon and Casey Affleck in a story described by
one studio executive as "two guys in the desert."

DURST EYEING DIFFERENT PROJECT FOR DEBUT?
In the last issue of Movie Fever we reported that Limp Bizkit
frontman Fred Durst was looking to make his directorial debut
with a project called "Life Without Joe." It now seems he may
have changed his mind. Durst on Tuesday told Daily Variety that
he wants to launch his career with "Runt," saying "'Runt' needs
to be done now. I made a band so I could direct videos and then
direct a movie." The $10 million project is the story of a teen
who is endlessly taunted and persecuted by a trio of bullying
jocks. When they kill his dog, he decides to avenge the loss
before realizing he must break the cycle of violence and move
forward with his life. In addition to "Runt" and "Life Without
Joe," another project called "Wannabe" (aka "Hoodfellas"), is
vying for his attention. The film, written by "CSI" creator
Anthony Zuiker, is the story of a young man who is injured, loses
his chance to become a professional baseball player, returns to
his Yonkers neighborhood and gets involved with the Mafia.

RENFRO, COLLINS ON 'PICNIC'
Brad Renfro and Clifton Collins Jr. ("Traffic") are in
negotiations to join Jena Malone in the indie feature "Lifers'
Picnic," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The title refers to
a picnic for inmates imprisoned for life. The story, written by
Scott Sandoe, follows a girl (Malone) and her family who visit
their lifer father on the day of the picnic. Renfro would play
Malone's brother, while Collins would play an inmate who meets
the family at the picnic only to have eyes for one of the family
members.

KASDAN TO HELM 'DREAMCATCHER'
Lawrence Kasdan will direct and produce the movie version of
Stephen King's supernatural novel "The Dreamcatcher" for Warner
Brothers-based Castle Rock Entertainment, according to The
Hollywood Reporter. "Dreamcatcher" tells the story of four
childhood friends who reunite to save the Earth from a mysterious
force.

ABRAHAM JOINS 'JOSHUA'
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award winner F.
Murray Abraham and international star Giancarlo Giannini
("Hannibal") have joined Tony Goldwyn in the cast of "Joshua,"
which is based on a novel by Joseph F. Girzone. Abraham plays a
priest and Giannini the pope in the tale of a possible Second
Coming of Jesus in a small American town. Goldwyn plays the title
role.

LONERGAN TO PEN 'TIME'
Scribe Kenneth Lonergan ("Analyze This," "The Adventures of Rocky
and Bullwinkle") has been tapped to write "Time and Again," based
on a time-travel novel by Jack Finney. The book tells the story
of a man who travels back in time to New York in 1882 as part of
a government experiment. There, plans go awry when the man finds
himself falling in love with one of the locals. Robert Redford is
planning on helming the eventual Universal Pictures film, which
he has been developing since 1994.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS 2 INFO
The latest issue of Ultimate DVD has an interview with Director
McG in which he's asked about plans for the sequel. His answer:
"It's actually being written right now. There's preliminary
conversation about it coming out in the summer of 2003...I've got
a few tricks up my sleeve as to where we are going to go next
time around. You'll still see some wire fighting, but there will
be a lot more involvement with props and imaginative thinking and
not just the hand to hand style". McG is also keen to get the
stars from the original series more involved next time around.

COLUMBIAN BEAUTY QUEEN FUMING OVER LETTERMAN JOKE
Andrea Noceti, who competed in the Miss Universe competition in
Puerto Rico last week, said Letterman insulted all Colombians and
made light of the country's deadly drug-fueled civil war when in
his opening monologue he said Noceti had swallowed bagged
heroin -- a common form of smuggling the drug -- to impress Miss
Universe judges during the "talent" competition. "I am totally
outraged," Noceti told the Bogota-based RCN television news. "I
don't think there should be jokes about something this serious
... People have died in this conflict."
Letterman has apologized, saying no offense was intended.

BRAD PITT LAUNCHING CLOTHING LINE
Pitt and his stylist, Todd Shemarya, are launching a clothing
line with the help of three Hollywood costumers, according to
DNR, the men's retail and fashion magazine by Fairchild
Publications, which also produces Women's Wear Daily and W. They
hope to have the high-end men's line inspired by Pitt's style in
stores this fall. The actor will work closely with the designers
and help with public relations, Shemarya said, but the line won't
carry his name on the label.

GO-GO'S SINGER DOES PLAYBOY PHOTO SHOOT
The lead singer of the Go-Go's did a photo shoot for Playboy in
December, which will appear in the magazine's August issue. "It's
sort of a homage to the sort of Vargas style, '50s pinup,"
Carlisle said Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning America." "You
don't have to be age 20 and size zero to be ... sexually viable
or viable as a woman," said Carlisle, 42. "And that's part of the
point that I would like or we all like to prove, anyway."

BOB UECKER AND WIFE DIVORCE
Milwaukee Brewers radio announcer and former sitcom star Bob
Uecker and his wife have gotten a divorce. The two married in
1976 in Louisiana. It was the second marriage for both of them.
Uecker, 66, played the father on the TV comedy "Mr. Belvedere"
from 1985-90.

LARRY FLYNT LOOKING FOR DIRT ON PRESIDENT BUSH
Porn king Larry Flynt admitted Wednesday he was hunting for dirt
on U.S. President George W. Bush. Flynt, who publishes the
hardcore sex magazine Hustler, fears the Bush administration will
try to gag the pornography industry, which thrived during the
past decade with the growth of the Internet. "Bush has got a spin
machine that looks like Mary Poppins. It is hard to get any
information out of Texas. You get very little cooperation," he
told a news conference in Cannes. "He is the dumbest president we
have ever had," he said in a rasping drawl. "He has his father's
cronies to prop him up. ... Eventually he will crumble, things
will go bad and we will be happy to have Clinton back."

'X-FILES' RETURNING TO FOX
A FOX network spokesman said on Wednesday that "The X-Files" will
deffinately be back for it's ninth season. He added that
"X-Files" star David Duchovny, whose role as the alien-hunting,
conspiracy-minded FBI agent Fox Mulder was scaled back this
season, will not return, except for the possibility of a cameo
appearance here and there. In addition, "The X-Files" spinoff
series "The Lone Gunman," which debuted earlier this year, will
not be renewed, the spokesman said.

'MILLIONAIRE' CUT TO 2 NIGHTS A WEEK
ABC is eliminating two weekly editions of its hit game show "Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire." The show will run on Monday nights at
8 p.m. ET ahead of "Monday Night Football", as well as on
Thursday nights at 9 p.m.

'GILMORE GIRLS' REPLACES 'BUFFY' ON WB
The WB network will shuffle its 2001-2002 prime time lineup this
fall, moving the drama "Gilmore Girls" to the Tuesday night slot
formerly held by "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," the hit show the
network lost to the rival UPN network.

ELLEN DeGENERES RETURNING TO NETWORK TV
Reuters reports that comedienne Ellen DeGeneres is slated to
return to network television in a new CBS sitcom, once again
playing a lesbian. DeGeneres will star in "The Ellen Show" as a
successful gay entrepreneur who returns to her Midwestern
hometown for a hero's welcome, only to learn that her dot-com
business has gone belly up. The show will also star Cloris
Leachman and Martin Mull.

2 MORE YEARS FOR 'ER'S' WYLE
"ER" star Noah Wyle has signed a new two-year deal that will keep
him on NBC's top-rated medical drama through the 2003-04 season.

CAMERON JOINS COUSTEAU IN UNDERSEA PROJECTS
James Cameron is teaming with ocean explorer-environmentalist
Jean-Michel Cousteau to produce a series of undersea exploration
specials for ABC. ABC has made a multiyear commitment to the
project, which also will follow the lives of the ship's crew
members as they settle into their three-year, round-the-world
research journey.
The first of the specials is expected to revolve around the
remains of the Titanic.

There seems to have been a dearth of contemporary romantic drama,
so screenwriters Gerald DiPego and Michael Seitzman, along with
director Luis Mandoki, came up with the idea of a mysterious man
named Catch (Jim Caviezel) who becomes involved with a Chicago
police officer (Jennifer Lopez) after saving her life. There's a
haunting backstory connecting the dazed, confused Catch with her,
since she arrived on the scene when he was critically injured in
a tragic automobile accident a year before. But, sometimes, being
a survivor can be a mixed blessing.

Unfortunately, this is not the spiritual, mystical, or
supernatural story which the previews and even the first half of
the film lead one to believe it will be. After all, Catch seems
to live like a vagrant, exiled to the shadows of existence. But
it's not "Ghost" and it's not "The Sixth Sense." It's not even a
big-screen version of "Touched by an Angel." It's simply about
two damaged people who are groping their way toward grasping a
second chance at life and love. Overall, the acting is far better
than the hokey, hackneyed script, which telegraphs too much in
advance, particularly about her father, whom she arrested, years
before, for spousal abuse. During its development, the story was
known as "Heart of Town," which might have been a more apt title.
Jennifer Lopez delivers a flamboyant, multi-layered performance,
her best since "Selena," as she covers a deep hurt with anger,
and Jim Caviezel captures the denial of his enigmatic character
with the most tender reserve of humor and irony. The strong
supporting cast includes Terrence Howard, Sonia Braga, Jeremy
Sisto, Alfonso Argo and Shirley Knight.

On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Angel Eyes" is a
celestial 4, dealing with the complex nature of love.

JENNIFER LOPEZ

Jennifer Lopez whose larger-than-life presence propelled her
from television to film roles, is the highest-paid Latina
actress with $1 million she is asking per film. Lopez was born
in the Bronx, New York on July 24, 1970. The daughter of a
computer specialist and kindergarten teacher, Lopez always knew
she wanted to be a performer. She started her showbiz career as
a dancer in stage musicals most notably in a European tour of
Golden Musicals of Broadway and in a Japanese tour of
Synchronicity and in various music videos. But it was when she
won a national competition of about two thousand contestants
vying to become one of choreographer Rosie Perez's "fly girl"
dancers on Fox's "In Living Color" that Lopez finally cracked
into Hollywood.

After a couple of seasons spent with "In Living Color" Lopez got
her shot at acting when a co-worker, whose husband was writing
and producing a pilot called "South Central" for Fox, suggested
her for a part. The show was practically over before it started,
but it did pave the actress's way into two more short-lived
series, "Second Chances" and "Malibu Road." Lopez effectively
brought her television career to an end in 1993, with a role as a
heroic nurse in Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7; the
siren call of the big screen could no longer be ignored.

In 1995, Lopez appeared in Gregory Nava's critically acclaimed Mi
Familia, a film that introduced the actress's talent to top
filmmakers. In 1996, she beat out Ashley Judd and Lauren Holly
for the supporting role of Robin Williams' teacher in the Francis
Ford Coppola comedy Jack. Since then Jennifer has gone on to star
in such films as Selena, Money Train, Anaconda, Blood and Wine,
and numerous others. Jennifer has been accredited as being People
magazine's Fifty Most Beautiful People for 1997. She has been
married once, but the marriage only lasted about a year and is
now currently dating Sean "Puffy" Combs. Jennifer's new album
entitled "JLO" hits the streets on January 23, just a few days
before you can see here starring in the film "The Wedding
Planner" with Matthew McConaughey scheduled for a January 26
release.
