JONES NOT REPRISING ROLE IN 'MIB2'?
Will Smith is all set to return for "Men in Black 2," which ramps
up this summer, but is Tommy Lee Jones? According to the New York
Times (via Zap2It), Jones will not be reprising his role.
Apparently the actor is asking a whopping $40 million, which is
$20 million more than Will Smith will get. The Zap2It site notes
that when a star wants such an outrageous sum for a sequel, it
usually means they don't want to play the part again and only a
ton of dough will get them to do it. Such was the case with Jodie
Foster and The Silence of the Lambs sequel Hannibal.

NO 'SCARY MOVIE' FOR BRANDO
Well It's official. Marlon Brando has dropped out of a reported
$2 million deal to play a four-day cameo role in "Scary Movie 2"
because of continued illness, Dimension Films said on Tuesday.

REITMAN SET FOR 'SMOKING'
Jason Reitman (son of Ivan Reitman) is set to adapt Christopher
Buckley's 1994 satirical novel "Thank You for Smoking" and make
his feature directing debut with the project. According to The
Hollywood Reporter, The novel centers on a politically incorrect
hero, Nick Naylor, a tobacco lobbyist responsible for marketing
smoking to the public. When he is kidnapped and covered with
nicotine patches, Naylor does an about-face and becomes an avid
fighter against smoking. Becoming an instant hero, he courts the
media and is pampered by Hollywood, while the FBI is convinced
the kidnapping was a publicity stunt and aims to prove that
Naylor is a fraud.

OLIN JOINS 'DARKNESS'
Lena Olin (Chocolat) is the latest addition to join Anna Paquin,
Iain Glen, Giancarlo Giannini, Fele Martinez and Fermi Reixach in
the developing thriller, "Darkness." Olin will play the mother of
a family that moves into a remote house that has a horrible dark
past which gradually threatens to tear the group apart.

'TIME MACHINE' BEHIND SCHEDULE
While talking to the ShowBiz Ireland web site, pop star turned
actress Samantha Mumba revealed that the "Time Machine" project
was a month behind schedule due to changes made by director
Stephen Spielberg. "He decided that he wanted to change a few
things so now we've got to re-shoot everything. Everything has
gone back to square one but its all for the best I suppose. Both
Omero (Mumba's younger brother) and I were initially gutted
because we had worked so hard. But we're all in it together and
everyone wants to get the movie back on track," Mumba said.

'SOMEONE' GOES TO WARNER BROS.
Variety reports that Tollin Robbins Prods. has made a deal with
Warner Bros. and Gaylord Films for "Someone to Lean On," a true
story set on the high school football field. Based on a Sports
Illustrated story by Gary Smith, "Someone" is the story of a
mentally challenged boy who, despite being able to barely write
or speak, transforms himself, with the help from a high school
football coach, from school laughingstock to a beloved figure in
a small town.

PALTROW IN 'ME TIMES THREE'
Miramax Films has made a deal to turn Alex Witchel's upcoming
Knopf novel "Me Times Three" into a romantic comedy, with Gwyneth
Paltrow attached to star. According to Variety columnist Michael
Fleming, The novel was touted in the book-buying community as an
American version of "Bridget Jones's Diary," and Miramax closed
the deal right after it marketed and distributed that film, the
weekend's top box office grosser.

'FANTASTIC FOUR' GETS DIRECTOR
Variety reports that Peyton Reed, who helmed the cheerleader
comedy "Bring It On" will take over the helming duties for the
big screen version of the popular Marvel comic team, the
"Fantastic Four." Also, word has that Doctor Doom will be the
villian in the film.

JULIA ROBERTS VS T-REX
Sony has moved Julia Roberts' first post-Oscar movie, America's
Sweethearts, which also marks Revolution Studios head Joe Roth's
return to the director's chair July 20th. The film will now go
head-to-head with "Jurassic Park III." {What a weekend that
should be!}

CHYNA CAST AS 'WONDER WOMAN'?
World Entertainment News Network reports that WWF superstar Chyna
has landed the role of the Amazon superhero based on DC Comics'
series of the same name in the developing "Wonder Woman" project.
However, the Comics2Film web site quoted a source at Silver
Pictures denying the casting rumors, calling them "ridiculous"
and adding, "There are no cast attachments at all." {This rumor
somehow doesn't surprise me. These days it seems if the role
calls for a tough and tumble women, then it's got to belong to
Chyna}

SILVER TALKS 'MATRIX'
"The Matrix" producer Joel Silver believes the fight sequences in
the upcoming sequel will surpass those in "Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon." Silver told the Popcorn U.K. Web site that "The
'Matrix' sequel is so beyond anything you could ever imagine, it
is really staggering what we are going to do on that movie.
People are not going to believe it, but that's what we have to do
because a lot has happened since the first 'Matrix' movie and now
we have to be ahead of the wave."

'ELECTRA WOMAN AND DYNA GIRL' TALK
Randy Pope, a senior VP at Krofft Pictures, which produced the
original series talked to Entertainment Weekly recently about how
the "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" live action remake will be
aimed more towards a PG-13 audience, rather than the Saturday
morning cartoon crowd. Electra Woman (Markie Post) will be
transformed into a "disillusioned, foul mouthed, trailer park
alcoholic" whose superheroine career has dried up since the
original Dyna Girl (Anne Stedman) left the biz to become a
supermodel. "It's being completely revamped for a teen and adult
audience," says Pope. "It's more like 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,'
but funny."

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. ARRESTED AGAIN
Robert Downey Jr. was arrested early on Tuesday for allegedly
taking an unknown "stimulant," police said, an offense that could
send him back to prison. Culver city police spokesman Tankenson
said an officer on routine patrol spotted Downey alone in an
alley between a motel and a liquor store acting in a "suspicious"
manner and approached, not aware that it was the actor. About a
minute into their conversation, Tankenson said, the officer
noticed Downey "displaying symptoms consistent with stimulant
use" and arrested him, discovering his identity. He said no drugs
were found in Downey's possession and that he cooperated with the
officer. Tankenson said a urine test would determine within
several days if Downey had been under the influence of a
controlled substance. Because of this incident the folks at "Ally
McBeal" have decided to release Downey from the show.

THE LAST MOVIE...

For the first time in many years, an old man traveled from his
rural town to the city to attend a movie. After buying his
ticket, he stopped at the concession stand to purchase some
popcorn. Handing the attendant $1.50, he couldn't help but
comment, "The last time I came to the movies, popcorn was only 15
cents."

"Well, sir," the attendant replied with a grin, "You're really
going to enjoy yourself. We have sound now."

ANOTHER 'JACKASS' COPYCAT
Two Kentucky teenagers have been injured trying to recreate a
scene from MTV's outlandish Jackass. It is the second copycat
incident in as many weeks and third since January. According to
police, one teenager, a 17-year-old, drove a car towards his
16-year-old friend, who stood in the middle of the road. The boy
in the road was supposed to jump out of the way at the last
second. Guess what? He didn't, and was hit by the car. A
passenger was operating a video camera when the car hit the
wannabe stuntman, who is listed in good condition with a broken
leg and assorted cuts, bumps and bruises. {I did some stupid
things when I was that age, but that wasn't one of them!}

THURMAN AND OTHERS SET FOR 'BLINDNESS'
Uma Thurman, Juliette Lewis, Gena Rowlands, Justin Chambers and
Ben Gazzara will star in HBO Films' "Hysterical Blindness," based
on Laura Cahill's adaptation of her stage play of the same name,
reports The Hollywood Reporter. "Blindness" is a comedic drama
about two New Jersey women (Thurman and Lewis) and their
unrelenting quest for love and meaning in their lives as they
discover that even simple dreams can be elusive. Rowlands plays
the mother to Thurman, Gazzara plays Rowlands' love interest, and
Chambers is Thurman's love interest. The project is scheduled to
debut next year on HBO.

Zero," a telefilm to star Katherine Heigl ("Roswell") and Kerr

the San Francisco Bay Area.

Freddy Got Fingered (Rated R)
Starring: Tom Green, Rip Torn, Harland Williams,
Marisa Coughlan, Julie Hagerty
Release Date: April 20, 2001

Review by Susan Granger
SSG Syndicate
http://www.susangranger.com

Humorist Max Wilk once said: "This picture is so bad that you
shouldn't even walk down the street where it's playing in case it
starts to rain and you're tempted to go inside and seek shelter."
And that comment was never more valid than for this wretched
comedy directed by and starring MTV comedian Tom Green ("Road
Trip"). Devised by Green and Derek Harvie, the story revolves
around a 28 year-old skateboarding slacker named Gord Brody, who
moves back home to live in his parents' basement when he quits
his job at a cheese factory and decides to be an animator. Over
the objections of his adoring mother (Julie Hagerty), his
irascible father (Rip Torn) thinks he should stop "doodling,"
grow up, get a real job and get out of the house. Their bickering
soon becomes a foul feud which escalates into an all-out war.

Meanwhile, Gord has a girl-friend, Betty (Marisa Coughlan), an
amateur rocket scientist/nymphomaniac, a paraplegic whose idea of
foreplay is having her lifeless legs beaten with a bamboo stick!
Plus there's his buddy (Harland Williams) and annoying younger
brother, Freddy (Eddie Kaye Thomas). While not exactly
autobiographical, Green admits that some actual events during his
rise to fame and fortune doing "The Tom Green Show" in his native
Canada inspired the story. So what goes wrong? Everything.
Green's crass, crude, maniacal behavior - under the guise of
"shock comedy" - is beyond bizarre and decidedly depraved,
particularly raunchy sequences involving a bloody deer carcass, a
newborn swung by its umbilical cord, and inappropriate fondling
of a horse and an elephant.

On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Freddy Got Fingered" is a
gross, disgusting 1. And the titular "fingering" is an alleged
accusation about Gord's father abusing his brother.
