SPYGLASS EYEING DEATH PITCH
Spyglass Entertainment is eyeing a thriller pitch from
Emmy-winning scribe James Manos Jr. based on the real-life "angel
of death" case playing out in California's courts, according to
the Hollywood Reporter. The story will be based on public
documents and media reports about the case of Efren Saldivar, a
former Glendale hospital worker who told police three years ago
that he was an "angel of death" who secretly killed as many as
200 patients over nine years by injecting them with suffocating,
paralyzing drugs through their intravenous lines. Saldivar is
currently in prison awaiting trial.

the middle of a corrupt department. Michele is currently working
on Michael Mann's "Ali" project.
STOCKARD CHANNING EYES 'LIFE'

for the age group. Christensen will play a new girl in town who
falls for a popular championship swimmer (Bradford) with
aspirations for the Olympic Games When he doesn't return her
affections, she becomes obsessed with him. Appleby would play
Bradford's girlfriend.

JULIA ROBERTS LOSES OSCAR
Well her wax figure anyway. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences sent a letter to the Hollywood Wax Museum asking
that it remove a replica of an Oscar statue from its wax figure
of Julia Roberts. Museum spokesman John Blanchette said the fake
Oscar came from a souvenir shop next door. The statue was placed
in the wax figure's arms March 23 in anticipation of Roberts'
best-actress win for "Erin Brockovich" at the Oscar ceremony two
days later. Such use of an Oscar replica violated the Academy's
trademark rights, said spokeswoman Leslie Unger. "The statuette
is our copyrighted property, and it is not something available
for use in any context that somebody else might think to use it
in," Unger said. The wax museum agreed to remove the fake Oscar.
"We have complied, but we felt bullied, and the wax figure isn't
happy either," Blanchette said.
BETTE DAVIS OSCAR FOR 'JEZEBEL' TO BE AUCTIONED
Bette Davis' Oscar for her performance as a spoiled Southern
belle in the 1938 film "Jezebel" will be sold at a Hollywood
memorabilia auction in July. The Oscar is expected to fetch
between $150,000 to $250,000. The record for an Oscar, or any
piece of Hollywood memorabilia, is the $1.54 million paid by pop
star Michael Jackson for the "Gone With the Wind" 1939 best
picture Oscar.
WANTED: APOLOGY FROM JAY LENO
The head of a national anti-bias group demanded an apology
Saturday from Jay Leno for his comment that Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani was fascist to appoint a decency committee on art. In a
departure from his usual schtick, Leno on Thursday labeled
Giuliani a "fascist" for appointing a decency commission to
determine whether certain pieces of art are offensive. The
comedian compared Giuliani's efforts to Adolf Hitler's crusade to
remove what he called "degenerate art" from German museums in the
early years of the Third Reich. William Fugazy, chairman of the
National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations and a Giuliani
supporter said his group planned to mount a letter-writing
campaign to NBC urging Leno to apologize.
SCHWARZENEGGER HITTING TIMES SQUARE IN HUMMER
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rudolph Giuliani will be driving a
bright orange Hummer through the streets of Times Square on
Tuesday to announce the $13 million donation General Motors is
giving to the National Inner City Games Foundation.
Schwarzenegger is national chairman of the foundation, which
offers summer and after-school activities to keep young people
away from violence, drug use and pregnancy.
VERSACE AUCTION RAKES IN OVER $10 MILLION
An auction of furniture, art and clothing design sketches
belonging to slain fashion designer Gianni Versace ended on
Saturday after generating more than $10 million in three days.

TWO MORE YEARS FOR 'JUST SHOOT ME'
NBC has renewed its hit comedy "Just Shoot Me" starring David
Spade for two more years.
REALITY TV SHOW SET FOR BRITIAN
The Sky One network and Channel Four announced on Friday they
were teaming up to produce a British version of the U.S. show
"Temptation Island." The show called "Alpha," will chronicle the
lives of five men and five women considering becoming Christians.
Hosted by veteran television personality Sir David Frost, the
program will follow the participants as they embark on a 10-week
Alpha course, which provides an introduction and information on
Christianity at a central London church. "They have all got
varying backgrounds and attitudes to Christianity," an ITV
spokeswoman said. "The show follows what made them do the course,
how they react to the questions which are raised along the way,
and will see if they have become Christians by the end of it."
MORE REALITY TV
A new reality TV series is coming to NBC. The show "lost" is
adapted from a British series, which will drop teams of
contestants off in the middle of nowhere and challenge them to
make their way back to the Statue of Liberty. The program will be
produced by Conan O'Brien's NBC-based production banner, Conanco;
Windfall Films; and NBC Studios. "The concept is incredibly
simple," Windfall Films head David Dugan said. "One of the
producers who works for us, Rob Davies, came up with the idea of
'Wouldn't it be weird if you were dropped somewhere on the
planet, but you had no idea where you were, and you have do
whatever you can to get home?' "The series will involve three
teams of three people -- one of whom is a trained camera
operator -- who are blindfolded and transported to different
remote sites "far removed from human habitation," Dugan said. The
contestants will be equipped with only $100 and minimal
provisions. The camera operators also will be in the dark as to
the location of the site where their journey back to Lady Liberty
begins. Dugan said producers will monitor the progress of the
teams with "discreetly placed observers," and the teams will be
required to contact producers every 24 hours via a satellite
phone.
'3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN,' NO MORE
Well the end for "3rd Rock from the Sun" had been rumored since
January when word got out that a potential series finale had been
taped as NBC considered whether to renew the show after its sixth
season. It turnes out that the show will end on May 22nd. The
show, which has been off the NBC schedule since Feb. 27, will
return to the airwaves on April 17, then run each week until the
May 22 finale that ends with the four aliens sitting in the same
red convertible that first brought them to Earth.
