WEAVER DEBUNKS 'ALIEN 5' ONCE MORE
Recently Sigourney Weaver sat down with the folks over at TV
Guide Online and spoke of the 'Alien 5' rumours that were
floating around. Weaver said there are no "immediate plans" that
she's aware of to do Alien 5, "As far as I know, there is no
truth to any of it. My agents both called me and said, 'This is
in the paper,' and I said, 'You gotta be kidding me!'" However,
she did admit that she might be willing to do another film for
the franchise, saying, "I think if we ever did another Alien, I
would prefer that it be on a much smaller, sort of
character-driven level. In addition, Weaver mentions in the
interview a rumour she's heard, saying, "I think [20th Century
Fox's] plan is to make it Alien vs. Predator, and I would just as
soon not be in that, although I am sure I could whip them both."

OSCAR NOMS EYE 'VIRGIN' ROLE
Benicio Del Toro ("Traffic"), Juliette Binoche ("Chocolat"),
Geoffrey Rush ("Quills") and Chloe Sevigny ("Boys Don't Cry") are
in final talks to star in an untitled romantic epic based on the
Katie Campbell novel "The Assumption of the Virgin." The novel
follows the taboo romance during the Italian Renaissance, in
15th-century Florence between the painter Fra Lippi (Del Toro),
and the nun who posed for him (Binoche).

'INSTINCT 2' OFFERED TO BROSNAN
While talking to USA Today's Jeannie WIlliams, Pierce Brosnan
revealed that he was offered the male lead role in the troubled
"Basic Instinct 2" project, but turned it down. Brosnan found
that the character had "distasteful elements" and he wasn't
interested in playing the part after his recent dark turn in
"Tailor of Panama."

UNIVERSAL GETS REINDEER STORY
Universal Pictures has picked up the feature film rights to an
untitled Christmas comedy pitch about Santa's reindeer. The story
will tell of how the reindeer came together and is a cross
between Babe and The Full Monty, as described by the Hollywood
Reporter.

PENN LOOKING TO JOIN 'OLEANDER'
Robin Wright Penn is in negotiations to join Michelle Pfeiffer
and Renee Zellweger in Warner Bros.' "White Oleander." According
to the Hollywood reporter, the film will begin shooting in Los
Angeles in mid-April and will tell the story of a woman
(Pfeiffer) imprisoned for life for the murder of her former lover
and how her teenage daughter, who has yet to be cast must
navigate a new reality through a series of Los Angeles foster
homes. The daughter eventually is asked to falsify her trial
testimony to free her mother. Penn would play one of the girl's
foster mothers, as will Zellweger.

ROACH SIGNS FILM DEAL WITH FOX
Jay Roach, the director of the two "Austin Powers" films and
"Meet the Parents," has signed a production pact with 20th
Century Fox. The first project Roach has set is an untitled pitch
he'll write with "Saturday Night Live" scribe Adam McKay. Some
projects to follow would be a third "Austin Powers" flick and
"Meet the Fockers," the "Meet the Parents" sequel set up at
Universal.

SPEAKING OF 'MEET THE PARENTS'
The film is generating record numbers in the DVD and VHS rental
market. The comedy, which stars Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro,
generated far more DVD rental spending in its opening week than
any title ever with $4.36 million, according to VSDA Vidtrac data
provided by Daily Variety sister publication Video Business. It
also generated the most videocassette rental revenue of any title
this year: $17.05 million.

WANTED: 'TERMINATOR 3' SAYS CHYNA
Professional wrestler Chyna gave an interview on French Canadian
MTV's "MusiquePlus" program and confirmed that while she hasn't
signed onboard for the role of the female terminator, she is
working hard to get the role.

'DAMNED' RELEASE DELAYED
The release date of the upcoming Queen of the Damned movie, based
on Anne Rice's novel of the same name, has been pushed back to
2002. The movie had been scheduled to open in October. However,
The delay did not keep them from opening the official website,
although the site currently only contains a photograph of Aaliyah
in the role of vampire Queen Akasha and film details.

'SPAWN 2' MOVING FORWARD
Terry Fitzgerald of Todd McFarlane Entertainment talked recently
to the Comics Continuum and revealed the following, "We are
working on the first draft of the Spawn 2 script as we speak, so
any discussion on talent is way too premature." Earlier in the
week IGN Filmforce spoke to Jai White, the actor who played Spawn
in the first film and when asked if he would reprise the role he
answered, "There's a very strong chance of that. Oh yeah! Spawn
was just purchased by Sony. And they're thinkin' they'll make the
movie serious, like horror/action; very much like the comic book.
And that's the way you do it."

'RESIDENT EVIL' UPDATE
Dark Horizons reports that Constantin Film's has just sent out a
fax with the basic details of the production for the "Resident
Evil" project. The fax states the following..Shooting began March
5th and joining the previously mentioned Milla Jovovich, Michelle
Rodriguez & Eric Mabius is actor James Purefoy and German actress
Heike Makatsch. There's also a synopsis which reads as follows:
"Alice (Jovovich) and Rain (Rodriguez) are the leaders of an
commando-team, which break into a gene-laboraty called "the
hive". There a deadly virus has broken out, killed all personal
and then they ressurect as zombies. Alice has just three hours to
close the lab, otherwise the whole world will be infected. But
soon she realises that the zombies are not the only dangerous
species".

PITT, ANISTON LOOKING TO HAVE CHILDREN
During an interview with the Sunday Express magazine, Bradd Pitt
talked of his marriage and his interest in having children with
wife Jennifer Aniston. "Marriage is great. It's made me feel very
good about taking this kind of journey together with a terrific
woman who wants to share my life and share the journey with me,"
he said. As far as children goes Pitt added, "The planning is
under way, negotiations are taking place, and I'm willing to
predict a successful conclusion."

MAMAS AND PAPAS FOUNDER DIES
Rock and roll veteran John Phillips, the founder and main
songwriter for the 1960's California pop group the Mamas and the
Papas, died of heart failure Sunday morning. He was 65.

NAPSTER USE DECLINING
The AP reports that The number of songs being traded through
Napster has dropped sharply since the company began policing its
system for unauthorized songs, a research firm reported Thursday.
Napster users were downloading 50% fewer files as the company
beefed up its screening technology Wednesday, according to
Webnoize, a firm that has followed Napster usage closely. Before
upgrading its system to block access to infringing content, the
average number of files shared per Napster user was 172. After
the upgrade, the average number of files shared per user dropped
to 71.

IT'S A BOY!
Natalie Maines, the lead singer of Grammy-winning country music
trio the Dixie Chicks, gave birth to a baby boy in Austin, Texas
on Thursday. Jackson Slade Pasdar weighed in at 6 pounds (2.72
kg) and 20 inches long (50.8 cm). Mother and baby were reported
to be doing very well.

ANN SOTHERN DIES AT 92
Ann Sothern, the veteran actress best known for her deft
portrayals of sassy and resourceful blonds in television sitcoms
of the 1950s and 1960s, died of heart failure Thursday at her
home in Ketchum, Idaho. She was 92. Sothern, who started in
Hollywood as an extra and spent a decade as a B-movie regular,
became a major star after playing the lead role in 1939's
"Maisie," an MGM film about the adventures of an energetic
showgirl that was originally intended for Jean Harlow.

PUFFY ACQUITED
Rap impresario Sean Puffy Combs was acquitted Friday of taking an
illegal handgun into a crowded Manhattan hip-hop club where three
people were later wounded. He was also cleared of trying to bribe
his way out of trouble by using a diamond ring given to him by
ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

INTERIOR DESIGNER SUING NBC
The New York Post reports that a man who says he inspired the
wildly gay character Jack on "Will & Grace" is suing the smash
NBC sitcom's creators, claiming they promised to pay him by
buying him a house and car for the use of his persona. He has yet
to receive these items, he charges.

TBS INC. OUSTING WCW
TBS is removing "WCW Monday Nitro" and "WCW Thunder" from Turner
Network Television and TBS Superstation, respectively, because
"it is not consistent with the upscale brands we've built with
TNT and TBS," a spokesman said late Friday. "Therefore, we made a
decision not to carry wrestling in its current format any
longer." The TBS Inc. spokesman also said a previously announced
sale of WCW is proceeding.
