TIM ALLEN, GIBSON TEAM FOR 'STARCHILD'
Tim allen and Mel Gibson are teaming up to develop a film for
Paramount Pictures called "Starchild." According to Variety, the
film which is being developed by Allen's Boxing Cat Prods. and
Gibson's Icon Entertainment follows the fortunes of a socially
challenged CIA agent who helps a friendly alien get back home,
saving him from the aftermath of an interplanetary war.
Production is expected to begin after the possible writer and
actor strikes this summer.

MIRAMAX TAKES 'QUIET'
Miramax Films is in final negotiations to buy North and South
American rights to "The Quiet American," starring Michael Caine
and Brendan Fraser. Set in the Vietnam era the story revolves
around the ambivalent friendship between a jaded, opium-addicted
British newspaper reporter (Caine) and an idealistic but naive
American aid worker (Fraser). Their relationship is complicated
by their rivalry for the affections of a Vietnamese girl -- a
love triangle that leads to murder.

'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' ON IMAX SCREENS
The Disney movie studio on Wednesday unveiled plans to re-release
an Imax version of its animated hit "Beauty and the Beast" next
year in hopes of repeating the strong showing of "Fantasia/2000"
on the jumbo-sized screens.

PHOENIX PICTURES TO REMAKE 'PATH'
Sony-based Phoenix Pictures is set to remake "Pathfinder," the
Oscar-nominated Norwegian action-suspenser from director Nils
Gaup. According to Variety, The story tells of a young man whose
family is slaughtered by a band of marauders. After leading an
attack against them and being taken captive, the young man
orchestrates their doom using an intricate ruse.

'STUART 2' CASTING INFO
Michael J. Fox is closing in on a deal to once again provide the
voice for the title character in the coming "Stuart Little 2"
project. Variety columnist Michael Fleming reports that talks
have also begun with the first film's life-action stars, Geena
Davis, Jonathan Lipinski and Hugh Laurie, to reprise their roles.
In addition, Variety columnist Army Archerd reports that Melanie
Griffith has signed on and will be providing the voice of
Margolo, a highly sophisticated bird who becomes a friend of the
title character.

A-TEAM RUMOUR
A rumour with a capital R has hit some US radio stations
regarding casting for the A-Team movie. This rumour has Mel
Gibson possibly up for a role in the film version of the 80's TV
series and in related news, Kevin Brodbin (The Glimmer Man) is
set to write the script.

CARLIN ROLE: 'JAY & SILENT BOB'
George Carlin confirmed in a lecture to Yale students yesterday
that he plays a hitchhiker in the coming "Jay and Silent Bob
Strike Back."

ELLIOTT JOINS 'SCARY 2'
Chris Elliott is the latest addition to the cast of "Scary Movie
2." As of yet, there is no word on what part he will play in the
film -- which starts production this week. In related news, it
was
earlier reported that Anna Faris has signed on to reprise her
role as Cindy Campbell.

GIBSON JOINS 'BEACHED'
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Helmer Brian Gibson has come
aboard to develop with an eye toward directing the Fox 2000
comedy "Beached." The film is about a 4-year-old child of two
cruise-line entertainers who is swept overboard, survives and is
mysteriously taken care of by whales. Twenty years later, a huge
creature -- who happens to be the grown-up child -- washes up on
shore and, in discovering he is the world's greatest swimmer,
must reintegrate himself on land.

MGM CLOSE TO 'GRIMM'
According to Variety, MGM is getting closer to buying a pitch
called "The Brothers Grimm," said to be a
fantasy-horror-adventure. The project comes by way of "Scream 3"
scribe, Ehren Kruger and tells the story of brothers Jacob and
Willem Grimm, who collect folklore. As luck would have it, their
seeming experience puts them in a situation where they are forced
to investigate a series of a disappearances by a number of girls
in what is believed to be a haunted forest.

OSCAR NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
DreamWorks/Universal Pictures' Roman epic "Gladiator" slayed the
competition with 12 nominations. In a close second was "Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon" with 10 nominations. Filling out the
diverse field of best picture contenders were Miramax Films'
"Chocolat," Universal/Sony's legal drama "Erin Brockovich" and
USA Films' illicit drug trade drama "Traffic." For a full list of

21ST ANNUAL GOLDEN RASPBERRY AWARDS
Also known as "The Razzies" announced their nominees on Monday.
For those of you who don't know, "The Razzies" represent the
worst in this years films, and are handed out one day before the
Oscars. Some of the nominees were --
Worst Picture: Battlefield Earth, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2,
The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Little Nicky, The Next Best
Thing.
Worst Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio (The Beach), Adam Sandler (Little
Nicky), Sylvester Stallone (Get Carter), Arnold Schwarzenegger
(The 6th Day), John Travolta (Battlefield Earth and Lucky
Numbers)

JOHN STEWART TO HOST GRAMMY'S
Comedian Jon Stewart, who anchors a weeknight mock news program
on the Comedy Central cable TV network, has been chosen to host
next week's Grammy Awards telecast. Stewart will step into the
Grammy-hosting shoes filled during the past two years by talk
show personality and actress Rosie O'Donnell, who received
lukewarm reviews for her stints as emcee.

SCI FI GETS 'BATTLEFIELD'
The Sci Fi cable network has bought the exclusive broadcast
rights to "Battlefield Earth" for a reported amount in the $2
million range. The network's deal begins in December 2002.

DOWNEY JR. RETURNING TO 'McBEAL'
Despite his court hearing next week in his latest drug possession
case, Robert Downey Jr., has signed to return to the popular Fox
television show "Ally McBeal" for the remainder of the season.

COMING AND GOING
FOX has renewed "That '70s Show" through 2003. The syndicated
"Cindy Margolis Show" and "Baywatch Hawaii" have both been
cancelled.

JENNIFER LOPEZ, PUFF DADDY BREAK UP
Rap star Sean "Puffy" Combs and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez,
rumored for weeks to be on the brink of a breakup, have ended
their romance after more than two years, his spokeswoman said on
Wednesday. "Mr. Combs confirmed that he and his love, Jennifer
Lopez, have in fact broken up," his publicist, Nathalie Moar,
said in a statement. "Mr. Combs is confirming this today as he
wanted to put all the rumors surrounding their relationship to
rest. At this difficult time we ask that you respect his
privacy."

'SNL' FINAL APPEARENCE
Molly Shannon will make her final regular appearance on this
weekends "Saturday Night Live."

If you enjoy a sentimental, unabashedly romantic love story, this
is for you. Keanu Reeves stars as a San Francisco ad exec, a
totally self-absorbed workaholic, who is relentlessly stalked by
an irresistibly beguiling free-spirit, played by Charlize Theron.
"Your intimacy skills have withered away to nothing. You could
become emotionally extinct," she says, sensing his inhibitions.
"Come live with me for one month. A month is long enough to be
meaningful and short enough to stay out of trouble." After
refusing her unconventional offer several times, he finally
agrees - but only after he's fired and his girl-friend walks out.
Thus, he becomes her November self-discovery mission and,
predictably, they fall in love. But you know there's got to be a
catch - and there is. He first senses trouble when she refuses to
see her family at Thanksgiving, explaining: "Holiday fights are a
little too traditional for my taste."

Based on Herman Raucher's 1968 comedy/drama, written by Kurt
Voelker and Paul Yurick, and directed by Pat O'Connor, it's the
timeless and touching story of a woman with a terminal illness
which makes her appreciate life as it should be lived - "firmly
and joyously in the moment" - and an unquenchable desire to be
remembered once she's gone. Unfortunately, Keanu Reeves displays
the emotional range of a golf club, leaving Charlize Theron to
carry every scene, aided by Jason Isaacs as her kindly
transvestite neighbor, Greg Germann as Keanu's parasitical
partner, and Liam Aiken as the fatherless kid across the street.

On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Sweet November" is a
schmaltzy 7 - and I predict you won't leave the theater without
shedding tears. If you're curious, the original "Sweet November"
with Sandy Dennis, Anthony Newley and Theodore Bikel is now
available on video.

CHARLIZE THERON

Charlize was born in Benoni, South Africa on August 7, 1975. She
was the only child of Charles and Gerda Theron, two South African
farmers who also ran a road construction business. At age 6,
young Charlize began studying ballet, a pursuit that would
command her attention throughout the next decade of her life.
Eventually her study of ballet landed the talented teen at a
school for the performing arts in Johannesburg, where she
occasionally sat in on drama classes. Near this time, Charlize
was offered a modelling contract in Milan, Italy after winning a
local contest. Theron was unable to land any major modeling
contracts or cover shots, and eventually the newness of her
latest endeavor wore thin. When an American magazine flew her to
New York for a photo shoot, she decided to stick around and make
a new life for herself in the States.

On her own in the Big Apple at age 18, Charlize found it
difficult to make ends meet. She decided not to model, but return
to ballet. She began dancing with the Joffrey School in New York,
partaking in such classics as 'The Nutcracker Suite' and 'Swan
Lake.' This was short lived however, when she tragically suffered
a knee injury that would end her ballet dancing career before it
had a chance to truly begin.

Without the ability to dance ballet, and nearly broke, Charlize
bought a one way ticket to Hollywood at the urging of her mother,
Gerda. As if things couldn't get worse, it turned out that her
travel agent booked a flight to Los Angeles. Once arrived at her
destination, Theron checked into a low-rent L.A. motel and spent
the next two weeks blundering around town attempting to make
connections. She was eventually discovered When an L.A. bank
teller refused to cash her out-of-state check because she did not
have an account at the bank, so she threw a "tantrum," which was
witnessed by a talent manager named John Crosby, who also
represents Rene Russo and John Hurt. Crosby offered his card to
Theron, she got in touch with him, and he agreed to take her on
as a client.

Thereafter, Theron underwent countless auditions for television
commercials, but was unable to land a single gig. Her
perseverance eventually resulted in her "2 Days in tthe Valley"
role, which was immediately followed by a chance to work with
childhood crush Tom Hanks on his directorial debut, 1996's "That
Thing You Do!" Since then she has starred in such films as,
"Trial and Error," "The Devil's Advocate," "Celebrity," "Mighty
Joe Young," "The Cider House Rules," and a few more listed below.

Currently Charlize is dating Stephan Jenkins, the lead singer of
the band Third Eye Blind and can be found in the upcoming film,
"Sweet November."

scenes from his life as an angel flash onscreen. There is a
quick scene showing Elisabeth Shue's pregnant belly. She did the
