Actor Tom Cruise filed for divorce from his wife Nicole Kidman on
Wednesday, less than two months after they renewed their vows in
a romantic 10th wedding anniversary. Cruise, 38, cited
irreconcilable differences in divorce papers which gave the date
of separation as December, 2000. In a statement earlier this week
the couple cited the strains of their divergent careers was cause
for the split, but it has been speculated that the dispute was
over Cruise's adherence to the Church of Scientology or her

the fall out was over whether to spend their lives in Australia,
where she was raised, or the United States, where he was brought
up.

NOT LOOKING GOOD FOR 'COLOSSEUM'
According to the Holywood Reporter, the syndicated "Colosseum" TV
series is officially not on the fall 2001 schedule, which suggest
that there may still be hope, though slight, of the series
actually happening. The series, which would star Andrew 'Dice'
Clay tells of a modern day wiseguy who finds himself thrown back
into the past in ancient Rome. There, he becomes a talent booker
in the world of gladiatorial events.

PLUG PULLED ON 'CAROLINE'
"Caroline," one of the most anticipated new syndicated strips for
the fall, has been dropped by Paramount Domestic Television at
the starting line despite strong nationwide clearances, including
New York and Los Angeles. Sources indicated that the beleaguered
daytime daypart in broadcast could not generate sufficiently
strong license fees for the show to be economically viable.

Hannibal (Rated R)
Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, Francesca Neri,
Giancarlo Giannini, Ray Liotta.
Release Date: February 9, 2001

Review by Susan Granger
SSG Syndicate
http://www.susangranger.com

Terrifying, tantalizing Hannibal Lechter is ba-a-a-ck! In this
long-awaited sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991), Anthony
Hopkins reprises his Oscar-winning role of Hannibal the Cannibal.
"I have been in a state of hibernation for some time," he
explains. His portrayal is brilliant, capturing the diabolical
doctor's subversive charm and baroque wit, particularly as he's
about to dissect another victim. In this alibi-ridden world,
perhaps what makes this sociopathic serial killer so appealing is
that he never makes excuses for his evil behavior or his gruesome
gourmet palate with a decided preference for "free-range rude."
Instead, he exudes a scary integrity, augmented by director
Ridley Scott's penchant for grisly, highly stylized pieces of
violence that reach operatic extremes, even though the plot is a
bit confusing.

Julianne Moore replaces Jodie Foster as the courageous,
incorruptible FBI agent Clarice Starling with whom Hannibal is
infatuated. An unrecognizable Gary Oldman plays the hideously
deformed, malevolent pedophile, Mason Verger, whose face was
devoured by dogs. Plus, there's Ray Liotta as a slimy, corrupt
Justice Department official and Giancarlo Giannini as the
avaricious Italian detective on Lechter's trail in Florence with
beautiful Francesca Neri as his wife. Frankie R. Faison reprises
Lechter's former hospital orderly, Barney. At the request of the
film-makers, I will not reveal the conclusion to this disturbing,
often sadistic, thriller except to say that screenwriters David
Mamet and Steve Zaillian contribute their own cinematic twist
which may surprise even those who have read Thomas Harris's
novel.

On the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Hannibal" is a scary,
suspenseful 7 - and this scalpel slicing is definitely not for
the squeamish.

6. CELEBRITY PROFILE
==========
JULIANNE MOORE
================================================

Julianne was born Julie Anne Smith in Fayetteville, North
Carolina, on December 3, 1960. The daughter of a psychiatric
social worker and a military judge, she spent the early years
of her life in over two dozen locations around the world with
her parents before she finally found her place at Boston
University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts
(B.F.A.) degree in acting from the School of the Performing
Arts.

In 1983, Julianne graduated from BU and moved to New York, where
she worked extensively in theater, including appearances
off-Broadway in two Caryl Churchill plays, "Serious Money" and
"Ice Cream With Hot Fudge" and as Ophelia in "Hamlet" at The
Guthrie Theatre. She then branched out into television with a
short-term part on the daytime drama "The Edge of Night," which
led in turn to a three-year stint (1985 to 1988) playing
half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina on "As the World Turns," a dual
role for which Moore earned an Outstanding Ingenue Emmy in 1988.
Her subsequent appearances have been in mostly forgettable TV-mov
ies, such as "Money, Power,Murder," "The Last to Go" and "Cast a
Deadly Spell." Julianne made her entrance into the big screen
with the 1990's "Tales from the Darkside: The Movie," where she
played the victim of a mummy. This did little to raise her
prominence in Hollywood, but she faired better in her next
project as an outspoken real estate agent in "The Hand That Rocks
the Cradle." Next she played a small, but memorable role in "The
Fugitive," with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. Since then her
roles have become better and more powerful, starring in such
films as "Body of Evidence," "Benny & Joon," "Short Cuts," "The
Father," "Vanya on 42nd Street," "Roommates," "Nine Months,"
"Assassins," and "Surviving Picasso."

Moore's seemingly inevitable rise to superstardom has been slow
in coming. But her relatively anonymous standing changed
significantly in 1997 when she starred as Jeff Goldblum's
paleontologist girlfriend, in the "Jurassic Park" sequel, "The
Lost World." Years to come would see her grabbing lead roles in
such films as, "The Myth of Fingerprints," "Boogie Nights," "The
Big Lebowski," "Psycho," "Cookie's Fortune," and her five most
recent performances listed below. You can see Julianne Moore as
agent Clarice Starling in the up-coming "Hannibal" film.
