'ALIEN 5' IN THE WORKS
London's Sunday Express reports that actress Sigourney Weaver has
agreed a 15 million pound deal to play Ripley for a fifth time.
The British paper said the film, which will be set on Earth for
the first time would be released in 2004, the 25th anniversary of
the original. Joss Wheedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
will write the script, with Weaver as Executive Producer.

TOUCHSTONE GETS 'JINN'
Touchstone Pictures has bought the feature film rights to the
coming horror novel "Jinn" by Matt Delaney. The Book as well as
the film will tell the story of a Boston homicide detective who
while investigating a series of murders comes to learn that the
killings are being committed by an ancient Arabic demon. Along
the way, the clues suggest that he himself may also be an
unknowing accomplice in the crimes.

CAMPBELL EYES 'ENOUGH'
According to Variety, Billy Campbell, the star of ABC's "Once and
Again," is in early talks with Columbia Pictures to star opposite
Jennifer Lopez in the suspense drama "Enough." Should Campbell
join the cast he would play the charming but dangerously abusive
husband from whom Lopez' character flees.

DAVIS JOINS 'BELOW'
Mathew Davis ("Tigerland") has landed a lead role in the WWII sub
thriller "Below." According to Reuters, Davis will play a young
officer on an American submarine dispatched to pick up three
survivors from a British hospital ship that was apparently sunk
by Germans. While the sub plays a cat and mouse game with a
German destroyer trying to sink it, the drama takes on an
otherworldly tone when strange things begin to occur.

STOWE EYES VIETNAM PIC
Madeleine Stowe is in negotiations to play the female lead
opposite Mel Gibson in the Randall Wallace Vietnam drama "We Were
Soldiers Once ... and Young." Gibson will play the lead role of
the battalion commander. Stowe will play his wife. Others in
talks to join the cast are Sam Elliott, who's looking to play a
master sergeant, Barry Pepper is in talks to play a journalist,
Chris Klein is in advanced talks to play a lieutenant, and
Desmond Harrington is also negotiating for a role. The story will
tell of 80 U.S. soldiers, led by Lt. Col. Hal Moore (Gibson),
that were airlifted into the Ia Drang Valley only to find
themselves surrounding by 2,000 enemy soldiers.

PARELLO TAKES 'WEREWOLF'
Variety reports that Producer-director Chuck Parello has signed a
three-picture deal with Julio Fernandez's Filmax Group. The first
film Parello will tackle is called "The Werewolf of Allariz,"
which will be based on a short story by Alfredo Conde, which in
turn, was based on the true-life story of a man who in 1850 Spain
was acquitted of a series of murders after pleading to the court
that he was a werewolf.

TED RAIMI, 'SPIDEY'S' LIZARD?
At the recent "Spider-Man" press conference Sam Raimi confirmed
that his brother, Ted Raimi was in the up-coming "Spider-Man
film, but didn't specify the role. Now according to Sony Pictures
Consumer Products via Comics Continuum, there are indications
that Ted will play the role of Burt Connors, who in the comics,
is a research bioligist that eventually becomes the Lizard.

DEL TORO IN 'HUNTED'
Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, Snatch) is close to signing on to
William Friedkin's suspense thriller "The Hunted." According to
Variety, Del Toro will take on the role of a serial killer who
kills simply to become the subject of manhunt. Tommy Lee Jones
and Connie Nielsen play FBI agents hoping to stop him.

MANSON TO PLAY WILLY WONKA? NOPE
I hadn't heard this, but apparently in a story originating from
the New York Post, shock rocker Marilyn Manson was said to be
cast in a role in the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," as well as various other
rumours. Warner Bros. wasted no time in setting the record
straight by sending out a press release, which stated --
"Contrary to a false and misleading report published in the Jan.
31 edition of the New York Post, singer Marilyn Manson has not
been cast in a role in the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Additionally, the director of
the project is not Tim Burton, as falsely stated in the Post.
Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Dave, Big) is directing the film,
currently in development at the Studio, from a screenplay by
Scott Frank (Out of Sight), which he is adapting from the beloved
Roald Dahl novel. Neither Gary Ross nor Warner Bros. Pictures
have any intention whatsoever of casting Marilyn Manson in the
revered role of 'Willy Wonka' or any other role in the film."
There ya have it.

HOLDEN JOINS 'MAJESTIC'
Laurie Holden (X-Files) has been cast as Jim Carrey's love
interest in Frank Darabont's "The Majestic." Holden will play
Adelle, a law student who just happened to date the deceased
soldier that Jim Carrey's amnesiac blacklisted writer is being
mistaken for.

SHATNER HOSTING MISS USA PAGEANT
He recently played a beauty contest host in the recent film "Miss
Congeniality," now William Shatner will be taking on the
real-life Miss USA pageant in March.

TEEN BURNED AFTER IMITATING MTV STUNT
The Associated Press reports that a 13-year-old boy was
hospitalized with second and third-degree burns after mimicking
an MTV personality who set himself on fire during a stunt show.
Jason Lind was severely burned Friday night when he and a friend
poured gasoline on his feet and legs and lit him on fire while
imitating a stunt on MTV's high-rated show "Jackass," police
said. The fire grew out of control and burned the boy's legs and
hands before it was extinguished, officials said. Lind remained
hospitalized Monday in critical condition in the burn unit of
Shriner's Hospital for Children in Boston. Lind's 14-year-old
friend was arrested Saturday and charged with reckless
endangerment.

ACCIDENT INJURES 3 ON 'GANGS' SET
Filming was suspended on the set of "Gangs of New York," the
forthcoming Leonardo DiCaprio movie, Thursday after a horse-drawn
carriage tipped over, injuring three extras. The publicist for
the 19th-century period drama, directed by Martin Scorsese and
co-starring Cameron Diaz, said it appeared the injuries were not
serious. "It was decided out of respect for them to suspend the
day's shooting," publicist Larry Kaplan said. One Italian news
agency said DiCaprio became angry at paparazzi who took pictures
of the accident and pelted them with horse manure.

"Survivor" won television's showdown of the season, beating NBC's
hit sitcom "Friends" and a special weeknight block of "Saturday
Night Live," ratings figures showed on Friday.

REGIS' CO-HOST NAMED SOON
"Live with Regis" may have found it's co-host and she's a soap
opera star. According to Reuters via the Hollywood Reporter,
Kelly Ripa of the ABC soap opera, "All My Children," is the
likely successor to sit beside Regis Philbin in his day job.

This modern fantasy stars Anthony Hopkins as William Parrish, a
