Now to Laurie -- take it away..

As usual the Golden Globes was starred studded and full of
surprises. Weeks ago after the nominations were announced, I made
a list of who I thought would win and I nailed absolutely
everything except Best Comedy/Musical Film. I haven't seen
Almost Famous so I don't know if it was deserving, but I loved
What Women Want for the prize.

I knew Tom Hanks would win Best Drama Actor with Cast Away, Julia
Roberts for Best Drama Actress with Erin Brockovich, and
Gladiator for Best Drama Film. I was surprised with Ang Lee
winning director honors for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon over
literally any of the other nominees. I think the biggest
surprise for me was George Clooney winning Best Actor in a Comedy
or Musical for O Brother Where Art Thou. He was up against some
major competition.

I also got all the TV winners right except Robert Downey, Jr.
winning for Best Supporting Actor in a TV
Series/Movie/Mini-Series. I should've known that they'd give
that to him though as a hang-in-there-we-support-you-award. I
absolutely love that The West Wing and Sex and The City are
getting the acknowledgement they rightfully deserve. The writing
on those shows, especially The West Wing, is superior to anything
else that's been on the small screen in ages.

I'd have to give Renee Zellweger a special award for not being in
the audience when she won the award for Best Actress in a
Comedy/Musical for Nurse Betty. She said in the pre-show on E!
that she wasn't prepared because she knew she wouldn't win. Not
only was she not prepared, she almost missed her award.

The best speeches of the night have to go to Sarah Jessica
Parker, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Al Pacino for the
Cecil B. DeMille award. I was also really impressed with the
star power that showed up tonight too. It's quite an
accomplishment to get Tom Cruise to present anything if he
doesn't have a film out or isn't nominated himself. I was
disappointed that Robert De Niro, Mel Gibson, and Helen Hunt were
absent, but there were so many people there already that the show
wasn't lacking at all.

The most awkward moment of the night had to be the very end with
Liz Taylor muddling through the final and most important award
for Best Drama. She had no clue what was going on and seemed
completely disoriented. I wonder if she went to any rehearsals
for the show.

And finally, the best and worst dressed. Best dressed women
would have to be Hilary Swank, Gillian Anderson, Kate Hudson, and
Angelina Jolie. Best dressed men would be Paul Hogan (scary but
true), George Clooney, and Tom Hanks. For the worst dressed
woman I'd have to say Allison Janney because her dress was so
tight through the chest that it cut into her arms. Worst dressed
male would be Bob Dylan for reasons that are too numerous to
mention. Best looking couple or date is a tie for me with Julia
Roberts/Benjamin Bratt and Jennifer Lopez/Matthew McConaughey.
Worst looking couple has to go to Kelsey Grammer and his wife.
Kelsey was wearing an orange shirt and tie with black jacket and
pants. His wife was wearing a bright pink and purple gown.
Individually they were fine, but together it was awful. Most
daring outfit definitely goes to Charlize Theron with a dress
that makes you look twice, but since she's gorgeous she can pull
it off.

Overall it was a great show with the usual twists and turns and
of course, you can't have an award show unless Joan Rivers is on
E! being her usual b---h self. Considering the great films this
year and the enormous number of high profile celebs, I'd have to
say this years Golden Globes award show was the best one in
several years. Now, bring on the Oscars!!
