ANOTHER 'BLAIR WITCH'? YEP
Despite lackluster interest in the second installemnt Artisan
Entertainment plans to go ahead with a "Blair Witch" prequel,
said Amir Malin, who heads the independent distributor that
acquired "The Blair Witch Project" at the Sundance Film Festival
in 1999. The prequel will tell the story of the early history of
the legendary "Blair Witch." Malin believes the sequel would have
done better if it was not such a rush job. Plans are to get the
prequel in theaters in 2002.

MCDERMOTT EYES 'ENOUGH'
According to Variety, Dylan McDermott may shed the good-guy image
he has honed on The Practice to play an abusive husband opposite
Jennifer Lopez in the suspense drama "Enough." The actor is in
talks to join the film as "a charming but abusive husband who
pursues Lopez to a deadly confrontation."

'PRISONER' CASTING INFO
According to TV Guide Online's FlickChick, Simon West will move
over to helm the classic '60s TV series "The Prisoner" after he
wraps up his duties with the "Tomb Raider" project. She also
notes that there has been talk that Mel Gibson would be involved,
but Gibson is booked solid with other projects for the forseeable
future.

MILLER IN TALKS FOR 'BLACK SHEEP'
Peter Darley Miller is in talks to helm Disney's Black Sheep
project starring Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins. "Black Sheep"
will tell the story streetwise guy (Chris Rock) who must step in
to take the place of his recently deceased twin brother, a CIA
agent, who died in the middle of a mission. Hopkins plays a
veteran agent who must prepare the new guy for his role.

LINDO, STATHAM JOIN 'THE ONE'
Variety reports that Delroy Lindo (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Jason
Statham (Snatch) have both signed on to Revolution Studios' "The
One," which will star Jet Li. The film will tell the story of a
man (Li) who encounters a murderous other-dimensional version of
himself crossing planes of reality to kill all his own copies.
Lindo and Statham are set to play interdimensional agents whose
task is to stop anyone from traversing dimensions, let alone
killing. James Wong will direct the film, which is scheduled for
theaters in August.

CAMERON'S LIGHTSTORM GETS 'COFFIN'
According to Variety, James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment
has nabbed an option on "The Coffin." The trade also reports that
Lightstorm is in talks with Guillermo del Toro to helm the
potential production. "Coffin" is based on a comic and tells the
story of a scientist who invents a polymer suit that is able to
hold on to the human soul after death. Eventually, juts prior to
his own death, he dons the outfit, keeping in a semi-living state
even as he attempts to reconcile things with his estranged
daughter.

'INSTINCT 2' IN TROUBLE?
The New York Post reports that the "Basic Instinct 2" project may
be in trouble. Those in charge of the project may now be looking
to release Sharon Stone. It has been previously reported that
Stone's contract has been set up in a way that would entitle her
to be paid whether the film was made or not. In addition, word
has it that Kurt Russell has passed on the project.

WILL THERE BE A 'GHOSTBUSTERS 3'?
While talking to Eon Magazine, director/producer Ivan Reitman Had
this to say regarding the project.."Danny [Aykroyd] wrote a very
good script [for a third film]. We have not been able to lick the
combination of the creative end and the deal problems of making
that film so far. So it's always sort of getting side tracked,
unfortunately. I wouldn't say it's necessarily dead, but, you
know. We're all getting older."

NO GO FOR DUCHOVNY IN 'JAY AND SILENT BOB'
As quick as it came, it went. In a recent interview with Eon
Magazine, Duchovny confirmed that he very much wanted a role in
the movie, and he and Kevin Smith had discussed the possibility,
but he put the talk to rest by saying.."I don't have time because
I have to go back to THE X-FILES in the middle of February. [We]
couldn't make the dates work out, but I'll work with Kevin some
other time. Definitely."

COLUMBIA PICTURES NABS 'SPAWN'
Columbia pictures has nabbed the feature film rights to Todd
McFarlane's "Spawn," and word has it that the film is being
pushed quickly onto the fast track. Previously, New Line Cinema
held the feature film rights to Spawn but let it languish
ultimately putting the "Spawn 2" project into turnaround with the
rights reverting back to McFarlane.

MANSON, McGOWAN BREAK ENGAGEMENT
Cross-dressing shock rocker Marilyn Manson and actress Rose
McGowan have broken off their engagement. "There is great love,
but our lifestyle difference is, unfortunately, even greater,"
McGowan said in a statement. The duo became engaged two years
ago.

O'DONNELL JOINS 'SEUSSICAL'
Rosie O'Donnell may not be Barbra Streisand - O'Donnell's own
idol - but the talk-show queen conquered the crowd Tuesday night
at the Richard Rodgers Theatre where she joined the cast of
"Seussical," Broadway's musical celebration of Dr. Seuss, for a
four-week run. O'Donnell, playing the Cat in the Hat, faced an
adoring, celebrity-sprinkled audience that included Jennifer Love
Hewitt and Reba McEntire, as well as staff from the star's daily
television show.

WOMEN ROBBED AT SIMMON'S GYM
Robbers held up five women at fitness guru Richard Simmons' gym
and escaped with jewelry, gym bags, credit cards and cash, police
said. No one was injured. The robbery happened around 8:30 p.m.
Thursday when two men - one carrying a gun - approached the lobby
of the Richard Simmons Exercise Studio, Beverly Hills Police Sgt.
John Edmundson said. The men pretended to want directions or to
have some other question to ask, Edmundson said. Once inside,
they held up the women in the lobby and made off with their
property. The suspects hadn't been found Friday morning.

HE PACKED QUITE A WHALLOP
A television crocodile hunter nearly became a crocodile snack
this week when a six-foot reptile sank its teeth into his leg.
Steve Irwin, whose "Crocodile Hunter" documentaries air in 130
countries, described the bite - which required 12 stitches - as
an "occupational hazard." A 13-year-old female salt water
crocodile, named Toolakea, bit Irwin earlier this week as he
tried to move her to another enclosure at his Australia Zoo,
about 60 miles north of Brisbane. "I threw a jaw rope over her,
jumped on her and we were lifting her over the fence, and as I
got her up to that point of no return - where I'm handing her
over to the other crew - she just went ballistic," Irwin said
Wednesday. "She did a huge, big, full-bodied shake and as she
came down she sensed my skin and just...chomp - sunk her teeth
into my leg and did a head shake which messed it up a little,"
Irwin explained. A crew making a behind-the-scenes documentary
about Australia Zoo filmed the attack. It was not immediately
clear if the footage would appear in a "Crocodile Hunter" show.

MARILYN'S WHITE DRESS TO BE AUCTIONED
The sexy white gown Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang "Happy
Birthday" to John F. Kennedy is going on the auction block. Also
to be sold is a typewritten letter from the White House thanking
the actress for agreeing to appear at JFK's 45th birthday party
in 1962. The dress is expected to fetch as much as $30,000 during
an Internet auction on Sothebys.com that runs from Feb. 8 to
March 1, the New York Post reported Sunday.

TNT GRABS 'BROCKOVICH'
TNT has ponied up $7 million for cable rights to Erin Brockovich.
The two-year deal allows the network to begin airing the film
beginning in November 2005. Last year, NBC nabbed broadcast
rights to Brockovich; the first airing is slated for November
2002.

MAHER APOLOGIZES
For the first time ever, Bill Maher, host of ABC's Politically
Incorrect, has apologized for one of his on-air rants. On last
Thursday's episode, Maher compared retarded children to dogs,
saying, "They're sweet. They're kind. But they don't mentally
advance at all." ABC received numerous complaints, prompting
Maher to tell The New York Times, "I make no excuses, I was
wrong."
