From what I've heard, it is an apprentice kinda
thing. You don't really go to film school with the goal
of becoming a negative cutter, though you can get
some experience by cutting short films there. I hope
that students are still learning about this... I know
that USC has gone "all DV," but the students should
still have the experience of working with, and yes,
even cutting film.
