********thanks so much Lennon for letting us know about the chat this past Monday Nov 24 on Blog Talk Radio. I was able to listen live and was got a series of questions answered that I very much wanted to pose to Maureen. I was lucky enough to not only get one question answered, but three at different times throughout the show. It was certainly great to have Maureen respond enthusiastically to subjects on which I very much wanted to hear her thoughts on.

There's an archive of the show on the Blog Talk Radio site if anyone who missed the show wants to hear it.

I too found that terribly odd and if I were Michael Cummings,
it would be very dissappointing and sad to me.

IF ..... IF Maureen had more confidence in herself, things
may have turned out differently for her.

What surprised me most was that she didn't finish High school.

It is nice to finally hear the whole story behind her life. I am
very happy that she has found peace now.

Her brother Kevin, seems like a real nut case (not Maureen)

Eve, well,..............never cared much for the character Jan
or the actress EVE.

Maureen is a beautiful person and very brave to come out with
this heartfelt book. I wonder who the ghostwriter was and how
often they got together to work on this?

I read the book and really appreciated the honesty!! This book will
change lives just because of the honesty!

I had the privilege of sitting in first class with Ms. McCormick
recently on my flight from Nashville to Dallas. Her sweetness and
kindness was just amazing! A truly amazing woman and an example to
all of us on how someone can live through the fame and pain, to
emerge as a real person with a great heart!

I got the opportunity to speak a few words and she was just amazing!
Made my day. When i was a kid and a fan of the show, I had the
typical boyhood crush (like all of my friends) on Marcia Brady..
After reading the book and meeting her in person last week, I have to
say the real person Maureen McCormick is far more wonderful than the
character she played! Thanks for being a great example of humanity!!

Keep up the good work! Your messages are important and I am sure that
you will help a lot of people!

God Bless!

Maureen, I hope you are reading this as well. I recently finished
reading your book, and as a long time fan of your show...I was,at
times, amused by the behind the scenes activities.

What struck me was when you wrote that for all the love you received
for "being" Marcia, you didn't feel the same love for yourself....I can
relate to that in some ways, and given what you shared about your real
family...I totally understood where you were coming from. But through
all your trials and tribulations, you emerged as a survivior and not a
victim.

Thank you for taking the time to inspire so many people who can relate
to what you've been through....It was very encouraging, and I am glad
that you found happiness through your family, at last.

I hope you read this Maureen. I just want to Thank You for writing

Ken,

The book is titled Here's The Story: Surviving Marcia Brady And Finding
My True Voice. It's available in hardcover, as well as a separate
audiobook (5 CD's, 6 hours of audio) from Harper Collins Publishers.
Retail is about $27 for the book, around $30 for the CD audiobook.

singing voice. At the time, I thought she was the most beautiful
girl I'd ever seen. I still think that way.

extremely remote possibility, being that I lived in Canada, for
starters, and even if I lived in Southern California, how could I
ever wind up anywhere for any event in which I could hope to meet up
with her? As a self-conscious young teenager, it bothered me that I
was 3 years younger than Maureen (so silly, looking back) for I
thought why would she give me any time of day if I ever saw her? (I
felt a little like Greg in that second season episode, as a junior
high school student trying to get the attention of a pretty senior
and fumbling it all up.)

this could ever happen. This was a wish and a dream first planted in
young adolescence, and kept subtly in the heart's quiet places

I knew I was going to go to one of those cities for the sole purpose
of meeting Maureen, and to meet Maureen who played Marcia, and to
reconnect with my youth. I wanted to know what all this would feel
like. Meeting her though wasn't as good as I thought it would be in
1974-75.

didn't get much sleep at all the entire 2 days, and was thinking,
planning, and reviewing what I'd written I was going to say to
Maureen in the few minutes I was going to get. I was quite nervous
about it, knowing I'd only get a short time, and wanted to make it
count. And I didn't want to fill the time with the "I watched you as
a teenager / I love your acting and the Bunch" predictable comments
she's heard a jazillion times. I wanted to be able to say things
that hopefully had some meaning for us both, and to be sure I wasn't
fawning all over her.
>
> In the times I have occasionally met celebrities, I've found it
difficult to think of what to say that has some meaning for me,
which would also hopefully mean something or be interesting to them.
After hearing the Today Show interview on NBC a few days before, it
was extremely moving to hear Maureen talk about all the heart-
wearing things in her life. Since I generally follow news about her,
I already knew there were things that sharply contrasted the
wholesome, quickly solved crisis Brady format, but hearing the
interview and just reading the book blurb reinforced Maureen's life
story such that it impacted me more than previously. It was then
that I got an even more clearer awareness that you really have to
begin to separate Maureen and Marcia.
>
> I was second in line so had plenty of time to get my thoughts in
order and my camera ready for when she entered. It was still 4 hours
away. I was beginning to feel that we would all be whisked through
there quickly, with little or no opportunity to say anything to her,
get any picture taken with her, or any pictures or other things
signed, since the bookstore handed out a sheet with a littany of
rules stating all this was disallowed. It also stated there would be
no personalized signings.
>
> Fortunately, the only thing that ended up being disallowed was the
signing of any items other than her book. It seems the bookstore had
its policy, but Maureen's entourage had its own. I'd brought other
things for her to sign, but it was understandable that this would
delay the line, and so it was ok with me. Besides, I didn't want to
take up time with this, when I could be chatting with her. I was
more interested in establishing a brief connection with her than
getting a signature on additional items.
>
> I was delighted the emcee announced that Maureen welcomed the fans
posing with her for pictures. This was what I wanted most. We were
asked to put a post-it note on the inside of the book with our name,
so Maureen would quickly know how to personalize it. I was caught a
bit off guard in the small commotion when I heard her say, "are you
Murray?", and it didn't take long to feel almost immediately
comfortable because of how friendly, at ease and open she was. I
told her I'd flown in from Canada today so I could meet her, and
that after 35 years, it finally happened. She said that was so nice,
quite sincerely, seemed to appreciate it and thanked me.

> Having thought it over a long time, I knew what it was that I had
to tell her. As she signed, I told her I felt I had to thank her for
writing the book. She asked me why, interest piqued. I said it was
because the experiences she described had a general similiarity to
my own while growing up - anxiety, depression, addiction and family
dysfunction issues. I said that her making an account of these
experiences served to resonate with me, as did the John scripture
reference at the front of the book.
>
> It was clear to me that she wanted to tell the truth to herself,
and to anyone wanting to read this book, about what her life has
been. And that is what had the potential to set herself free, like
the John scripture said about the truth setting oneself free. I
tried to communicate this as best as I could, that this in essence
was what it was all about - the truth setting you free. She seemed
to understand and agree with my somewhat clumsy attempt to put this
into words.

> I also told her that I thought the fans, "who know you as 'you
know who', need to know who YOU are." As she responded affirmingly
to that, her immediate presence served to solidify in my own
awareness that there is a Maureen with imperfections and a complex
set of life circumstances, there is a near-perfect fictional TV
character Marcia, and there is a Maureen who played that character.
As I shook her hand and said it was so nice to meet her, she warmly
and sincerely returned the sentiment, and seemed to appreciate my
words and the effort I made to come.

point in her career, and that I wished she'd done more of it, as
well as more dramatic acting. But I didn't really want to impose any
more conversation, and with the most important thing said, I thought
I'd just let it linger

stage area to greet the handicapped and sign for them - it was
obvious they were special to her. I guestimate the total attendance
was about 200 or so, and I observed about 5-10 handicapped people
present. I stayed for the entire 2 hours, getting an incredibly
large number of pictures (all for my personal album, none for Ebay).
I was very disappointed that my posed picture with Maureen did not
turn out very well, despite two tries.

have things quite together yet, and someone else eventually took
over. There was no way I was going to leave without a good picture,
if I could do anything about it. I was at least going to ask for a
retake, so once the line was almost finished, I explained the
situation to Maureen's handler, who was most understanding and told
me that they wanted people to be happy. He told me thanks for
waiting until the end, and said he would take the picture himself.

to pose with Maureen again. I apologized to her, saying the picture
just didn't work out, but she was gracious and said it was all ok,
and the picture was wonderful. I was second in line to see her, was
the very last, then I thanked her for coming.

of meeting her in person, and hearing some of her story through that
book and the interviews made her more vibrant and alive than she
ever could be in any acting role, in my mind.

That's GREAT, Murray. You can clearly see that in each picture Maureen really took the time--you're SITTING next to her, not standing. She's such a special woman.

Since a few people are sending in their pix with Maureen, I thought I'd send mine as well. This is from the Mall of America in Minneapolis, October 17.

Hi there! Congrats on meeting Maureen.

I don't remember what which interview I saw (Good Morning America, maybe? or a local Philly am show)--They interviewed Barry, as a little, as well. Maureen and Barry acknowledged that they had their young 'crush', and his 'fling' with Florence. That they were very isolated from regular lives/schedules so much. Somewhere along the line she just said that many years ago, and when she was still very confused and INSECURE, she jokingly blurted out, '...yeah, and I kissed Eve, too..' (something to that affect). It was just a JOKE, but Eve apparently never got over it. Hey, you can apologize so many times, but at some point one has to MOVE ON and to stay healthy. We don't know what Eve has been through and maybe she doesn't feel like or isn't ready to go public. Maybe her own family was too adversely affected by the public comment and she's still dealing with those issues. It would be so nice to see them reconcile though--have a feeling this book may very well 'eat at Eve's conscience' to finally 'let it go'!

Hi again! after I wrote about noticing Eve's name not in the credits, I then
saw Maureen's appearance on Howard Stern (It's on YouTube, but warning if you
watch it ****it's raunchy**** Adults only, please!

She talks about Eve and her not speaking anymore. But she does talk a lot about
Eve in the book, so I don't know what to think.
