Film and Pop Culture Items at Cryptic ConFusion Next Week
There are panel items involving the film industry, which everyone knows is
looking to make a large footprint here in Michigan thanks to recent
independent film efforts like IN ZERO and state incentives for bigger-budget
productions.
At the convention next week Confusion hope to roll out several topics which
relate to this new industry, which looks to be a potential lifeline for
struggling cities here in Michigan. Here's a few:
*There will be a panel on visual effects and film going by the charmingly
verbose title of "The visual effects of Prince Caspian and other films and
their impact of Science Fiction in film." Local industry artist TOM DOW
will be
talking about P.C. and other films.
*Popular Culture: John Carpenter - Maverick director/composer John
Carpenter's works - insights, documentary and discussion about his original
cinematic works from DARK STAR to THE THING, and the staggering technical
accomplishments possible with the smallest budget.
*Popular Culture: Stanley Kubrick - Prolific to perfectionist, Enigmatic to
paranoid? - stuff you might not know about the man who brought us brilliant
film adaptations 2001, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, FULL METAL JACKET and DR
STRANGELOVE.
As usual, ConFusion is a gathering of people who celebrate all SF/Fantasy
paths which sprang from original literature through the ages. I hope
adding a little movie content will take full advantage of what we'll see in
this state for years to come, without taking away the enthusiasm we share
for the written works!
