Howdy folks. Just posting my inventory in case people finding themselves in need...
Here at Sanctuary Labs we (meaning I) have just finished replacing our trio of Celeron iPaqs (aka the RenderFarm) with a single Pentium3/ server with a 30G RID drive for temp files. After finding that one machine can do the work of three in less than one fifth the time and use less power, I have a positive outlook on being able to get nifty video effects online realsoonnow.
The anchor machine is a Vaio P4 with .5G of RAM and XPHome, feeding my projector. It can play compressed AVI without hiccups and has the DVD burner. Also on the network is the touch-screen NCR P3 with WinMe and paint software, an old copy of Morph Studio, Pinnacle Studio 9 with a few extra gubbins, a very old version of Hash Animation Master for Windows, a bunch of converters to export AVI video to the Pinnacle Sequencer, and a mishmash of audio sequencer softwares from Radio Free Fandom. I should be able to offer AVI, MP4 and FLV upload to YouTube once I have things worthy of same... there's a strong temptation to do a cheesy music video but I'm saving myself for something more original.
Later on I'll be measuring the basement for the green backdrops. I'm thinking of pushing the limits of a 10x10 studio space but for now I'm happy I can do any kind of processing at all without blowing up my electrical bill. Money's been tight for a couple of years so I'm not ashamed about using all this old crap...!
Anybody need three iPaqs?
