I'm going to the 7:45 showing of Danger! Diabolik tonight, Tuesday.
The movie features a score by Ennio Morricone, was parodied in the
final episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and inspired a Beastie
Boys video. It's also based on a wonderful Italian comic book
(fumetti) by the same name.
Any and all are welcome to join me.
A friend and I went to see Ultraviolet last night, and despite the Times's ultralazy pan -- http://movies2.nytimes.com/2006/03/04/movies/04ultr.html -- the movie is wonderful: Wonderfully horrible. Throughout the movie, multiple characters voice the same squib of dialogue: "What am I doing?" And that's what you're sure to ask yourself at least once while watching this.
But if you go in expecting little and ready to revel in stilted acting, incomplete character development, heavy-handed voiceover exposition -- and the occasional bit of brilliant CGI action -- it should all become clear. That said, the fight scenes, while initially visually interesting, wane in interest as the movie progresses. OK, I get it: Vi spins around, and the baddies fall down.
I'm surprised this movie exists. As are many people: The theater was near-empty on the Saturday of opening weekend. As my friend said, this'll do well on DVD, in rental, and overseas. I still think it's worth seeing on the big screen.
This coming weekend: Friday or Saturday; let me know if you have a preference. The Hills Have Eyes.
Awesome double feature tonight. If you have a chance, you can't beat
2-3 movies for $10 a pop. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday billings are
hella relavant.

Tomorrow, I'm considering catching a double feature of "Frankenstein"
and "The Mask of Fu Manchu." Perhaps the 7 p.m. screening of the former
and the 8:30 screening of the latter.
Tickets reportedly run $10. Any and all are welcome to join me.
OK. I'm not going to go to this movie. I'm going to do something else.
You're welcome to do something else, too! ^_^

Thanks to everyone who came out for the First Occasional Media Diet Movie Night! And I do mean every _one_ of you: me.
I learned about a fatal flaw in my plan last night. Not requesting RSVPs, having met the people who emailed me to saying they couldn't come, and not knowing those who didn't say one way or the other, I didn't know who to look for outside the theater. So any one of the
five honorary members I installed last night -- without their knowledge; everyone in the theater is now an honorary member of the club regardless of whether they're aware -- could have been any one of you.
So here's another idea.

Regardelss of whether others are interested in lingering longer after
the movie, it's been too long since I've seen you, and I'd totally be
open to a quick drink and catch up.

You're welcome to come to the movie and meet new people! Looking
forward to seeing you if you can make it.
Heath
I know it says that this group is for people who know Heath Row and I
don't know
you but I
do know a friend of yours (Harper Reed) Does that count? haha. I would
love to
be in your group
but I guess I already am. I just don't want to be an outcast!
Hey Heath!
I got free tix from school to see phillip glass that same night, also
at BAM. Maybe we can meet up afterwards?

Thanks for signing up for my silly little list! The purpose of this
organized approach to fun is two fold: (1) I want to go see more movies
in the theater more often and (2) I want to see movies with friends.
You are some of my friends. Now, onto the movies!
One friend o' mine, let's call her, say, Megan, has suggested we see
Everything Is Illuminated next week. I propose Thursday. Everything Is
Illuminated is showing Thursday, Oct. 6, at the BAM Rose Cinemas in Brooklyn --
30 Lafayette Avenue at Flatbush Avenue (Subway: M, N, R, W to Pacific
St; Q, 1, 2, 4, 5 to Atlantic Avenue) -- at 7:10 and 9:30 p.m. I could
make the 7:10, just.
Why I want to see Everything Is Illuminated:
* Jonathan Safran Zoer's book -- http://www.jonathansafranfoerbooks.com/ -- is amazing. Amazing.
* The film costars one Eugene Hutz --
http://www.bruner.net/blog/archives/015317.shtml -- frontman for the
gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello and a one-time stalwart of the
Burlington, Vermont, indie scene.
* The film also costars Elijah Wood, who, well, appears to be
attempting to shrug off the Frodo mantle by starring in movies that,
IMO, don't seem to fit him entirely well. We've got this, and then
we've got Green Street Hooligans --
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/344418p-293854c.html .
Growing pains, perhaps?
So, how should this work? No real need to RSVP, I don't think. Let's
just aim to meet at the theater -- lobbyish -- about 10 to 7. Bring
friends, multiples, even.
You like action movies; I like romantic comedies,
