A new movie starring Harry Potter star Alan Rickman, The Search for
John Gissing, will be screened on Friday at the Westwood Film
Festival.
The Search for John Gissing is enjoyable fish-out-of-water fluff --
an Ugly Americans-abroad farce peppered with caustic riffs on the
dehumanizing effects of contemporary corporate culture. Shrewdly cast
as the fussy but sly Gissing, Alana Rickman isn't really the villain
here (despite being frequently typecast as such), but rather a wily
self-preservationist with a devilish streak.
Alan Rickman as John Gissing
Variety calls The Search for John Gissing a refreshing antidote to
gross out comedies... a very funny film, sometimes uproariously so...
executed with deft comic timing and plentiful guffaws... a throwback
to the mod English comedies of the 1960's and 70's.
The film will be shown on Friday, September 30 at 7:30pm at the
Majestic Crest Theater in Westwood. The film's director, Mike Binder,
will be on hand at the screening for a Q&A.
In addition, there is currently a petition to get this film released
to the general public. You can see the petition here.
Tickets for this screening are $10.00. The Majestic Crest Theater is
located at 1262 Westwood Blvd., and their phone number is 310-470-
6008.
