Why a SAG dues increase is a bad idea...   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #28 of 1986 |
1) SAG is a being run by the studios as a company dominated union. A
studio installed faction with tremendous conflicts of interests and
refusal to negotiate contracts in good faith has sold the rank and
file down the river e.g. refusal to negotiate DVD residuals.

2) An effective residuals monitoring system has not been up and
running even though it is viable and necessary, regardless of excuses
made to the contrary.

3) Section 47 not enforced which stipulates free access for actors to
CDs.

4) SAG voucher system still not abolished even though members have
complained for years about this corrupted form of labor racketeering.

5) No casting resource center and/or office for casting SAG
background/standins, again, even though SAG officials have received
constant grievances about private casting companies extorting bribes
and calling service fees from working actors.

6) Management controlled SAG officials, their syncophants and shills
who block the efforts of well meaning SAG officials and rank and file
members to institute major, necessary reforms to benefit all members.

7) A corrupted, studio dominated SAG culture that neglects the
basic purpose of a union to negotiate good contracts and vigorously
ensure companies don't cheat on them. There is rampant cheating on
contracts that is ignored by the company installed "leadership"
clique.

Our SAG dues money being systematically channelled into overpaid
execs income, wasteful merger attempts, while basic services to
members are ignored.

9) No plan or action to win a contract to ensure SAG working actors
receive a fair share of the DVD and emerging internet on demand
market.

10) This is why a dues increase is a big mistake until major changes
take place and members have control of their union again.
