Hi Gang!

Just a reminder to let you all know that my books are all now available at
Amazon and
Barnes and Noble. Remember, Christmas isn't too far away...scary thought, huh?!

Now available - "Children of Hollywood: Accounts of growing up the sons and
daughters
of the stars." - A chapter by chapter look at the children of those classic
Hollywood stars
we're all crazy about. The children and grandchildren of Bing Crosby, John
Gilbert,Tyrone
Power, Eddie Cantor, Jerry Lewis, Harold Lloyd, Harry Langdon, all three Marx
Bros., Larry
Fine of The Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello (both daughters)W.C. Fields,
etc., are all
featured and they all talk about what it was like having these people in their
lives as
parents and grandparents. Many of the photos are candids, straight from their
family
albums.

Now available - "Gene Tierney: A Biography" - The first bio since her death,
this book
covers the roller coaster life of one of Hollywood's most tragic stars. From the
tragic birth
of her retarded daughter to her own battle with mental illness, the book covers
her life and
career and features over 100 photos, both on and off the screen. Gene's
daughter,
Christina, wrote a touching foreword. A movie based on this book is currently
being talked
about. Very exciting!

Now available - "Joan Crawford: Her Life In Letters" - This one covers the
somewhat
obsessive letter writing of Joan Crawford. With over 300 letters to fans,
friends and her
peers, this book gives the reader a diary timeline into the private world of one
of
Hollywood's most loved stars. The photos are candid, most never published until
now and
are all themed around Joan Crawford, her fans, her letters, etc. - Foreword is
written by
her grandson, Casey Lalonde.

Now available for pre order - Marjorie Main: The Life and Films of Hollywood's
'Ma Kettle.'
- This, the first ever biography on Marjorie Main will be available in late
December.

Thanks for taking the time to read this message and if you buy decide to buy any
one of
my books, thanks so much for your support!

Best wishes -

Suffice to say, Michelle, Marjorie lives up to her image of being a real
character both on and off stage!! Somehow I knew she wouldn't disappoint us
there. I'm looking forward to what I'm sure will be a most fascinating read.

Thanks to Pam and Liz for those encouraging words.

The Ma and Pa Kettle DVD sets sold well, so I'm certainly hoping the
book does too. I would have liked McFarland to price the book lower but
their pricing is out of the author's control. I have no say in that
matter. That's why I figured I'd let everyone know about the current
Barnes and Noble discounted price. It's quite a saving and well worth
ordering it in advance to pay a little less.

Marjorie was certainly not your typical Hollywood actress, in many
ways. Glamor aside, she hated attending studio arranged promos (yet she
still did it) and would skip the after parties in favor of eating alone
at her favorite diner near her house.

She was extremely private, therefore, even when she was at the height
of her popularity, not a lot was written about her. Finding info,
articles, clipping, etc., was a real chore. I was lucky enough to find
a mini gold mine of personal correspondence written to Marjorie from
her husband over a couple of years. I think everyone will find the
letters from her husband, Dr. Krebs, very, very interesting.

Unfortunately, Marjorie's letters to him are lost but you certainly get
a sense of their relationship through his words. He was a prolific
writer and always seemed to be apologizing to Marjorie for one thing or
the other. Boy, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for a
couple of nights during their marriage. A very strange relationship
indeed!

Aside from the biography portion, there's a nice collection of photos
(from on and off screen) throughout the book too. A complete
filmography with interesting trivia on the productions and stars of
each film, over eighty films in all, rounds it out.

One thing I became aware of when writing this book, whether it be on or
off the screen, Marjorie Main was a real character!

Hi Michelle,

Marjorie must have had a very interesting life. It seems like she was one of the few classic stars who was willing to talk about her sexuality. The only other stars from that era who did that were Patsy Kelly and Cesar Romero.

Hi Liz -

Yeah, The Sewing Circle has a lot of Hollywood Babylon type gossip but
it does also have some truth to it too. Marjorie and Spring DID have a
long term relationship. They even lived together for some time in later
years. Of course, back in those times the public would look upon it as
just two ladies living together and it was innocent enough. I don't
know if the public was that naive back then...or they just chose not to
see the truth.

Marjorie admitted to a few "special women in her life," but they
remained nameless. Spring was really the only woman that she admitted
to "being with." Both actresses played the mother type roles on screen

Hope this helps!

I was curious if Michelle uncovered anything about their relationship in her research for the book???

Hi Michelle,

Congratulations on the release of the new book. I just pre-ordered my copy from Amazon :-) By the way if anyone is hesitant about pre-ordering don't be - Amazon is really great about shipping things as soon as they have it in stock and they keep you informed about your order status by E-mail.

I also added a link to order the book on my homepage so you can go to  http://www.classicactresses.com and order it right from there. I hope it's a big success!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone!

I'd like to ask a favor of you all. My second book, "Children of
Hollywood" is scheduled for
release in May of 2005. Amazon.com are now taking pre orders and
three days ago, the
book was ranked at 2,400,345. Not great...
Miraculously, today the book is ranked at 102,000. What a jump! - I
expect (or I hope!)
that most of you here will buy a copy since the book deals with the
A-list actors (their
children) of yesteryear that we all know and love.
If as many of you can buy a copy of "Children of Hollywood" on
www.amazon.com within
the next day or two, in a short space of time (that's the key), I'd
like to see how these sales
will affect the current ranking.
Let me know if you order a copy. By the way, your credit card WILL
NOT be charged until
the item is ready to be shipped.

Thanks all - Best always -

I, and I'm sure all the others would agree with you. The Kettle films
are one of the few series that you'll always find something new to
laugh at, even on repeated viewings. There's a refreshing innocence
about them and Marjorie Main and Percy KIlbride had amazing chemistry.
I guess that chemistry was proven as the replacement Pa's ended up
rounding out the series with less favorable reviews than the earlier
Kilbride versions.

The only positive thing about winter looming is the fact that I now
have the Kettle DVD sets, and, along with my favorite blanket, cosy
slippers and warm cup of cocoa, I can keep warm and laugh till my
heart's content!

Long live the Kettle's!

Michelle

Well, everyone, I'm pleased to inform all you diehard Kettle fans that my book,
"Marjorie
and Ma: the Life Story of Marjorie Main," will be released around this time next
year.
McFarland publishing are very interested and we're currently settling a few
editorial bits
and pieces before signing a contract.

The book will have Marjorie's complete life story, together with a filmography
of her 80+
films and a bundle of photographs to boot. I was very surprised to learn that no
one had
taken on Marjorie's life story before now, and the end result of my research has
uncovered
much of the mystery that surrounded Marjorie's life and career. Her marriage to
Dr. Krebs
was unconventional, to say the least, and the rare letters and correspondence
between
them will be included in a chapter entitled, "Dr. and Mrs. Krebs."

Together with the filmography there are film facts and behind the scenes
information
relating to each particular film, so as not to make the filmography boring. I've
always
found that I've often skipped filmographies in books, just because they're so
drab and
technical. The idea to add this behind the scenes gossip, trivia, etc., is my
way of making
you, as the reader, want to read it. Clever, huh?

Well, that's it for now, folks! - I'll keep you all updated as to the progress
of the book as it
becomes available.

Best always ~
Michelle

Let's all keep our finger's crossed for volume three. I can not
believe they will not release them all. They could round out the set
with Fuedin Fussen and Fighten, a film that I have alway's wanted to
see but never have. It stars Marjorie Main Percy Kilbride and Donald
O conner. Also I have always wanted to see Ricochet Romance stars
Marjorie with Chill Wills the film was advertised as that "Ma Kettle

films? and if so how were they? Robert

Hi Robert -

Welcome to the group! - It's nice to have people involved who exude
such enthusiasm. I've had the Kettles on DVD since they came out, and
like you, have enjoyed them since childhood.

You know, there's been no mention of the last couple of films in the
series being released as a volume three DVD set. Surely Universal
aren't ending it at two volumes when there's more Kettle films to be
had. I have to admit, the last of the films weren't their best, but
alas, they exist and I would like to have the complete series.

If anyone knows of a release date for volume three, please, let me know
~

Michelle
