Thanks Dave for the kind words. There will be more screenings/concerts coming up. Folks have already come forward to lead the charge for NoVa and Richmond, as well as Philly, among other places. Again, please let Deke or I know if you're interested in hosting or helping to organize a Live from the Hook screening/concert on your home turf.
As for DVDs, there will be an announcement sometime next week.

I had forgotten Chuck's hairdo of that post Corky era, the Ricco days. thanks for the post, the boys are sounding pretty good there. The Showing/concert was incredible, many thanks to all involved. Kirby still knows how to throw a party. This edition of THE movie is wonderful, seems like the guys got all the funny in, liked the way it flowed. Good job. Yes indeed we need some more "Live..from" get togethers for veiwing/rocking. The bands all sounded so good Saturday it's hard to believe they don't play together all the time. loved seeing all the old friends that made it in, as well as local hermits that made it out. Well done, lots of fun, thanks much. Now - where did you say we can order the DVD or can it be purchased locally? Got mine BUT need to tell other folks other than "come over and watch it". I'll keep an eye out for footage of
what was being shot Saturday, too, as some great noise happened and it's fun to watch everyone playing so well together. Special thanks to those posting photos here, I knew I'd want pictures, but also knew I couldn't hassle keeping track of my camera with all that fun going on so many bleesing for the shots. Dave

So I was perusing YouTube and found these performances of Skip from 1988, someone from Charlotte,North Carolina videotaped this with a hand held camera.
The footage is a little shaky, the audio pretty good.
Except for the film, this is as close to "vintage Skip" as one is likely to get, with the exception that Corky is not playing drums.
A lot of your favorites here, about 15 songs
Hopefully it will stay up for a while, the last link I posted to a Skip performance was taken down.
OMG, you just caused a synapse to fire! In the winter of '81-'82, I
walked into the side door of Desperados one night when Skip was
playing. This placed me in the barroom, rather than the music room.
Serendipitously, Bo had just stepped off stage into that side room,
setting off on one of his fabled (and now wireless) guitar walks. He
spotted me and handed me the guitar. I did my best to replicate what
he'd been playing, likely a pathetic attempt, and wandered into the
rear of the music room and up on stage. That was one of maybe three
times that I've played with Skip in 30 plus years, and by far the
most fun, especially because Charlie, Danny and Corky were as
surprised as anyone.

this is no doubt more accurate than my recollection, my only other thought that it must have happened more than once, because I remember being in Desperados for the adventure, and I would not have been there in 1979. more like 1981.
of course, memory after thirty years -- she's not so good. there have been studies where people have sworn to remember something, when they weren't there and merely were told about it. so, who knows?
Now don't make me pull this car over, you kids!
The episode referred to in this string occurred in the winter of '79,
and the principals were George Thorogood and the Nighthawks' Jim
Thackery. Thorogood at the Cellar Door (NE corner of 34th and M) the
Hawks at Desperados (south side of M, just east of 34th. Song in
question was Elmore James's "Madison Blues," a slide guitar number
played in open E tuning. Jim played a red '67 Gibson Flying V,
Thorogood a Gibson hollow body, sunburst, perhaps an ES-135, of
unknown (at least to me) provenance.
By prior arrangement, both bands started the song at the stroke of
midnight. The two players met in the middle of M St., swapped cords
(cords, mind you, as wireless rigs weren't widely available at the
time) and then burst in to gobsmacked and delighted audiences in
their respective clubs. The whole charade was remarkably well
executed, especially given the crude technology. Bo, to my
knowledge, did not post that night. Too bad, because that really
would have been something.
The Post covered the episode the next day on the cover of Style, I
believe, though it might even have been a slow enough news day to
have made the front, below the fold. I searched its archives and
could find only a recent reference, not the original coverage. (The
NY Times has archived everything back to 1851, just another reason
that the Post SUCKS, as if we needed one.)
As a postscript, Buzz White, the Allstars manager at the time,
submitted a bogus press release a few weeks later to the now long-
defunct DC arts paper, the Unicorn Times, claiming that Thackery and
I had pulled of a similar stunt in NYC, starting from clubs in the
Upper West Side and the Village, respectively, hopping the 7th Avenue
Local and pulling off the switch at Times Square. The paper printed
the item (they knew it was BS). The Hawks, uncharacteristically,
were not amused.
Now put down that racing form and get back to work. Andy, there's a
fire on the F line at Nostrand Ave., so take the bus.

Where are the other pics? Mr. Grafmuller? Mr. Simmons?
Anyone can post; just go to photos and add an album. Piece of cake.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your impressions of the event.
If/when there is a point of sale for DVDs please let me know!
I can verify the Crash Ola.
I actually went to the site yesterday morning and got the same message
about exceeding the bandwidth limit, I thought it was highly unlikely
that so much traffic would be directed to the(Live From The Hook) site
on a weekday morning, and was slightly incredulous.
Bo Randall is really a trooper, I hope he is not seriously ill, and he
is definitely one of the best guitar players and showman I have had
the privilege to see.
(I once heard a rumor that Bo(with Skip) and George Thorogood were
playing in DC at clubs across the street from each other and met in
the middle at the street median..never knew if this was true but
extremely possible!)
Best wishes to all members of all the bands keeping the tradition of
playing great music live.

Our webhost says we're his first site that managed to exceed the

So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Thanks Thom.
I'm not sure on the crowd. My guess was 1500 but have no degree in
crowd-estimology. When Deke is back online next week we can pose the
question to him.
Danny was full of jokes this weekend. Holy crap; really full of them.
Here's one of the better merely R-rated ones:

Guy goes to see his proctologist.
Proctologist is examining down there, seems a little concerned, says:
"Uhhhm, do you realize that you have a lettuce leaf hanging out of

Guy says, "Oh, that's just the tip of the iceberg!"

It was great seeing you this weekend. Cloning would have definitely
helped. Felt like I got to see some folks only for a few minutes here
and there, given all that was going on.
We did film the show. At some point in the future, we'll begin to
release various other live performance or "best of" DVDs and CDs.
First step is the film itself though. So we'll be focused on selling
those DVDs for now.
Between this board and the website, we'll have info on when other
releases become available.

Andy,
What a great time on Sat. I wish I could have cloned myself, so I
could have spent time with all the friends who were there. It is
amazing that Bo played so well despite being sick. I heard several
people, who had not seen Skip, comment on what a great guitarist Bo
was; little did they know... The music was awesome and the stage crew
did a super job of staying on schedule over a 6 hr. period. Could any
other small city have supported a show like this? What other town
under 50,000 has Willie Nelson and CSN the same week? Only the Hook!
Were you taping the show? Will there be a Cd or DVD available? I
bought 4 of the movie DVDs and it mentioned that some shows from the
past will be available. Any idea when? I lok forward to more great
times and great music!

quick reply to sam et. al.,
Without naming particular bands or individuals, I can tell you that the display
of talent on Saturday was tremendous, a great day to throw your worries out the
window. You know all the players and they dialed it in like they were 20 years
old again. Generally flawless and exceptionally tight. The sound was well
balanced in a 'tough room". It was great to see so many musicians and friends
come together. Anyone that couldn't attend this one, keep your eyes peeled for
the next chance.
The documentary has been edited and greatly improved. Very entertaining and of
course, a good story line we can all relate to. As I understand from Deke, the
DVD ought to be available to order on line this fall, we can look forward to
more specifics later, but as I told someone on saturday, there will be one under
every Christmas tree this year. I also got a kick out of some of the T-shirts,
new and old reproductions: capt. Tunes, Casuals, etc. and of course, "Boogie at
Midlife".
No outlandish outstanding foolish things to pass on. No police brawls or mud
slides that I know of, but please share if you have any good stories(besides Bo
crawling in and out of a coffin to play).
cheers, JDSJr

Thanks to everyone who came and laughed and danced and said nice things about
the film.
How did the Casuals play such a tight set with so little practice time?
How great did Bo sound - even though he was sick as a dog and a half step from
the
emergency room?
How cute was Charlotte Beirne at the piano with Danny and up front with the
crowd?
How amazing was it to see so many old friends and dance like decades had melted
away?
We'll be doing more of these events going forward; taking the film and a band or
two to
venues or private parties in the area.
If you're interested in hosting a Live from the Hook party, or helping to
organize an event at
another venue in your town, please let us know.
Oh, and Deke and Bob - enjoy the beach.
Andy
If anyone has anything at all to share..verbal impressions, photos, it
would be greatly appreciated by people who couldn't make it!
Thanks so much !

I've always admired Hemingway's spare style..."just the facts, ma'am". In other words, I am waaay too busy to use multisyllabic words or string together two clauses in the same sentence. Right about now I'm just hoping to achieve simple sentences without drooling. Wish me luck--I'll need it--interviews with Bob & Charlie tomorrow:
8:00 AM 1260 Joe Thomas
8:40 FM 106.1 "The Corner" with Tad Abbey
9:00 FM Z95.1 Jay Lopez
and Thursday:
9AM WNRN
then filming for "Good Morning Charlottesville" (to Run on Friday on WCAV local CBS affiliate)
9PM WTJU
Did anybody catch us on 3WV this morning (9:20 Big Greasy Breakfast with Max In The Morning)?
Can't wait to see you all on Saturday-

Beer, wine and Bacardi coolers as well as limited food are all available inside the Pavilion, and therefore no outside alcohol is allowed in the venue (ABC rules). Re-entry is permitted (with a hand stamp), so the entire mall and your hotel room are within easy reach. Gonna be a great party!

OK, speaking of bloodies, will we have on-site purveyors of solid and (more importantly) liquid sustenance, or do I need to be sure I have an adequate supply either on my person or stowed away at the Omni? Will we have in/out privileges? I'm referring to the venue, not the guests.

Ahh Gayle, both erudite and aerodynamic.
I recall you telling me, once long ago, something similar about bringing outside booze in to the Shaft (Skip and Go's poured into Everclear bottles maybe...but you mentioned something about "are you fucking kidding me?" or some such king's english witticism
I'd be honored to grab a bottle of bloodies come Sunday. You do make the best.
